Log;

Crossing the living room of the now-familiar apartment Tzuzuki shared with friends, Fai looked out the window, a playful smile lingering on his lips. But he didn’t really feel like smiling--he felt like running out the back door and not looking back. Kuro-tan had seemed angry, for reasons Fai wasn't about to claim he understood. But he couldn't very well run away. Not only was it cowardly, but Kurorin would just chase him down and probably add to the various wounds lurking under bandages about his body.

"Ahh, scary face..." he murmured to himself, clasping his hands behind his back, waiting for the inevitable storm to arrive.

Kurogane arrived in front of the apartment building, the same as every other one, and looked up instinctively - knowing with a finely-tuned instinct that he was being watched by the blue eyed man he was here to see. And yell at.

It only took him a few moments to get up the stairs, more just to stretch his legs than being in any kind of hurry, he told himself. He definitely hadn't been worried or anything.

His fist came down on the wooden door heavily, enough to make it shake on it's hinges just a little. The smallest of smirks curled the corner of his lips, enough to show his slightly-sharper-than-normal canines. It was relief, and a slight desire to take out all his impotent frustration and worry productively.

Taking a short moment to steady himself, Fai crossed to the door and flung it open before the ninja could break the poor thing. Giving a cry of delight, he latched onto Kurorin's arm and tugged him into the room, his sunny cheer almost palatable in the air.

"Daddy~! How nice of you to visit! How are you? How are Sakura-chan and Syaoran-kun? Mokona must be missing me, ne?" Ignoring the glare and obvious tension about Kurogane's body, Fai bustled about with his usual smiles, moving to make some tea.

Kurogane allowed himself to be dragged along, even as he made his disagreement felt. He wasn't here to fall prey to Fai's aura of false cheerfulness once again - and he wasn't going to lie and pretend everything was alright. He could see the injuries on Fai's body with a warrior's practiced eye and knew - knew - that Fai would never purposefully get into a fight unless he fully intended to use it as an excuse to die.

Like in most things, Kurogane had no illusions when it came to this truth.

Fai busied himself with tea, the silence stretching out between them. Kurogane was dangerous in this mood--calm in his anger and not easily drawn off topic. Those red eyes demanded answers, but Fai would avoid giving in as long as possible. He had to.

"Here you are~" Handing him a cup of green tea, Fai smiled, drifting to the window. "Nice day today! I bet Sakura-chan and Syaoran-kun would like a picnic.. I wonder if we could do that one day? They deserve it, you know?"

The tea was no where near as good as Kurogane knew how to make, but he sipped at it a few times just for the sake of keeping his hands from wrapping around Fai's skinny frame and shaking him.

"They deserve to not have to wonder where you are and I deserve to not have to make up stupid lies so that they don't worry."

He knew he was being harsh. He had to be.

Fai winced, feeling the truth of the words strike him deep. In all his running, all his hiding, he had never realized how close he had become to his four fellow travelers. That day when they forgot him had been a shock, but he still was inconsiderate of their feelings. He wasn’t used to anything else.

"I know." It was hard to avoid the truth with Kurogane, and he often didn't want to. He had truly understood the weight of their travels, but how well did they understand each other?

Kurogane set down the tea on the table and stepped forward into Fai's personal space. He knew he loomed over the blond easily, and was using it to it's full effect.

"Weren't you the one who told me that only I would go off on my own to do something without telling anyone?" he growled, glaring down at Fai. "Idiot. What were you thinking?"

Fai pressed back against the window, conscious of Kurogane's anger with him far too close. He wasn't afraid of being hurt; that was a minor fear compared to how easily his walls crumbled when so confronted.

Looking away, he shook his head. "You all forgot me.. I thought it was.. better. that way.."

"It's not as though I did it on purpose," Kurogane interrupted, his voice growling low and dangerous. A hand fisted over Fai's shoulder, holding him in place as if afraid that he would just sink through the wall and disappear. "I wouldn't forget you."

Amazingly, he wasn't as angry with Fai as he was with the demonic Deities for forcing them into this corner - as if their relationship hadn't be precarious enough as it was.

"Maybe you should.." He shifted, wanting to pull away desperately. He could--Kurogane was strong, but Fai was a match for his skill. But to break free with such force would break something between them. "Then you wouldn't be so angry all the time..."

He tried a smile, shy beneath his bangs, wanting the conversation to end but slightly pleased, deep down.

"I wouldn't."

He was sure of it. So sure that it was painful in his chest when he said it, his eyes burning holes in Fai's walls. He could see that he was getting there, and just wanted to keep pushing on. Wanted that shy smile to break into something real.

And for that, he had to swallow some pride. But if it meant getting Fai to come back to their little apartment...

To think that a week ago he would have paid anything to be left alone for two minutes.

"I wouldn't be the same without you."

Fai blinked, eyes widening at the admission. It caught him off guard, catching the breath from his chest and holding him captive. He couldn't think of a reply, couldn't think of much, a light flush growing across his cheeks.

Struggling free of the spell finally, he laughed softly, hiding his blush behind his hands. "Kurorin, you're always so blunt.." But he couldn't keep from smiling. To hear that this friendship, formed out of necessity and something Fai was not entirely sure of, could be so powerful made him want to hope against hopes that he would be alright. If he could stay near, if they could stay together... maybe he could stop being afraid.

Watching Fai blush at his admission made Kurogane blush as well, even if it was just a slight darkening across his cheeks. No one would have been able to see it unless they had gone looking for it very carefully.

Coughing awkwardly, he relaxed his grip on Fai's shoulder, but let it rest there, a heavy reminding weight that he was still here.

"Well, it's up to you whether or not that means anything," he finished haphazardly, dark red eyes meeting Fai's icy blue ones. The urge to push forward into Fai's personal space even more to provoke some long-desired physical contact (whether violent or otherwise) was overwhelming, but he didn't act on it. It wasn't the moment for that. Fai had to make the first move.

"Up to me, mm?" Fai's smile turned playful, as he considered the words, hiding his nervousness at the implications. Part of him wanted to take a step further, closer, go out on a limb and risk it all.

But he couldn't, not yet. It was too terrifying, to raw. He wasn't ready to let him closer. Shaking his head slightly, he shrugged under Kurogane's heavy hand and blinked up at him expectantly. "Now, are you planning to stay here or shall we go back?"

Kurgane let out a long-suffering sigh and squeezed Fai's shoulder gently before letting his hand drop to his side. At least he had gotten his point across. It was the most frustrating thing in the world, but he knew when he had to bide his time and trying to pressure Fai into a resolution now would ruin everything.

"Yes. Let's go."

Turning his back on the figure in front of the window, he stomped over to the door and waited, looking back over his shoulder expectantly.

Giving the room a final glance (he'd have to thank Tsuzuki and the others later), he skipped up to meet Kurogane, linking arms with him. Grinning cheerfully, Fai let the matter drop, tucking it back in his mind somewhere to deal with again later. Very much later, if he could get away with it. Lifting big, clear eyes to Kurogane's face, he took a deep breath and, quite seriously, declared; "Mommy wants a piggie-back ride!"

"No."

It was an automatic reply as Kurogane started down the hall, but his shoulders were more relaxed than when he went in. He didn't jerk his arm out of the grip for fear of sending Fai the wrong message, but he twitched they apart just a little.

Somewhere along this mad journey he had become more comfortable with this silly teasing than with anything else, and he would do anything to protect it.
