RP Log: Seishirou, Ranmaru, and Subaru

When; 7 October, after this post.
Rating; PG-13.
Characters; Subaru ([livejournal.com profile] ikigainashi), Seishirou ([livejournal.com profile] sakurazuka_san), and Ranmaru ([livejournal.com profile] elegantorchid)
Summary; This dinner party ended with a whimper.
Log;

Once Subaru moved away from him, Seishirou knew he was going to follow. While Subaru was in such a good mood, no doubt aided by the daily curse, he decided he could take advantage of the situation to get what he wanted. After all, Subaru did have a promise to uphold, and he wasn't slow to forget certain things as this.

Under the pretence of helping to prepare tea, Seishirou walked in the kitchen, keeping right on Subaru's heels. "You do have sugar here, I hope?" he asked, opening a cabinet to peer in before shooting the other a questioning look. Not that he cared too much about it - he could take it or leave it. Especially when something sweeter was present.

"Yes, of course. Some of it had to be used in cooking, but there's a generous amount left." He set the kettle on the stove and turned the burner up to the appropriate temperature before he looked over to Seishirou. Hm, well if he was going to keep that promise, right now while they were alone in the kitchen was best.

He fidgeted and waited for Seishirou to turn completely around before he leaned up to give him a quick kiss on the lips, keeping it short and sweet. "Ah... Th-there... A kiss like your mother gave you?"

[identity profile] elegantorchid.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 08:33 am (UTC)(link)
Well, there was certainly a lot to clean up and run around bringing back and forth-- but as the swift runner he was titled, he managed to do it in full stride. Thanks to this curse, though, regardless of being more effective towards people, the desire to please had risen tenfold, therefore increasing his stamina to work.

He'd just finished picking up the dishes to set aside in a section of the kitchen, and hearing noises in the portion that was used for cooking, Ranmaru blinked, crossing the panel to see who it was.

At first, he didn't recognise who it was exactly-- there were two people, and the taller man was leaning over the other, but when they shifted-- he recognised them.

Oh, Seishirou-san and Subaru-san, bonding!, he thought, pleasantly affected by the curse-- when, somewhere outside, the clock hands struck midnight, and the young page felt a slight shift in his thoughts, and he paused, wondering what was going on, and then..

He froze.

[identity profile] ikigainashi.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 08:41 am (UTC)(link)
The sudden closeness was a little startling, but the kiss just made him go limp with surprise. He thought Seishirou had wanted a kiss like his mother gave him! Surely such a kind, lovely woman that Seishirou spoke so highly about wouldn't--

Click.

Subaru's eyes snapped open wide, and he gave a forceful shove against Seishirou's chest. "Your mother kissed you like that? Why am I not surprised? Get out!"

He couldn't believe this. The entire day he had been acting like a total idiot, as if nothing had ever happened. Trembling with rage, Subaru found himself swinging a fist before he could think any further.

[identity profile] ikigainashi.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 09:01 am (UTC)(link)
He flinched when he felt his hand twist, and before he could verbally protest again, he was pulled in for a kiss that he was positive would bruise his lips. With a soft groan, it almost seemed like he would give in for a moment, but then he remembered himself. No. Especially after what Seishirou had done... He WOULDN'T forgive him.

Subaru was certain he couldn't forgive this man twice.

Viciously, he bit down on Seishirou's lower lip and twisted around to try and backhand Seishirou with his free hand, so caught up in his anger that he didn't even realize someone was in the room with them.

"You aren't my guest! You knew I was under a curse! Leave or I'll beat you down again." Though really, he didn't want to use onmyoujutsu in here and wreck Ranmaru's things. If this was going to be a fight, it would probably be physical.

[identity profile] elegantorchid.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 09:12 am (UTC)(link)
Everything seemed to happen so quickly that Ranmaru wasn't sure what happened where and how. All he saw at that moment was not only Subaru being willingly embraced, but then-- anger, and rage. So much changed in a matter of seconds-- and then--

.. Holy Bishamonten..

The way that Seishirou treated Subaru, the way he was dominating him without a worry-- a complete transformation from the pleasant person that he was prior. Somehow Ranmaru had the feeling that that in it's own was a ruse, and his eyes narrowed.

But.. he had never seen Subaru this angry before, and that in itself troubled him. A determined look entering his eyes, the boy had moved. As quick as a flash, between Subaru and Seishirou, his hand shooting forward to grab the raised hand for the slap. He didn't want Subaru to lose control now, and he turned to face Seishirou directly.

"Enough of this!" he exclaimed in an angry tone, silver eyes focusing strongly on Seishirou. "What is the meaning of this behavior? And how dare you touch Subaru-san without his consent?"

[identity profile] ikigainashi.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 09:41 am (UTC)(link)
It all happened so quick that he didn't even know quite what had happened. When had Ranmaru entered the room? And why was he stopping him? He wanted to hit him! Especially knowing Ranmaru had seen this... Why did he have to constantly be caught in these embarrassing situations?

And then suddenly he was being yanked away, and he felt his arm twisted back too quickly for him to resist. Unfortunately, it was the arm that was connected to his shoulder, still injured from their previous fight, and he could do nothing more than watch as his glove was pulled off.

Seishirou's lips against the scars made his throat tighten and his fingers twitch.... But then he relaxed. The shock on Ranmaru's face was what cemented the shame in his eyes, and the young onmyouji bit his lip and hung his head, unable to meet Ranmaru's gaze.

True... Why did it have to be true...?

[identity profile] elegantorchid.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
Ranmaru felt his heart beat a lot more heavier than it normally did, which was something on it's own considering he was dead now. But the way Seishirou moved Subaru, the way he was mishandling him, the way it appeared as if there was certainly something more vicious and cruel in the form of a bond between the other two..

For the briefest of brief moments, Ranmaru caught that same strange scent he had before. The scent of cherry blossoms, and for some reason his mind went to the symbolism behind the blossoms themselves.

A true warrior's life is to be as beautiful and blossoming as the single day of bloom of a sakura.

And as his eyes fell apon the five-point star that he was familiar with as a mode of witchcraft from his time, and connecting that with Subaru's occupation of onmyoujitsu, something clicked in the boy's head that he wasn't certain why he recalled.

A prey.

It stemmed from hunting, but Ranmaru knew that to kill demons or someone who was to be assasinated in a way that they wouldn't be discovered, they would be 'branded'. So the assassins and onmyoujin would find them.. but those were.. stories, weren't they?

Then why was it looking to be so disgustingly true..??

The boy felt his fists clench to his sides and he grit his teeth, turning his head to icily glare at the man behind Subaru.

"That is of no concern to me!" that was Subaru-san's business. "I don't know what influence you hold over Subaru-san from your past but as a human and as what I see now, you are mishandling my friend and I will not forgive that."

He wasn't armed, but he wasn't frightened. Ranmaru had no fear of any sort; such a thing was alien to him.

"Let. Him. GO."

[identity profile] ikigainashi.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 10:20 am (UTC)(link)
Subaru felt his throat clench again, and it was suddenly incredibly hard to breathe. He choked on any words that he could have possibly come up with in response to that, and instead just stepped forward numbly as he was released. Then Seishirou spoke again and Subaru felt cold. Had the temperature just dropped?

He was gone. Where had he gone? Had he left? He wasn't supposed to leave... Seishirou never did what Subaru wanted. But maybe that was the catch. Subaru hadn't wanted it. Only...he had, correct? Especially with Ranmaru here, watching as Subaru's sturdy walls of pride and protection fell down one by one.

Still looking rather numb, his head lowered to find that he was stepping on his glove. With a sharp intake of breath, he stepped back and knelt.

[identity profile] elegantorchid.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Ranmaru felt a chill when the other man spoke, the implications of his words running so deeply that Ranmaru knew he couldn't be just meaning them at face value. That Seishirou-san had such a dark aura around him, that Ranmaru was suddenly, very close to feeling the fear he never thought he would. His breath stilled, but his gaze never went off Seishirou's.

It was only when he left that Ranmaru realised he hadn't breathed, and exhaled, shaking his head and immediately stepped forward as Subaru knelt, to slip his fingers under the glove and hold it for a while. Not denying Subaru it's hold, but wanting to understand what it's significance was. Then, he reached forward and took Subaru's hand in his.. and looked closely at the back of his palm.

He took note of the fresh wounds, then sighed, not meeting Subaru's gaze for the while, observing the pentacle, before silently stretching the opening of the glove with his fingers, so Subaru could slip his hand through and wear it.

It was only until after Subaru had worn it, that Ranmaru slowly stood, taking Subaru's hand in both of his, and helping the other up. All that he had seen and heard.. much of it didn't make sense and he could suspect.

He didn't want to make assumptions.

"Are you his prey?" he then asked directly, drawing from the knowledge he had. He didn't raise his gaze though, and his hand remained gentle and on top of Subaru's.

"Ranmaru is sorry for not doing as much as Ranmaru shouldv'e." he continued. Finally, he met his gaze, his breath slightly shivering. ".. Who is he really..? Why is he doing this to you?" he whispered, concern and worry lining his eyes.

[identity profile] ikigainashi.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 11:13 am (UTC)(link)
Subaru watched with a confused gaze as Ranmaru held his glove, and something shimmered in his eyes as he helped slip it back on. Then, he let himself slowly stand with Ranmaru's assistance, his gaze remaining averted for the time being.

"...I was raised to be the 13th head of the Sumeragi clan. My given name is Sumeragi Subaru. He was the head of the Sakurazuka clan... Our clans have always been rivals. I don't know if you were aware of them where you're from, but...as master Onmyouji clans, we followed different paths, but it always balanced, just like yin and yang should."

He pulled his hand free and stepped back to lean against the counter. He couldn't believe he was going to explain all of this...but Ranmaru was somebody he trusted. Just as much as Kamui, by this point.

"We assumed at first that the Sakurazukamori was a group of people in their clan, using offensive onmyoujutsu to kill for the government. However, the Sakurazukamori was really only one person, and whoever killed them became the next one. I was nine when I first met him. I was going to exorcise a tree...I felt a dark force from it...and saw him there, with a dead girl in his arms. He should have killed me, but instead he marked these hands of mine, and made a bet with me, then forced me to forget. My grandmother recognized the marks, and after that she made me wear gloves that were warded with her own protection spell so that nobody else but me could remove them."

He gazed sadly towards some dishes in the sink. "I met him again seven years later... Sakurazuka Seishirou... He was a wonderful man. Charismatic. A veterinarian. I loved animals, you see. He was very doting, and always got me so flustered. My twin sister, Hokuto-chan, was so intent on pairing us up. The three of us were constantly together...for a full year, it was wonderful. He even...lost his sight in one eye for me...during an incident where I tried to sacrifice myself for someone. That was when I realized that he was my most important person."

"And that was when he destroyed everything. My heart felt like it had been shattered as he made me remember, and I was so broken I couldn't...fight back. My grandmother managed to save me from being killed, but as a result she lost the ability to walk." His hand clenched tightly against the counter.

"If...in that period of a full year...I had somehow been able to make Seishirou-san feel strongly for me, then he wouldn't have attempted to kill me. That was the bet. My life was the wager. I... I was weak, and let the pain consume me. I don't recall exactly how long I was catatonic, but during that time my sister, she...went to meet Seishirou in my place. He killed her there, at the Sakura Grove, where the Sakurazukamori's victims are absorbed."

[identity profile] elegantorchid.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 11:24 am (UTC)(link)
Ranmaru drew back when Subaru moved, believeing this to be one of those times where words were better off not spoken. After having known Subaru for the short amount of time that he had, to have him express this.. it was overwhelming, but not unwelcome. While he had not heard the name of Sakurazukamori or Sumeragi in his own world, but the traditions and the concept of yin-yang were exactly the same for onmyoujutsu.

Which is why he understood most of what was being said.

And as the story went on, Ranmaru found a small ache develop in his chest and he had to inhale and exhale to make sure he was still breathing. Subaru-san had gone through so much.. he was right. From every word he spoke, Ranmaru visualised how things may have been for him. He had been right in thinking Subaru had had an innocence lost, that he had beeen deprived of joy by having it stolen away.

... How alike we are.

As Subaru's words came to a halt for that brief while, Ranmaru, having listened obediently, took a moment to let the words settle, then walked in front of him, but didn't face him. He was listening, but out of respect, would not face him once he was done.. and when the silence settled in, he asked the question that had been lingering since Subaru began to speak.

"If he is.. was the Sakurazukamori, and you are a Sumeragi.. then.." he turned to look Subaru in the eye. "Why do you call yourself the Sakurazuka now?"

And another thing he had noticed. "Why is it that you have different-colored eyes, when he has both? Right now.. while we were cursed.. he was almost as the charismatic man you spoke of, before he turned on you."

Most important person..

Ranmaru's gaze softened. "You loved him.. with all your heart, didn't you..?" no wonder the anger and betrayal was so strong. It didn't stop hurting Ranmaru a little though he wasn't expecting anything else. If anything, he wasn't surprised either..

They often did love the ones who'd harm them the most..

[identity profile] ikigainashi.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 11:44 am (UTC)(link)
Subaru flinched a bit, but nodded. With all of his heart...yes... So hard to believe he could still feel so much pain after that. But he had, time and time again.

Ranmaru's questions were valid, and they would be answered...

"My sister's death pulled me out of my coma, and I dropped out of school, swearing I would kill Sakurazuka Seishirou to avenge her...and my heart. It was hard to locate him...but our destinies were intertwined, after all. The Promised Day, our Apocolypse, was destined to happen in 1999. Two sides were chosen... One side, the Chi no Ryuu, also known as the Seven Angels, were meant to fight for the earth. The other side, the Ten no Ryuu, or Seven Seals, were to fight for the people. Both sides had their Kamui. Both of them are here."

He reached up to clutch at his chest. His heart...it hurt to go back over this. "I was a Seal, and Seishirou-san was an Angel. It gave me the perfect chance to fight him...but I also had other things to fight for. Kamui of the Seals became my friend before I could stop it, and in defending him, I lost my right eye." His smile was bitter. "The same eye as Seishirou-san's...it was what I wanted... The Angel's Kamui knew that, for he could see Wishes. Once my eye healed so that I could battle again, I decided to fight Seishirou-san for the last time."

"On Rainbow Bridge, we fought. But...as she died, my sister cast a spell. When Seishirou tried to strike a killing blow, it backlashed." Subaru squeezed his eyes shut. "The next thing I knew, my hand was coated in blood, and my arm was through his chest. He had known, and he still...but... He had been foolish in thinking that my true Wish was to kill him, but that had changed. I had been hoping, praying that he would kill me."

Subaru's lips trembled as he tried to regain his composure. In fact, a detached, cold air seemed to fall around him as he opened his eyes to stare straight at Ranmaru. "After he died, Kamui saved me from a death I wanted. But when the Angel's Kamui approached me with Seishirou-san's remaining eye that he had recovered, he made me realize Seishirou-san's Wish, and I decided to wear gloves again after that. This eye is his. I abandoned my clan and took on his name. I am the Sakurazukamori, and though I very much don't agree with my new Kamui's way of handling things, I am a Chi no Ryuu. My role now is to help bring destruction to mankind and save the earth, so until the Promised Day, being the Sakurazukamori is also my new role."

[identity profile] elegantorchid.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 12:14 pm (UTC)(link)
He could see that it was hurting Subaru to speak of this, just as much as it hurt him to see that Subaru was in pain. It was like being under the curses of this city; first bring them joy, then days later bringing so much pain that all of that joy turns to nothing..

And it would hurt more, on experiencing happiness. From his words, Subaru was clearly expressing something he'd held back, and while Ranmaru felt honored that the words were shared with him.. he couldn't help but regret that he'd asked, if it was hurting Subaru so much.

It would be impossible to believe that you could be free of this when it makes up so much of who you are..

The words about him joining the Chi no Ryu and becoming the Sakurazuka now began to make sense. Somehow, Ranmaru found it ironic, that he became a Lord only after the death of his own-- the same way, Subaru had inherited the Sakurazuka title after killing yet another he'd loved.

However, when Subaru was done, Ranmaru moved forward until he was standing right in front of Subaru. Then, he raised his hands, to hold the side of the other's face and make him look at him, his own eyes devoid of any emotion-- yet if one looked deeply enough, they'd see the boy was sympathising.. and more than that, was sorrowful.

"So that is it.." he whispered. "Subaru-san, you have been through much." he wasn't one to judge, one's role in their world was their role. He had no right to question it.

"But please do not forget that you are not there, on earth. Don't punish yourself for a role on earth that needn't be your role here." he wasn't telling him not to be, but merely stating a point.

Finally, he raised his gaze again, needing to be close to the other, to offer him his presence, even as he lowered his hands to his shoulders.

".. why does he have both eyes now? They didn't look damaged.." he asked hen, wondering why he was so inquisitive, but unable to help it. As he looked up into Subaru's mismatched gaze, he kept it set-- before glancing down.

"The way he treats you.. even now.. It is a mad love, of domination and power. I don't see any gentleness in him at all.. yet.." he turned to look back at Subaru. "To want to be the one to die at your hands.. one has to wonder."

[identity profile] ikigainashi.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 12:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The Sakurazukamori's gaze softened as Ranmaru moved closer, and though his natural instincts told him to back away, the counter really was halting that act. So he just stayed still, submitted to the younger man's touch, and soon he sighed, one gloved hand lifting to settle over one other resting on his shoulder.

"This Seishirou-san....is not my Seishirou-san. The City has a perverse humor and brought him here from my past...from the middle of our bet. He hasn't yet lost sight in his eye. Truly, even know how I am now, and what I've turned into, it doesn't seem to daunt him. But I suppose that is the fate of a Sakurazukamori...to not fear death."

He squeezed Ranmaru's hand and looked down. "I did love Seishirou-san...and as he died, he whispered in my ear...that he loved me, but... I know it isn't a normal love. Maybe it's not love at all. Just obsession. The desire to love, and failing at it. And this man, where he is at in this point in his life... I know he isn't the same."

...He was really craving a cigarette, but he wasn't going to just walk outside to smoke during a conversation like this. "He's not the same Seishirou-san that met with me on Rainbow Bridge. This man is different. Younger, weaker, and...not mine. He's who I wanted nine years ago. I forgot that detail when I saw him again here...and I let myself get swept up in my guilt over killing him, and my desire to enjoy time with him and my sister. But after he took advantage of Kamui like he did, my eyes are opened again. Seishirou-san is...never someone that I can have. Not in my world...and not here. I can really only have him within me...within this eye, and that is the only purpose for which I continue to live."

[identity profile] elegantorchid.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 12:47 pm (UTC)(link)
"Does it have to be?"

Ranmaru let his words cut in right at the end, his silver gaze now filling with the emotion he'd held back for so long. After hearing all of that, strangely.. he not only felt sorry for Subaru, but he felt sorry for Seishirou. He had everything, he had had the love of someone as amazing as Subaru, and he'd destroyed it with his own hands. If only he'd stopped to think; to not follow through with a pointless bet as he had, perhaps things may have been different..

Perhaps Subaru-san would have been truly happy, and him as well. Then they may have never met.

That thought troubled Ranmaru, and he felt a tinge of selfishness as he turned his hand in Subaru's hold, so he could hold it in return, and draw the hand towards him.

"We never stop loving who we have once loved, Subaru-san. Somewhere, somehow.. I think he does love you. But such a macabre love will only destroy you both at the end.."

He felt his own breath shivering and he moved an arm around Subaru's waist, and rest his cheek near his, just wishing to embrace the other now. He let his head drop so he was whispering past his ear.

"But why.. do you need to continue to destroy yourself, when you have a present.. now.. to live..?"

He closed his eyes, still holding Subaru close, feeling the other's warmth.

".. Don't you.. want to be happy, Subaru-san..? Forget deserving it.. but.. " he drew back, now gazing into the other's eyes, their closeness as intense as the previous night.

"Is it so wrong.. for Ranmaru to want to give you that? So you wont suffer, even if just for a little while?"

[identity profile] ikigainashi.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 12:54 pm (UTC)(link)
His heart swelled with Ranmaru's words, and though it was a warm feeling, it was also painful. The closeness brought back memories for him, though these were nothing like the usual memories that haunted him. Images of flesh slick with sweat, the touch of practiced fingers, the scent of the other's essence...

Warm, enthralling memories...that made him feel bizarrely alive. Special. Damned.

With a shudder, Subaru shut his eyes, letting his forehead lightly bump against Ranmaru's as he took a shaky breath. "I wouldn't be human if I didn't want it...but I don't think I could bear losing it again."

[identity profile] elegantorchid.livejournal.com 2006-10-08 02:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Ranmaru felt a small tingle of warmth, wondering if he'd hit home somwhere with his words, though he couldn't really say entirely. However, he knew that Subaru would never say such words, if he didn't mean them.. and the fact that he was saying them made him feel warm inside.

Instinctively, his hand went to touch the side of Subaru's cheek, while the other, reached down to take Subaru's gloved hand, and hold it between them.

"Tell Ranmaru where you have found your happiness and Ranmaru will fight body and soul to protect it, Subaru-san.." he whispered.

Raising Subaru's hand, even though it was gloved, Ranmaru touched the back of his fingers with his lips, sliding his hand down to his wrist and brushing his fingers there.

"But let the past be.. so long as you believe in it's strength.. it will rule over you, always.."

His hand on Subaru's cheek trailed down to his jawline, gently caressing it.

"You're allowed to be happy.. always." and he had been. He'd smiled at him, he'd held him.. he'd done that out of happiness..

And for the briefest moment, letting his gaze flicker up to meet Subaru's, Ranmaru intertwined their fingers again.. and just let himself go, allowing himself the liberty of touching his lips to Subaru's in a far contrast to the harshness he saw from Seishirou just now.

"No one.. has the right to take that away. No one.." were the last words he breathed, before fully kissing him yet again..
