Log;

Wow, this place really _could_ be fun.

Shortly after her little call for help, Kairi found herself being practically dragged out of her room by Sora and Riku. Something about being out and about helping her cope with the incessant ticking. They were right. Even though she could still hear it, the hustle and bustle made for good distraction.

She glanced around more, eyes flickering back and forth at all the whirly lights. It somehow encompassed beauty and eeriness all in one - Kairi found herself in awe and in despair (though the latter was easy to ignore with the present company). She also found herself craving sugary substances, causing her to scoot over to Sora and poke his side.

"Psst...wanna get some cotton candy with me?"

"Ah!" Sora jumped a little as Kairi poked his side, being more than a little ticklish. "Don't do that, Kairi!" It didn't help that she knew all the right spots to attack.

He and Riku had been more than a little worried at her last post, fearing for her health, and had decided to take her to the circus as a distraction. The incessant ticking was muffled here, a simple itch at the corners of their conciousness.

At her suggestion to grab some snacks he nodded with enthusiasm. "Sure! I heard they have great cotton candy." Standing up he stretched, flashing the tan skin of his stomach for a moment before he held out his hand to help Kairi up.

Kairi found herself glancing at Sora's stomach while he stretched, but quickly looked elsewhere while clearing her throat. She recomposed herself with a tiny giggle and took his hand into hers before standing up and immediately heading for a cotton candy stand. Once standing in front of the vendor, she grinned widely at him, let go of Sora, and rested her hands on the counter top.

"I'll have one bubblegum-flavored, medium-sized," she chirped before looking over at her friend to cue his turn to order.

When Kairi took his hand, her fragile fingers weaving into his own, a bright flush of warmth stained Sora's cheeks. The worry he had felt over her distress had put the journal post about her feelings out of his mind. He'd seen it when they picked her up, an innocent glance at her computer screen revealing secrets he was perhaps better off not knowing.

But now, with the both of them alone... Sora felt something uncomfortable twist in his chest. It was in a sort of daze that he followed her to the cotton candy stand. It couldn't be what he was thinking, right? She had just mentioned a fluttering... that didn't mean anything! He was thinking too much into it and-

"Huh?" With a startled expression on his face, Sora glanced up, only to see Kairi expectantly waiting for him to order. "Blue... BLUEBERRY PLEASE." Realizing his voice had just been a -little- too loud, he clamped both hands over his mouth.

Kairi blinked a couple of times before giggling softly, "A little too much sugar, Sora?" She looked back at the inside of the cotton-candy stand, gently tucking her hair behind her ear. "Come to think of it, maybe getting more candy's a bad idea for you."

The vendor handed her the mesh of cloudy sugary goodness before turning around to spin up Sora's order. Kairi ripped a small piece off it, fake-chewing as it melted into her tongue instantly and humming to herself in thought. Part of her was glad she made that journal entry calling out to the boys, while the other part was kicking her for calling out at all. She was a big girl now, she should be able to handle things.

Or...was it an excuse to see Sora? Man, being a teenaged girl really sucks sometimes.

She subtly puffed out her cheeks, frustrated with herself, as she took another bite.

"I haven't even had any sugar today!" Sora protested, taking his cotton candy and turning back to her. This was comfortable, the quick banter, the answering smiles shared between friends. This was what he was used to. The distance of worlds and time between them had never changed that. But now that they were together, now that they've gone and grown up...

It really was too complicated. All that mattered was that he was happy around her, right? Yeah...

"Geez. Take a breather before swallowing the whole thing up, Kairi." Taking a piece of the soft, blue confection, he dabbed it on the tip her nose, chuckling under his breath in amusement. "Think we should grab one for Riku?"

Ah, there it was. The complication.

Sora, Riku, Kairi; the three of them had always been united, their friendship a stable balance Sora had come to rely on. Stepping closer towards any of them would tip the scale.

"Hey!" she laughed, wrinkling her nose a few times before reaching up to wipe the cottony sugar off. She then tapped her chin in thought, looking at the variety of flavors available before nodding in conclusion, "Yea, I think he'd go for the grape-flavored one."

Kairi then glanced over at the boy-in-question, suddenly wondering--very SECRETLY wondering--why it was she found herself attracted to Sora. Not that there was anything particularly wrong with Sora. But...Riku was...he really did grow up. And was taller. And more toned. And...well...belonged on the cover of a teen magazine.

Maybe that was it. Riku was too pretty. Sora was more...well, less heavenly in his looks. A simplistic cute - maybe even hot.

Maybe she should stop thinking about all this.

"Yea...grape-flavored!"

"Grape?" Sora began to chew on his bottom lip, a slight furrow settling on his brow, before finally nodding his head agreement. "There isn't any mint so... yeah! That would do!"

At the exchange of coins the machine once again whirred to life with a quiet hum, strings of sugar weaving together with each twist of the man's wrist. Just like what had happened to them, snapped up from their worlds, forced to mold with strangers in a strange city.

Was it strange that he didn't really mind? The ones he loved were here after all. As Kairi had said, that meant there were home.

It shouldn't feel so right. It shouldn't be so easy.

Turning around with a cotton candy in each hand, Sora paused. There was an unfamiliar weight in Kairi's gaze, a subtle spark in the sapphire orbs that peered from beneath the quiet fan of lashes. All at once the blush returned. "WHAT?"

Ah. He shouted again... this was SO embarrasing.
