Log;
So much had happened in the past three days, that Keico couldn't even begin to wrap her head around it all.
....But that didn't mean she wasn't stupid enough to try to go against her new orders, and her new...employer.
So here she was, tracking a single looney in this asylum.
Teacher had told her he wasn't far away, and that this guy, Vincent, was important to the boss' plans...and that if she screwed this up, it would be on both of thier heads.
If that wasn't incentive enough, the boss himself had 'spoken' to her, and made mention of 'rewards for good service'.
Dealing with the supernatural was definitely not her usual day-to-day, but since coming to The City, it had become nearly normal..
The Boss, however, was anything but normal...and his touch-.........well, lets just say she would be all too happy to walk through a field of broken glass for a single caress.
Since this Vincent guy wasn't trying very hard to cover his tracks, she was having no trouble finding him, and all too soon she could see him wandering around, singing to himself.
She was about to call out, and ask him to make sure she had the right guy, when a strange warming sensation at the base of her spine ( just under where her tattoo ended) pulsed.
Yup, thats the guy.
She thought to herself, and immeadiately decided it was better not to think too hard on exactly how she knew.
She just did.
-
Vincent was a bit loopy, yeh, but then who wouldn't be?
the faithless priest gets him some religion.
It would be safe to say the City was taking his sanity in leaps and bounds, but he was yet to realize what had been taken in the delirious light of what had been added....
he hadn't noticed her yet. he was singing some sort of wacky praises to the sky, the grass, the various people he was passing on the street, who were doing their best to avoid him like the plague...for all they knew he had it, anyway...
-
She sighed in mild exasperation.
No wonder the boss wanted a gaurd on this guy...he was going to piss something off with a quickness acting that way.
She approached him as though a singing nutjob was the most normal thing in the world, and reached out ( and up, since he had a few inches on her five feet three inches) and tapped him on the shoulder.
"Come on, Vince, lets get you inside..."
-
"Vince?" having the misfortune of having a first name only, Vincent was not fond of shortened nicnames.
it was enough to sober him up. or piss him off, anyway. "don't ever call me that!" he grumbled, as ever all exaggerated hand gestures and antsiness, "you don't even know me well enough!"
-
She scowled at him...not the best of ways to start things off.
" Oh for-....Fine, Vincent, would you please come with me?"
She asked with sarcasm fairly dripping from her tone.
She was irritable already with the lack of sleep, and no food for two days, and was in no mood to deal with him if he was going to be difficult.
She could always knock him out, and drag him back to the cathedral....so long as she didn't do any permanent damage, what was the harm?
-
"But...it's a beautiful night..." Vincent said, indicating, well, everything. "I thought I'd go for a swim in that fountain."
-
Keico had to resist facepalming a bit.
Well, if he wouldn't come quietly even after she asked nicely, it was time to take dratsic measures.
Abandoning trying to talk him down, she stepped up and behind him, took his wrist in one hand, then put her three-fingered right hand just under the shoulder blade, and twisted the arm back.
Now , with just a little bit more pressure she could easily break his arm, it was doubtful this didn't hurt quite a bit on it's own, but she hoped he would back down & come along quietly without calling her bluff.
" Alright, pal. You can either come with me, right now, or I break your fucking arm, and drag you back at gunpoint."
She added a little pressure. Not enough to break it, but enough to emphasize her point.
" What's it going to be, Vince?"
-
And Vincent?
giggled.
With his one free hand he adjusted his glasses which, in the tussle were sliding down his nose.
"Oh! how forceful you are!" he exclaimed, "I'm always up for a bit of S&M..."
-
Oh that did it.
She removed the hand from his shoulder, reached back and pulled the bowie knife from under her waistband's sheath, and brought it around slowly enough that he got a good long look at it before bringing it to his throat.
"How's this for forceful, fucker?"
She increased the pressure of the blade, and forced him to either tip his head back or get cut.
" You do know nothing stays dead here? I could just slit your throat and carry you back to let you heal up nice and painfully when you came to again."
And yes, she was dead serious.
The Boss was big on discipline, right? ...Surely he'd understand...
-
(Un?)fortunately, Vincent was a creature of spontaneity, at times bigger in the balls department than the brains.
He HAD to have the last word in all things; this was what had gotten him stabbed in the showdown with Claudia, after all.
He was scared, but he was not about to show it.
After all, she had been sent by HIM, hadn't she?
And he had said for Vincent to show faith.
"You like to be in charge in a situation, don't you my child," he said carefully, "tell me, is this a latent idiosyncracy extending from some kind of childhood trauma, perhaps? maybe not enough nurturing, or...?"
this was either going to get him stabbed or back her off, and there was no other way to find out than to find out.
-
It took everything in her not to slit him from ear to ear right then and there....but that was probably not what the boss had in mind when he said 'Keep him safe, and undamaged'.
Why can't things ever go smooth?
She did however raise the blade until it was perilously close to the glass in front if his eye, then viper quick sliced across his cheek.
No it wasn't deep, yes it probably accomplished nothing...Yes it was very petty.
" I like it because it's usually where Iam...Besides, you want me to have to go back to Him and tell him it was either gut you or leave you where you were because you ignored me?"
She hated having to threaten, essentially, telling on him so soon in this conversation...but she really was getting down to her last nerve, and it was highly doubtful this guy was going to just listen.
-
Vincent snickered, an unpleasant sound. "Not your goods to be damaging, darling." he took the moment to try to disengage himself from her; hopefully since she was so plainly bluffing she'd have dropped her guard with the realization that she'd lost her cool.
It was in poor form, after all, to let someone anger you to action.
A face wound always looks more serious than it is, but Vincent wasn't overly afraid of blood. he grinned, nastily. "some of the best conversations," he said, "are conducted by those who know how to say 'please.' now. let's start this again, shall we?"
-
Well...at least he sounded more reasonable?
" I did say please, you-..." she cut herself off part way through. He was baiting her, and it was working way too well.
With the Pyramid Head's darkness came a greater tendency to give in to the killing rage...and she couldn't afford to do that right now.
In exasperation, and knowing he knew she wasn't going to kill him, she let go witha shove.
" Fine, fine. I'm Keico, and I'm supposed to keep you alive...." She snapped.
-
He smiled. brushed his clothes off as though she'd sullied them, readjusted his specs and wiped some of the blood from his face, bringing his bloodied fingers to his mouth and licking them.
"The name's Vincent, don't forget it, alright?" he said, "Keep me alive, eh? And what excatly is trying to make me dead that I suddenly need such protection? Surely Xuchilbara's given me everything I need..."
It wasn't that Vincent had anything against her- well, except that she was a she, and he had little respect for the authority of females- but he was not fond of the idea of having to go through an intercessor. Having met the god, he expected more of the god's attentions, and expected these desires to be met, with all a child's greed and demand.
To be born again, after all, meant one had to learn all over as well...
-
She couldn't help laughing; a short mirthless sound.
" Wow, you are new." she commented and shook her head.
Ordinarily she would simply display her three-fingered hand, or the massive scar that bisected her torso from sternum to navel...but these days the thing that made it was the very same thing she would much prefer to spend more time with. ( Not that she would ever admit such a thing, even to herself...)
" There's too much to list, and with your brand of asshattery, you wouldn't last a week.
You'd be wandering around preaching, and end up irritating something, and then end up in little pieces."
She smiled a knowing smile, and this time, did use her three fingered hand to pull aside the collar of her t-shirt to show the begginings of the long scar.
" As long as you're in bits, you stay dead, but when you get put back together your stuck here for the duration."
The smile vanished.
" Why don't you just ask Xulchibara how happy he would be to find out you can't leave?"
-
Ok. so there WAS a lot he didn't know.
"What do you mean?" he asked.
Well, at least the pretention was gone, and he was listening.
So far, so good.
-
"What do I mean? I thought I made that pretty clear?
You have seen the angels? The demons? Or how about any one of hundreds of homicidal nutjobs and megalomaniacs that are crawling all through this place?"
She looked him over with a dubious expression.
" I got you with a human submission hold in under a minute. Imagine trying to stand up to a demon that could kill you before you even felt the first wound."
-
"It's true I'm not much of a fighter.." Vincent admitted. "There are demons here who would want to kill me? why would they want to do that?"
Well, he WAS new here.
-
"There are demons here who would want to kill me?" she repeated mocking him with a mincing voice, and a dumb cow expression.
Dropping the act, she had to resist slapping him upside the head.
" Uhh, YA THINK!? You're not a threat whatsoever, and so that makes you prey in most things' eyes."
She sheathed the bowie knife while talking, figuring she wouldn't be needing it in the next few minutes.
"You can't just blunder around this place bringing religion to the heathens", she continued, " and from what I can tell, your not supposed to. You're supposed to be recording what's coming, what's happened...that kinda thing."
True this was mostly opinion and inference from what little interaction she'd had with Xulchibara directly, but Teacher was more than happy to explain things.
-
"But...there are heathen gods." Vincent said, obviously disliking the idea, "They cause curses to happen to people! It's so obvious what our purpose is here..." For someone who had once not wanted paradise to occur he was certainly gung ho for it now.
-
" Ya, they do. Stop and think about that a minute?"
She said starting to feel exasperated again.
" This is Thier place, thier turf. You and I aren't here to set the things here on the right path, we're supposed to be laying low..getting ready."
This guy really wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, was he?
" I'm pretty sure Townshend was here first, then came Teach- I mean Pyramid Head."
She winced at voicing her internal name for her mentor...She didn't like Vincent much..no need to give him ammunition.
" After him, Alessa got here. As much as I love him", -That felt strange to say...-"Xulchibara is new...He didn't make this place, and he isn't the one who is in charge of the city at large....He's got better things to do than watch the countdown." She finished in partial defense of the god.
-
"That's no reason we can't take this city, surely." The big problem with giving people religion, of course, was the tendency to want to share it.
And Vincent ~was~ a priest, after all... "HE can pave the way."
-
This time she did facepalm.
Then, took a deep breath, and pushed her hair back from her face.
" Alright, fine....You take your world domination plans to Xulchibara yourself, then."
Settling her hands on her hips in a classic 'irritated' pose, she looked at him wearily.
" But, to do that you have to go to the cathedral...so can we please go back, now?
-
"Sure. I like the cathedral.' Vincent shrugged, and went without a fuss. "Alessa is there. but I haven't seen her yet.
I met a man named Henry Townshend- do you know him?"
-
" Ya...I know who he is..." she said very wearily and fell into step beside him.
