Rating; PG
Characters; Rangiku and Tsuzuki
Summary; Rangiku goes to help a friend in need.
Log;

As soon as Haineko faded away into a wisp of gray ash, Rangiku tied her robes closed and started for the door, leaving behind the pink scarf she habitually wore draped around her shoulders. Tsuzuki's journal entry had her worried, and a worried Rangiku was a stubborn one.

The night air was cool in her still damp hair as she shunpyo'd to building 18. She could feel that Haineko was already there with Tsuzuki, and she could feel the restless pacing her soulpartner was doing.

He wishes to leave.

Gritting her teeth, she sped up as much as she could, moving at something close to her combat speed.

Do not allow him to go, love. He needs to stay put.

Silent assent from Haineko calmed her a little, but not enough to slow her in her haste. Finally, in front of the door she knew Tsuzuki lived behind, she paused and took a breath, then opened the door and slipped into the apartment, eyes seeking out first the gray cat, then Tsuzuki.

"Glad you're still here, Tsu... "

He’d curled up on the couch at the farthest corner, almost as if protecting himself. It didn’t matter that the tears refused to stop falling down his face or that the muscles in his body were starting to cramp up from the odd angle at which he lay. Tsuzuki just couldn’t feel much of anything except the sting and pleasure of his memories, which hurt far worse than all the physical strain he’d ever endured as a shinigami.

And he didn’t even bother moving when he felt a familiar presence there, the initial urge to run having been pushed away by Haineko. Buried deep. Besides, what was the point of trying to escape when he was worrying his friends, drawing them from other important things to come check on him?

Perhaps it was the only reason he stayed. But he barely acknowledge Rangiku as she spoke, the sound of the apartment door shutting echoing rather loudly in his head.

“I…didn’t have any choice,” he whimpered softly, no malice in his words whatsoever. Only apathy.
