Summary; Brand spankin' new eyes for Vincent, courtesy the dark ruinous powers, and a very disturbed healer.
Log;
She had been awake for a while, glancing at the message left on the network by the man who called himself that strange name she couldn't read, so she opted to call him 'Sir' when they did meet face to face. However, she was already very hesitant about it. Passing out in café Juliet was one thing, but the strange foreboding she felt from the other's mere words was.. not something she was sure she wanted to be around
Glancing up at the time, remembering he'd mentioned that in three days he'd send a 'sentinel' to recieve her, she seated down in her living room couch, finishing her note to her lover to tell him where she was goingand merely waited, sighing and running a hand through her hair. Losing your eyes.. that sounds like that poor Mr. Sands. At least whoever this is as the sense to WANT to heal..
Scarab was highly preoccupied with recent events...and perhaps this accounted for her more formal attitude when speaking toher Lord, or to Henry.
It all seemed so very wrong...but then she was sent out to do things like pick up this healer to bring back and give Vincent new eyes?
The odd juxtaposition of wonderfully right, and horribly wrong confused her.
She was further confused as to why all the secrecy? With public opinion of her Lord plummeting, she had thought that making it known Xulchilbara was going to such extreme lengths to return Vincent's sight would make people realize that he only did what he did out of Justice!
..She had questioned why she couldn't at least tell Vincent what was being planned, but he had only smiled, though said smile never reached his eyes.
Scarab sighed with feeling, and tried to put all of thses things from her mind as she approached the witch's door.
Her formal wear ( mask, sheer-ankle-length train of fabric over sturdy, leather-tooled bodysuit, and sword) was strange to wear around the city...but she understood the need for first impressions.
She knocked swiftly, then stepped back to wait.
----
Vincent was doing nothing to hide the fact he was abjectly miserable. With all the goings on with Constantine, & the war with the other deities which he knew nothing about, he simply felt left out. Denied his Lord's grace, he turned on the only people he had anywhere nearby, that being Henry and Alessa. In turn they looked after him, but that was all.
How could one make idle chitchat with someone they must know was writing disparging things about them in his journal? Vincent didn't know Henry knew about this, because he couldn't read his replies. and so, waking and sleeping, rising to rant about his dreams or the town's fractured history, Vincent was crawling the walls with his discontent and worry. He knew ~something~ was happening anyway; he could hear the moving about, & his dreams were growing more & more disturbing.
----
Glancing up when the door was knocked, she quickly stood up and pinning the note to the message oard on which she left directions for her usually sleepyhead roomates, Megumi crossed the room and quickly walked to open the door, opening it to reveal the lady standing before hr and for the briefest moment, she continued to stare, unable to take her eyes off the strangely attired one. A light blush crossing her cheeks, she then offered a quick smile and a light bow of her head, recognising her as the woman who had adressed her first before directing her to the one she called her Master. ".. Hello.." she greeted politely. "You must be here to collect me.."
-
Scarab bowed very formerly, remembering her manners, and gestured.
" I am. You may call me Scarab if you wish."
Scarab set off quickly, walking a little ahead in order to always keep the area in full view.
She said little; only responding politley on occasion, and gesturing when the other woman needed to turn a corner in order to keep up.
Soon enough they approached the Cathedral, and here Scarab became more vigilant, just in case the psychotic angel or one of it's minions decided to question what she was doing out and about so early.
The two women passed the great doors, and the chapel unmolested, and after asking Megumi to pause while Scarab went back to lock the rectory doors behind them
Now, Scarab led megumi down a plain hallway in one of the residential areas within the cathedral, staying silent all the while.
A left turn, then a right, and Scarab stopped before a rather non-descript door set among a hallway of rather non-descript doors.
" Please, go in and make yourself comfortable. My lord will be with you shortly." she said, then took up her post outside the simple sitting room, standing at attention.
---
The Red God watched Vincent impassively...
His blind prophet was quite obviously miserable at being unable to know what was happening around him.
The God's eyes shifted from dancing red lights, to a darker tone: the lighted shade of blood that has been left on a blade far too long.; displeasure.
Indeed, he was not pleased with Vincent's continued remarks on the nature of the God's relationship with Alessa, and Henry.
Vincent's demanding petulance often amused Xulchilbara...but this sulkiness did not become the human.
Dressed as formerly as The Dragon, who now waited with the healer upstairs,Xulchilbara stepped across the runic circle, his robes whispering across the flagstones.
A suede-gloved hand reached out, once the God had stepped up to kneel before where the prophet rested, and carressed the man's cheek.
" Wake....... I have a gift for you Kamlo..."
Vincent had cried himself to sleep once more- no mean feat when you've not got eyes to do it with. That Henry and Alessa were annoyed by him certainly had not escaped him, and he had only enflamed the situation. He was uncomfortable
He was miserable. and moreso the dreams were there everytime he passed into unconsciousness... he woke suddenly at Xuchilbara's touch. "Lord?" he cried, sounding every inch as abjectly miserable as the others had complained of him.
"I wanted to see you...so very much, why have you forsaken me?" on the tail of that tho he heard Xulchilbara's words. "A gift? What kind of a gift?"
-
Megumi had to take a lot of care when she came into Xulchibara's presence. While she had communicated with the man, she'd indeed felt a sense of severe foreboding but now, actually being in his presence was making her even more worried and tense than normal.
For one, that aura was beyond any sort of darkness she'd ever sensed, and it was frightening her but as she'd been exposed to such things from when she was young, she kept herself very composed, and tried to keep herself stable by maintaining a barrier around herself to keep her from the aura.
Granted that meant Xulchibara wouldn't be able to touch her but he didn't need to, so he might be safe.
Her eyes wandered to the other man, who seemed to be resting until he adressed him, and glancing between patient and master, she made sure to take a step away to be closer to him, and to also get as far away from Xulchibara without being offensive to him, waiting for him to allow her to go ahead with what she was here to do.
-
Chaotic eyes slid to the door, and the young healer.
"The most precious sort, Kamlo" the God answered.
Standing, he drew the hood of his vestments up, and over the upper portion of his face.
The trim of the thick suede robes shifted and moved with a sensuous form of runic; several seals meant to dampen his discordant nature to something more bareable for the white witch.
" Salutations, dear Megumi." he said by way of greeting, and nodded to her." Thank you for coming."
The God stood, and took care to keep his distance, as he crossed to a small table set out of the way.
He paused there, and gestured at a covered shape sitting before a tiny red votive candle.
He kept his eyes averted, and started to withdrawl something from the covered object.
" Megumi has agreed to help you, my dear." he continued, speaking both to Vincent & Megumi.
" She is a witch, aren't you lovelly girl?" he purred.
-
"Help me?" Vincent asked. "You mean, she can restore my sight?
Well then, let's do this." he said, and sat up in bed.
-
Megumi managed to give the other man a polite smile when she was adressed, and she noticed that he too had taken care to place wards around himself. She was silently grateful for that because she wasn't certain that she would be able to take things without fainting if he approached her, but she made sure to maintain her distance anyway.
At the address however, she let out a shy chuckle, trying to be businesslike about this and replied in a soft voice, "A healing witch.. yes." a look at Vincent filled her with pity. What sort of accident was the kind that hollowed out your eye sockets completely? She felt her heart sink in sorrow for a while, but knowing that she was here to do one job, she knew it would be foolish to ask unnecceary questions. Her job was to heal, not to judge.
Looking up at Xulchibara then, she gave him a nod, before turning to Vincent and slowly approaching the side of the place where he lay.
" You'll feel no pain, I promise." she offered as a light assurance. Then turning to Xulchibara, she tilted her head slightly. "sir..? You said you had.. ah.." she made a light mention towards what he had in his hands, as he'd told her he had replacment eyes for her.
-
His wrong eyes were covered by the hood, but a sharp smile still spread across his features at her attempts at comfort.
If only she knew the promise of pain would be far more comforting than promises of ease.
Gloved hands took the dark cloth from the carved wooden bowl in his hands.
The same bowl that had strange engravings which tended to shift and move when the eye was not on them.
He took a step closer to her, and extended the uncovered bowl toward the healer, yet took care to keep as far from her as possible.
He could feel her discomfort with the chaotic discord he exuded, and while the God couldn't help a pleased expression with her reaction, he did not comment; they did need the white witch in order to properly heal Vincent, after all.
The bowl contained a thick, viscous fluid. Greenish in color, and a scent that was familiar but had a tendency to remain ever elusive.
Within the fluid a pair of eyes stared back with the same chaotic colors as Xulchilbara's, save they shifted among a spectrum of emeralds, turquoises, pale blues, and aquamarine.
His gloves kept his hand covered, but nevertheless, he made certain she had a sure hold on the wooden bowl before letting go. It's contents were far too precious to risk otherwise.
Once she had it, he backed away once more so he would not interfere with her work.
-
Accepting the offered bowl, Megumi moved another hand to her chest, trying to stablise herself so as to not be affected by the evil that circulated this place. She wanted to ge out of here, as soon as possible, the darkness was nearly suffocating but she would not leave a job half-done. However, knowing her own unstable condition right now, she took some time to glance at the contents of the bowl, less disgusted than she was impressed, she had never seen such magics before, though she wasn't unfamiliar to the darker arts. It just wasn't her place of focus, so she steered away from it. After making sure she knew what she had before her, she knew she'd have to drop her own shields in order to cast the spells effectively. So first, she turned to Xulchibara, her gaze apologetic.
"I can do this.." she began to speak. "I'll need to be left alone with him, however. If that isn't acceptable, then.. could sir maintain twenty paces in space?" she didn't want to reveal how heavily disturbing his presence was for fear of being rude, and moved over to Vincent's side, covering the bowl with her hand, inhaling lightly. "You can lay down.." she told him. "It'll be over soon."
-
The God nodded slightly, and stepped further back until comfortably concealed in a bar of shadow.
" As you wish, sweet lady.."
-
Trying to keep her wits about he, Megumi inhaled lightly, then closing her eyes for a brief moment, she spread her hand over the bowl. It took barely a moment, but almost instantly, she was surrounded by a white glow, and when she re-opened her eyes, there were no irises or pupils to be seen, but a blessed empty white.
Moving her hands, so that the eyeballs levitated out of the lquid as if being guided by an anti-gravitational pull she directed them towards Vincent's emptied sockets, watching carefully through her own mind's eyes. In which the eyes appeared to be dark, vicous forms and she wanted to pull them back to destroy them but didn't do so.
Instead, she continued to focus them until they reached him, and then, she whispered some words, that would cause he other man to feel his veins and nerves for his eyes responding to and perhaps, offering that bit of pain thatr Megumi had assured would not come.
Trying to maintain her focus, she then closed her eyes again and within the next few moments, theeyes would be forced into the sockets, the optical nerves reacting to the presence of their new eyes and attached themselves to them, pulling them back in, and Megumi winced-- they were still under her control and the pain that followed, she was supposed to numb, but she couldn't find the strength to do it, not with her defenses down so badly.
One thing at a time, however, she maintained the hold until the blood vessels found their way to the eyes and then, she re-opened her own and lowered one hand, the other moving to cover Vincent's forehead with her own, and the light slowly began to die. Once she was done, she gasped, keeping her hand on Vincent's eyes, covering them, before whispering, "Don't open them yet.." her voice was shaking. "They'll bleed. Be careful. They'll settle within the hour, but you still need rest.." she told him. She could find her shoulders slumping. "Keep them closed.."
-
Vincent sort of winced when the eyes moved into his sockets. he trusted Xuchilbara, but there was something slimy, something ~wrong~ feeling about them... they were not human eyes, certainly. Perhaps they'd look that way in his head but he knew as they entered him they were something other. They seemed to REACH for his severed nerves and the snesation almost made him cry out.
He listened to the words the healer said. he was afraid of letting the eyes bleed, of opening them at all. he had caught a brief flash of vision- There are flowers on my deskstand, black roses, he thought- but it didn't seem like vision had once been for him.
He nodded, for once having no words, no snide little reply..... He was whole again, but the expereince had been...unsettling.
Here's hoping Xuchilbara would make him feel better as a reward for being so very brave?
