Log;
“Orochimaru-sama.” Tayuya intoned, walking down the stairs to the basement beneath the apartment. The light was dim, only candles every few feet guiding her. It reminded her of Otogakure.

She knew why he had summoned her. And the excitement combined with fear thrummed steadily in the back of her head. More power. A better curse seal. It had been years since her death back in their world, he’d perfected it. Made it better.

She paused at the bottom of the stairs, pupils widening as she tried to peer into the darkness. It smelled faintly of dried blood down here, only a whiff, but enough to make the hairs on the back of her neck stand up. Echoes of screams that had echoed in the gloom seemed to reverberate back at her, causing her to shiver. She couldn’t recall ever getting this feeling down here before. … Maybe she was just nervous. But she steeled her nerves. For power.

Orochimaru stepped out of the darkness of the underground layer that had been built not too long ago. It was actually still under construction, though the part that his subordinates were allowed to work on had been completed, the rest was his personal project.

“Tayuya, you’re ready.” It was not a question, she was, and if she was not, well she could not die again, technically. “Follow me.” He turned and walked back into the darkness of the underground laboratory. His natural abilities made it so he did not need the dim light of the candles, but Tayuya would not be able to see, so he extended some of his along the way.

She followed him blindly, eyes wide and straining even though she might as well have closed her eyes, as far as she could see. And she could feel her master’s chakra, leading her, a comforting force that calmed her as it made her even more cautious.

“Orochimaru-sama?” Her hand, slightly outstretched in front of her, had hit what appeared to be a solid metal door. Fingers gliding over the surface, she froze, vision still searching about for the man. She didn’t… well, she did know how this went. Pain, lots of pain. She’s left all of her weapons behind, nothing sharp or dangerous on her person. She’d even taken the precaution of trimming her nails, since she’d gouged herself badly the first time. ... And the first time had taken days.

“Well, step inside.” He ordered, standing just behind her. He could sense her presence, the slight heat of her in the cold of the underground not a foot away. There was nothing in this part of the laboratory, except for empty rooms, specially designed to absorb chakara, and keep anyone from sensing anything from the outside. Once Tayuya was in that room, it would be as if she had disappeared. Only once she had her new seal under control would she be able to exit. Until then, she would not be able to work something so simple as a door handle.

“… Of course, sir.” Tayuya swallowed a gulp and tentatively reached for the door, pausing for a moment before steadily opening the door and stepping in. It was still dark, and as far as she could tell, an empty expanse. Unconsciously, her hand went to the nape of her neck, fingers tracing the slight warmth of her curse seal.

Orochimaru stepped into the room behind Tayuya, her home until the process was complete. Seamless walls, nothing to grab onto, nothing to pick up, the room was a perfect box. He couldn’t have her hurting herself, that would ruin everything, it would take too much time, time he didn’t have to waste.

“You’ll feel a slight sting, and then a lot of pain.” He said, as his hand came up, brushing hers aside and he lay his palm over her curse seal, able to sense its link to his chakra. With his free hand, he formed a series of seals, nearly one hundred in total, before he stepped back seeing a slight glow from the seal as it began to change.

Without another word, he shut the door behind him, leaving the rest to time.

It as moment before it hit her. She felt the heat on her neck growing, twisting, changing. She broke into a sweat, muscles beginning to clench and stiffen. Tayuya’s jaw ground as she bit her lip, hard. The salty taste of blood in her mouth wasn’t enough to distract her form the searing pain inching its way up her neck, down her spine, into her body and brain. It was like fire, like ice, like a thousand needles or a crushing stone. Unbeknownst to her, her breath quickened to hyperventilation, eyes fluttering widly.

She hit the floor, but the slight jarring pain was barely noticed. It wasn’t enough to register any longer. The screaming started after a little while. Hoarse, loud, and feral screaming that ripped from her throat along with tears as she writhed on the bare floor, spine alternating between straight and curved as if it would snap. Tears streamed down her face, eyes clenched close and mouth open, her screams eventually going soundless as her voice died in her throat and she was unable to force the sounds of pain from her lips.

Her skin darkened as the seal snaked across her skin, taking over her body once more. The pain was worse this time. More intense, more powerful. The horns sprouted from her head only to withdraw, emerging and retreating as the seal fought her chakra for control. Her irises snapped back and forth between gold and brown, her hair twisting as it grew and shortened, her curse seal form torn between fighting her chakra and the seal.

Time passed.

Tayuya wasn’t sure how long. She lost track. Couldn’t tell anymore. Night? Day? It didn’t matter. There was pain. But then, as suddenly as it had began, it died.

Her eyes fluttered weakly and she tried to lift her head, trying to focus on something, anything. The door caught her blurry sight and her fingers twitched slightly as she attempted to reach forward.

“… O… rochimaru…” She croaked, though her voice was soundless, not even audible. She closed her mouth, trying to wipe to saliva and tears from her face, muscles shaking as she fought to move.

“… sama…?” She tried again, unaware of the curse seal cool and quiet on her neck, power waiting just below the surface.

It had been three days now, if she had not gained control by this point, Tayuya had died and nothing had changed. He stood outside the door, it had been silent the last time he had come down to check on her progress as well. Not a sound had come through the door since the second day, even to his heightened senses.

Orochimaru was about to turn and walk away, but then he heard it; just the faintest whisper. ”…sama…” He didn’t know, and wouldn’t know until he opened the door if she had been strong enough, but now he would find out.

He turned the handle, the latch of the unlocked door barely clicking as it came free. With the slight scraping of metal on stone, the door came open, and he could feel the weak pulse of chakra from the room. It was different than it had been before, the signature ever so slightly off from Tayuya’s, like after the first time. She had made it.

With a tooth baring grin, he knelt on the floor next to the weakened, and strengthened, form of his subordinate. “Welcome back.” He pulled a strand of hair from her face, the locks damp from sweat. “You did well.”

It really was heart warming to see them grow up.

(ooc: Tayuya will be back Sunday, promise. Until then, feel free to wonder where she went.)
