Summary; Hinata, Hotaru, and Glinda go Christmas shopping.
Log;

Glinda didn’t really understand much about this “Christmas” holiday. The word held a vague resemblance to “Lurlinemas,” a holiday in Oz. All Glinda really got was presents. And presents meant shopping. And wherever shopping was to be found, it was a safe bet that Glinda wasn’t far off. Thankfully, Hinata had promised to explain the real meaning of Christmas to her.

Hinata, Glinda, and Hotaru had made plans to meet somewhere and shop together. List in hand, Glinda said a quick goodbye to Elphaba and made her way to the fountain. She spared only a quick glance at the fountain itself when she arrived, trying to suppress recent memories and instead turned her back on it to await the arrival of the two young girls.

She was running late. Late. Again. Hinata bit her lip, darting through the crowds as she headed towards the tinkling machinery of the fountain.

Good, it's not too much farther.

She could see the mist from the sprays of water rising above the heads of the people walking to and fro with their parcels and packages. It was strange, however. While people still greeted each other, still waved and said "hello" and nodded, the entire atmosphere was different. She supposed it had to do with the City's nature, but it seemed almost as though a somber thickness hung heavy over the crowds, obscuring what should have been a joyous season with it's darkness. Stumbling slightly, she almost fell as she tripped over a crack in the road and caught herself, arms windmilling slightly. Regaining her footing, she frowned to herself. That wasn't very shinobi-like. Mentally, she thanked any gods that would listen that none of her friends, and especially Neji had not been present. A fine kunoichi of Konoha, indeed....

But...I'm not a 'fine shinobi', am I?

Running fingers through touseled indigo hair, she finally made it through the crowd. A sense of relief passed through her as she saw the blonde still standing by the fountain. That was good. Maybe she wasn't as late as she thought she was. Either way, at least Glinda was still there. She jogged over, shivering slightly. In hindsight, perhaps she should have worn more layers. But the grey cargo pants had been convenient and comfortable, and the dark blue cable-knit sweater hid her figure, even though it's neckline hung off her shoulders. But that was why she'd put the white tank top under it, AND wrapped the thick baby-blue and white striped scarf around her neck. Despite what others occasionally told her, she just couldn't be comfortable with her own body. It was all that she could seem to do to wear short skirts, or fancy dresses that bared skin on occasion. The dark-haired Hyuuga waved at her friend as she arrived, skidding to a stop in front of Glinda and bending over, hands on her knees as she panted for breath.

"G..G..Glinda-san, gomen. I..sorry I'm late.."

Hotaru glanced around her at the bustling crowds as she waited by the fountain. Violet eyes narrowed slightly and she bit her lip. This wasn't good. She knew what Glinda looked like, but that didn't seem to be making it any easier to find her new friend. She mentally hoped that she wouldn't have to do her shopping alone afterall. One pale hand reached up to tuck a stray strand of raven-black hair behind her ear as she sat down on the edge of the fountain, drawing her black woolen shawl tighter around her.

Perhaps I should have just worn pants? But...I don't think I own any pants..

Pants or no pants, the whispy girl was at least grateful that she always wore black tights. They were definitely coming in handy at the moment. Not to mention the scarf wrapped around her neck. Either way, she hoped she found Glinda soon. And this "Hinata" person. Hotaru didn't know who the other girl was, though the name was familiar. She closed her eyes, trying to remember if she had met the other person. She could call up a vague impression of a small pale face framed by short dark hair and a soft voice, but nothing beyond that.

Must have been a guest at Glinda-san's party, I guess.

Hotaru smiled warmly and bowed slightly to the other girl. She was right, it was the dark-haired girl from the party. NOW she knew where she'd seen her. This same girl had been at the party, rather shyly stealing glances at the handsome young man who had escorted her. In fact.... She took in the other girls' blank white irises with a slight feeling of uneasiness. Despite the friendliness that Hinata seemed to radiate, it was still disconcerting to one who had never before seen a Hyuuga.

Is she...blind? No...she seems able to see just fine. A family trait, then?

She shook her head to Glinda.

"No, I'm alright. I was a little cold at first, but it's nothing. This is a very warm shawl."

Hinata shook her head to Glinda's assertion of cold. Of course...she WAS cold. But she wasn't going to admit that she'd stubbornly left her coat at home. She smiled at Hotaru, bowing to the shorter girl. Hotaru was younger, she could tell that much. In fact, the girl reminded Hinata a little bit of herself at a younger age, with her short dark hair, pale face, and quiet shy manner. Hotaru looked to be about 13 or so, with her dark hair cut in a pageboy style, the ends just curling under her chin. She had an almost waifish quality to her, but the thing that drew Hinata's eyes the most were her eyes.

Such pretty eyes...like amethysts. And she seems shy, quiet. A lot like me, I guess.

She studied Hotaru's dress and felt a twinge of jealousy at the girl's lithe and willowy figure.

Lucky...I wish I were built like that. But...I don't know if I'd want to be as frail as she seems to be. She looks like she's got a weak constitution.

"I'm alright, Glinda-san. Hotaru-san, it's nice to meet you. Let's get started, ne?"

The Hyuuga girl nodded and glanced around, eyes settling on a store that seemed to sell clothing of all sorts. She pointed, tugging her scarf tighter around her neck against the chill breeze.

"Let's go there first. It looks like it would have a lot of different things in it."

As they walked towards the store, she debated on how best to begin explaining the meaning of the holiday to her friend. Chewing her lip thoughtfully, she shrugged mentally to herself.

Well, I guess I might as well just start at the beginning.

She turned to Glinda and smiled, cocking her head to one side.

"So...Christmas started out as a religious holiday. One particular religion states that their savior was born on the day of Christmas, that he was the son of their God and that he was sent to the world as a mortal in order to save his people from death by granting them the ability to be forgiven of their sins and enter paradise after death. The story states that the baby was born in a stable because that night all the inns and homes in the town were full and his parents were unable to find anywhere else to sleep for the night. Supposedly at his birth, this beautiful star appeared in the sky and served as a beacon to lead the earthly kings to the child. They came to see the child who had been spoken of in prophecy and bring him fabulous gifts. That's where the tradition of gift-giving comes from."

She paused as they stepped through the door of the busy store, browsing slowly through racks of items while continuing her story.

"Over the years, Christmas became more then that. The birth of the savior was considered a joyous and monumental occasion, and one to be celebrated. Since he was also supposed to be a gift from a loving god to a damned world, it became tradition to give thanks and show gratitude for the things that one has been given in life. That's why it's a holiday of togetherness. Because it's meant to show your love and concern for those close to you the same way that their god showed his love by giving his son an earthly form in order to save the people."

Hotaru listened silently as the other girl delved through a simple yet meaningful take on the meaning of the season. She smiled slightly to herself as she watched Glinda listening to the soft voice as it spun it's story, picking carefully over a pile of soft cashmere scarves.

She has a gentle voice. Like Usagi-chan, in a way. Just...with a more mature and quieter manner to her. I wonder if she can sing? She would probably have a lovely singing voice.

Turning back to the scarves, she fingered one that was striped in several different layers of pink, smiling at it.

I think Glinda-san would probably like this. Afterall, she's always wearing pink.

She giggled slightly to herself and glanced over at the object of her words. Thankfully, Glinda was paying attention to Hinata, so it was a fairly easy matter for Hotaru to slip over to the counter and pay for the scarf before sliding it's bag into the black bag she had brought with her.

Hotaru nodded slightly, agreeing with Hinata's explanation. But there was one thing missing. The dark-haired girl smiled and shook her head.

"You forgot Santa Claus, Hinata-san."
