Log;

Itachi was right. It didn't take long at all for Kisame to sense his partner's chakra, and use it to lead him to the Uchiha.

Kisame looked up when he reached what he assumed was the preferred meeting place... and what a place it was. The ruins of what could vaguely be considered a hospital laid before him. The once white-washed walls, now cracked and filthy, seemed to beckon him in, the door chained tightly. Kisame grabbed the padlock, and with a solid tug, loosed the chain and slipped inside the dark, dank ex-building.

"Itachi-san! I'm here." Kisame called out into the darkness. He knew he was here... it was just a matter of getting him to come out.

While the crimson-eyed Akatsuki didn't appear, a kunai tipped with a red tassel and an enameled fan shot out of the darkness to embed itself at Kisame's feet. There was the slightest jingle as the tassel swung, the metal ball in it's small bell chiming softly with the rhythem.

"So I see. And as noisy as ever, it appears."

The Uchiha's voice echoed, the sound waves bouncing off of the surfaces of the room and rebounding back in a muted cacaphony that served it's purposes of deception quite well as it vibrated with a slight chuckle.

"And why should I do that? My, Kisame. You seem to be a tad short-tempered today. Though, I suppose that isn't necessarily unusual for you."

The inky blackness in the shadows seemed to expand, though it was likely just an optical illusion as the darkness concealed Itachi's form. Ruby-crimson irises studied Kisame, the tomoe whirling for a moment before translucent lids slid shut for a moment before opening again to reveal onyx-black eyes.

"Besides, it serves as an excellent test of your skills. Afterall, if you have come here from a time prior to my own, then I should make sure your power level is adequate."

"Of course we have a mission. A mission which I happen to be holding several major cards to. And I am most certainly not going to come out with you lambasting that lump of metal around. I have far better things to do then deal with your temper."

Despite his words, the elder Uchiha stepped out of the shadows across the room from Kisame, pulling off his wide-brimmed hat with a slight jingle.

Itachi sighed slightly to himself. Well, that was Kisame for you. Always direct, always to the point. His partner never beat around the bush about anything. But, that was just the shark-man's way. Kisame had little regard for the arts of subtlety and deception that his slighter partner favoured. He cared nothing for the delicate process of turning a mind inward upon itself, of pushing a fragile psyche to the brink of ruin and holding it there as it teetered, poised on the brink, waiting for the shattering crack that signified the breaking of a spirit. Of watching the dark veils of despair and hopelessness creep into the eyes of his victim as the twin demons of fear and uncertainty dug their bloody talons in even deeper. But then, that was probably part of the reason that their partnership was such a strong one. Each complimented the other's strengths. Itachi was the brain, Kisame the brawn. Where the Uchiha was calculating, patient, deliberate, the shark did everything with gusto, intensity, and brashness. In short, they were polar opposites.

"This place, is the City. As I told you before, it is a world that exists seperately of any other reality or existence. It is it's own self-contained prison and paradise. This world is counting down the time until the supposed "end of all worlds". There is no way that I have yet determined through which to leave and return to our rightful places. Additionally, the power of this City is such that even the dead walk with earthly feet here."

Itachi narrowed his scarlet gaze at his impatient partner.

"Quiet. You stated that you wished to know everything that you needed to know, and I am telling you what you need to know. If you persist in being obstinate about the speed at which I speak, then shall I drop you into the Tsukuyomi?"

Closing his eyes for a moment, he took a deep breath and continued.

"They are both here. My foolish little brother, and the kyuubi jinchuuriki. As I stated, I am in control of these two major cards. My brother, of course, is of little consequence as anything other then a bargaining chip. Especially given the fact that he has been pulled to this world from a time several years past, still a boy. As for the kyuubi...I have assured his "cooperation", to a degree."

Utterly unafraid of the blue-skinned man, Itachi raised an eyebrow slightly. He certainly respected his partner's strength. He'd have to be a fool not to. But he also knew that Kisame wouldn't actually kill him. Not only would it go against Akatsuki's plans, but it would complicate matters more then was necessary. The red eyes spun once, a warning only, but one that, like Kisame's threat, wouldn't likely be carried out.

"I hadn't expected to get the child to simply agree to give up the kyuubi. He's too choked on Konoha's milk of honor and human goodness for that. However, it can be quite amazing the lengths to which one will sacrifice when something precious to them is at stake. In this case, the life of my pathetic sibling. As such, the kyuubi will remain out of the fray, no interfering in our plans. He is weak, when the time comes we can simply capture him. But until that time, he is bound by his word and my seal to keep his end of the deal. And the only thing that I had to do in return was to dump that waste of Uchiha blood in front of the fountain."

"Of course it does."

Itachi frowned slightly, as Kisame drove straight to the one point the Sharingan-user had yet to circumvent. For, cocky as he may be, Uchiha Itachi was no fool. He knew very well that the combined strength of he and his partner, even added to Deidara, was not nearly enough power to extract the kyuubi from the boy. The question was, what do do about it. He sighed irritably.

"No. Even with Deidara aiding us, there is still simply not enough power at our disposal. However, the City may very well make this a moot point. As it draws individuals from other worlds, it has already drawn some of monumental power. Should we manage to forge an 'alliance' with them, then that would give us access to their power. Once we have them under our control and we have the Kyuubi, we can then deal with them as we like."

"Playing" is an accurate term for it. He seems to have taken a much different approach to things. Making friends, going on "ice-cream dates" and the like. Though despite the abject humiliation to be seen in that light while wearing the banner of Akatsuki, he has managed to gather substantial intel. So it hasn't been a complete waste. Though I think I understand how he feels about Tobi, now..."

Itachi raised one eyebrow to his blue-skinned companion. Not that he would ever engage in such foolishness. Unlike Deidara, the Uchiha saw no reason to engage in any form of niceties with the insects that populated the rest of the world. For while they could certainly provide a degree of insight, and even usefullness such as when that Konoha medic reattachd the blonde's arm, Itachi wasn't ready to sacrifice his lofty dignity quite yet.

Itachi nodded.

"Certainly, they are of little consequence, but don't underestimate them. At the moment, the most worrisome player would be the Yondaime Hokage. I'm sure you're aware of his power. While I doubt he's capable of using THAT jutsu here, we have to maintain our guard around him."

He grimaced, rubbing the bridge of his nose. His eyes were hurting again. Too much use of the mangekyo within too short a time.
