Log;

Again! It'd happened again, and he hadn't been able to stop it. Not only had he been beaten again, but it had been twice in a few days. Both Aizen and Grimmjow had become his opponents, and neither had found him much of a challenge. He'd taken some condolence in the fact that he'd not been given the opportunity to fight the ex-captain, but that had been lost the moment the fight between he and the Arrancar had been decided.

Even Bankai hadn't been enough to hold him off for long.

Though the voice in his head had been smart enough to stay inside.

Eleven seconds. All that time spent training and he could still only manage those few seconds. It'd been enough to beat the ex-Espada, Dordonii, but that just wasn't enough for those that were still seated.

And yet despite that, he'd still gone ahead to Hueco Mundo to try and save Inoue. He'd gone alone, only to find that friends had arrived, regardless of his words, their families, and their orders. Even if they hadn't shown, he would've gone alone.

...what use would he have been?

And now, he was in another world (or so people had said). A city that he was unable to escape from. Admittedly, that wasn't so much of a problem just then. Aizen, and two of the Arrancar were there. It increased the chances that the other four would be able to rescue Inoue without him. Three enemies gone in exchange for his own disappearance. Not only that, but it gave him time.

Those eleven seconds would grow, grow and become minutes, and if it were even possible...hours. If it was possible to do it, he would find a way, no matter what it took.

"This is the place," he muttered to noone. During a random reply from Nell, he'd learnt about a desert that existed within the city. It'd have to do. Either the desert, or the forest, and judging by how often it seemed that people ended up in there, the forest was out of the question. He had no clue how his 'other half' would react to the fact he had no opponent when he called on him.

His body had been left at his apartment, locked away in his room for the time being. Nell was staying with the Shinigami she seemed to have become friends with. And people had been informed. So...

A hand raised to his face, a mask slowly sliding into place as his energies gathered together; both his reiatsu and hollow energy combining to force the mask into existance.

...and barely eleven seconds later, it had disappeared again.

Again and again, he tried, until the point his body decided to give out on him. Almost collapsing onto the sand, Zangetsu's blade was stabbed into the ground, before he collapsed back into a seated position, staring up at the blade that had fought with him through so much already. He'd relied on it for so long, and yet again, he found himself taking comfort in the fact that he wasn't alone in his newest step.

Yoruichi watched the boy's attempts from where she sat on top of one of the large rock outcroppings that seemed to erupt from the sand at irregular intervals. Reiatsu suppressed so as to avoid notice, yellow eyes studied him as he repeatedly tried and failed to break the barriers between his two selves. After remaining a silent observer for several minutes, she shook her head with a sigh, jumping down.

"Stop trying so hard, Ichigo. If you try and force it, it only makes it more difficult on yourself."

She raised an eyebrow slightly. He certainly seemed more sullen then his usual self. The dark-skinned woman considered simply leaving, but instead heaved a sigh.

I promised Kisuke I would look out for him. Promised Kisuke..

Walking over to the orange-haired shinigami, she rummaged in a pocket and pulled out a candy bar, tossing it to him as she plopped down across from him, crossing her legs into a lotus-style. She cocked her head to the side, expression almost one of an exasperated parent talking to a recalcitrant child.

"That's how you greet someone who came to help you? If I were you, I'd check that attitude a little bit. Unless you don't want my help."

She shrugged, getting to her feet and starting to walk away.

"Fine. Keep doing the same thing over and over again. Let me know if it works. But you know.."

Pausing, she turned to glance over her shoulder.

"Real men admit it when they need some help with something. Especially if someone older and wiser is offering."

One dark violet eyebrow raised, eyes sparkling with mirth. THAT was better. Honestly, the boy was too much like Kisuke sometimes. Even though he lacked her companion's often lazy attitude, Ichigo could be just as stubborn and unwilling to actually ask for help as the hat-wearing ex-captain.

"And if I do?"

She nodded and sat down cross-legged in front of him. Her mind was going over the possibilities in her head. Granted, she knew next to nothing about how one went about acheiving Hollow powers, or combining them with those of a Shinigami, for that matter. But in a way, it was similar to when she'd learned the Shunko. Taking two very different techniques, different energies and motions, and blending them into something new. She sighed, scratching her head.

"Look, think of it this way. You're trying to take two things and combine them to create a new thing, right? Well, just tossing them together doesn't always work. It's like cooking, or working with chemicals. Sure you can throw sugar and flour into the same bowl and they'll mix together without you hardly having to do anything. But that's because they're similar things. Your Hollow powers and your Shingami powers aren't. It's like oil and water. You can't just force them together and expect it to work. You've got to blend them, make them work as a team, rather then trying to force them to create something new."

She shook her head. "No, you still don't get what I'm saying. You're still trying to exeert your will over them both. To bend them to what YOU want them to do. That won't work. Rather then trying to make the river flow the way you want it to, learn to work WITH the current to get to your destination."

Crossing her arms over her chest, she shrugged.

"Then let him out. You have to come to terms with him, Ichigo. He's part of you, whether you like it or not. The harder you try to FORCE it to do your bidding, the more it's going to fight back."
