Log;
Hotaru stood underneath the cherry tree, feeling a little apprehensive. Not only was it dark outside, but it was cold. And silent. The petite girl bit her lower lip, dark eyes constantly scanning to vegetation around her. Itachi-sama had said that his shark friend would come to meet her, and she certainly trusted Itachi-sama. But...she knew what the shark had told her about his enemies. What if they stumbled across her first? She mentally collected her thoughts and shook her head. No, she would be fine. Like she had told Archer, she was perfectly capable of taking care of herself. Thoughts of the white-haired man brought a slight frown to her pale face. Archer had NOT wanted her to go and meet Itachi-sama. Hotaru wasn't sure why her servant didn't like the man, but she assumed it was one of those "guy things" that Minako used to mention. Either way, it had taken all her pleading and pouting and finally a promise of chocolate icecream to get her guardian to agree to let her go alone.
Gomen, Archer...I know you're worried about me, and I know you don't mean any harm, but I don't want Itachi-sama to think that I don't trust him..
She pulled the black cload around her, fingering the heavy woolen material and the deep red lining, nearly the colour of blood. It was a very nice cloak, much nicer then she thought anyone should have given her. Frowning slightly, she pulled the edge of it around, noticing something embroidered to what would have been the lapel of the cloak, if cloaks had such things. Slender fingers traced over a faded red and white fan stitched into the front of the cloak.
I wonder what this is..
Hearing a rustling noise, she started, relaxing when the leaves parted to reveal the imposing figure of Itachi-sama's partner. With a simple bow and greeting, the man turned and beckoned for her to follow him. As they traveled, she once again tried to pay attention to nothing but the back of the shark's cloak. If Itachi-sama's enemies were anywhere near the awful people that the shark had told her of, then she wanted to make sure she wasnt' giving away any information unintentionally.

The source of her thoughts was waiting for them at the concealed entrance to their lair. Black silk wrapped around his face, obscuring his eyes. Hotaru didn't think too much of it, as he had already told her when she'd healed his eyes that he wanted his enemies to think him still at a disadvantage. It made sense to her, especially if they had blinded him once. But..what didn't make sense to her was why they had taken such pains to target his eyes and not his vitals.

"Hotaru-chan, I trust the cloak kept you warm?" The man stood, leaning against the edge of the building, customary black and red cloak traded for a
He slid his arms into a thick black overcoat and slid a pair of sunglasses over the bandages before he offered her his arm in a most-gentlemanly fashion.
"Shall we be going? I picked a place I thought you might like." He nodded to Kisame, muttering something that she couldn't pick up.

Likely something she didn't need to know, so Hotaru didn't think much of it. She nodded and smiled at him, curling her fingers around the crook of his elbow and allowing him to lead her down the street. As they walked, the older man stayed fairly silent, only really speaking to ask if she was too cold or getting tired. It was strange, in a way. Hotaru herself was a quiet girl, and she hadn't met many people who were the same way. But with Itachi, it didn't seem as though it was a question of shyness. Rather, it was just that he didn't have much to say, and when he did say something, it was always well-thought and purposeful. But..she wanted him to talk to her. So it was with a smile and a tug on his sleeve that she tried to entice him into conversation.

"ne, Itachi-sama? What sort of place are we going to?"

He smiled slightly at her. "It's a Chinese place. I hope that's alright, I didn't know your preferences."

The girl shook her head and smiled. "No, Chinese is fine. In fact, I haven't had good Chinese food in a long time."

Her companion nodded. "Well then it looks as though I chose well. Ah, here we are." He led her over to a small restaurant with a black and red awning lit on either side by ornate lanterns hanging from the corners. Holding the door open for her, he carefully ushered her in before stepping up to the hostess. "Reservation for two. Uchiha."

The girl at the desk pulled out a list and ran her finger down it before setting it down and smiling. "Right this way, Mr. Uchiha." She led them over to a small table in a back corner. The waiter pulled out her chair for her before taking her cloak and draping it over the back of her chair. Smiling, she pulled the menu over and began to look through it.

Crimson eyes watched her intently through the black silk, Sharingan reading her movements. It was essential this go as planned. The girl was too valuable of an asset to Akatsuki to let her slip from his grasp. And if keeping her well and under their thumb meant he had to play to her childish fantasies, then so be it. Afterall, it wasn't as though the Uchiha had anything to lose. Charming masque falling back into place, he smiled as she glanced up at him, small face in a slight frown. "What's wrong? Can't find anything you like?"

She shook her head. "No..it's not that. I just...it's all so expensive. I don't..want you to have to spend so much on me."

He laughed, shaking his head and pushing the menu back to her. "Order whatever you like. It's a small price to pay for what you've done for us, Hotaru-chan. Please. I won't take 'no' for an answer."

She giggled slightly and nodded. "Ok...but only if you're sure." After placing her order and handing the menu back to the waiter, she studied her dinner partner. Chewing on her lip for a moment, she took a deep breath before continuing. "I..Itachi-sama? I..can I ask you...about yourself? Shark-san wouldn't tell me much, and I..I really wanted to know.."

He cocked his head to one side with a slight chuckle. "Of course. I'll tell you what I can, but I'm sure you understand that some things I need to keep secret. For your safety, of course. But..ask away, my dear."

She nodded. "Well...where did you come from? And how did you get here?"

"I was born in a village called Konoha, in the Country of Fire. My clan was very much admired and respected in the village, they had played a great role in the wars that took place both before and after I was born."

"Until they were killed, right? Shark-san...he told me. About...your brother. How he killed them all?"

Itachi's eyes widened slightly and he could have kissed Kisame at the moment, had the shark been there. This would make things so much easier if she'd already been fed the tainted information. Instead, he let his mouth fall into a somber expression and nodded. "Hai..Sasuke. My younger brother, by about 6 years. I..I doted on him. Spent all the time I could teaching him things, playing with him. But..what we didnt' know was that he was twisted. A sociopath. When he was 8, I was coming home from a mission. I found..Sasuke had gone on a killing spree. I found him, standing over the bodies of our parents. He came at me, like a thing posessed. If you've never seen someone in the grip of madness, they are unbelievably strong. The mental torsion just seems to give them super-human strength. As it was, I could only fight back so much. Afterall, he..he's my little brother. Even if I was defending myself, I didn't want to kill him. So I just incapacitated him and ran."

Her violet eyes had begun to brim with tears as his story continued. "That...that's awful. And...he's still hunting you?"

The dark-haired man nodded, thanking the waiter as he brought their food. "Yes, he is. I don't think Sasuke will ever stop hunting me." With a smile, he glanced up at her and tucked a stray strand of hair behind one ear. "But, enough about me. Tell me about yourself? I'm anxious to learn what sort of world would create a girl who can do what you can."

She blushed slightly and continued eating. "Well...it's something that I've been able to do since I was little, but I don't know why. When..when I was 6, I was killed in an explosion, in Poppa's lab. Poppa...he sold his soul to get me back. We were both ok, but..he wasn't Poppa anymore. He put a demon inside me, to look for the Holy Grail, so that the demons could open a permanent gate to our world. When..when we fought the white messiah, I found out that I had powers even without the demon. But...they were afraid of my powers. They said that I was the bringer of ruin, and that if my powers were ever to awaken, that it would spell doom for the world. So...they tried to kill me. I..when I fought off the demon, she took the Grail and plunged the world into darkness. And then...my powers awakened. And I..I Silenced the world." She trailed off, staring down at her half-eaten plate.

The crimson-eyed one reached out a hand to squeeze hers in a comforting manner. "So it seems we have both been hunted for simply being what we are. But there's nothing to fear. You're here now, and you have friends, don't you?"

Violet eyes lit up and she nodded. "Hai. I do. You and Shark-san, and Archer and Kagura-san and Glinda-san. And Hinata-san, though I don't know her that well."

He nodded. "Hyuuga Hinata? I would be wary. While she is harmless, her cousin and friends are my enemies. They might turn on you if they knew you were associating with me." He flagged down the waiter to bring them the check.

She nodded. Hinata, dangerous? Even though Itachi-sama said so, Hotaru had a hard time believing that the sweet girl she had met while shopping would do anything to hurt her. But, she supposed appearances could be deceiving. As they stood up to leave, Itachi draped the cloak back around her shoulders and placed a hand on the small of her back to guide her towards the door. Leisurely, he walked her back to the entrance to Xanadu. Turning around, he leaned down and pressed a quick kiss to the center of her forehead with a smile. "Thank you for a lovely evening, Hotaru-chan. Hopefully we can do it again sometime." With a flash of black and red, he was gone. Hotaru watched after him for a moment, face flushed and heart in her throat before she turned with a smile and headed back to her home.
