Log: Complete
When: December 30

Characters: D [
favored_son], Integral [
steeldame] and Alucard [
thekingofpain]
Summary: Integral runs into D as they walk the halls, trying to deal with the countdown.
Log;
With no vampires to hunt and no Frontier to traverse, D was, for the first time in centuries, restless. The ticking of the clock was almost enough to give him a headache or drive him mad, in light of its increased pace and his lack of desensitization to the noise. Rather than remain in the room he had been given, the dhampir took to haunting the halls ... granted, nowhere near as subtly as his father was capable of, since D was bound by some physical laws, but he was still unusually stealthy.
The noise! Integral thought alarmed, finding herself unable to focus or think clearly. The countdown! She hastily left her quarters to search either Seras or Alucard. Had Millennium sped up the process again? Or… She hoped it was that bloody catboy's fault and not a City doing. She would know how to deal with the former better. As she cross the corridors, Integral paid no attention to who was inside their flat until she bumped into him. She looked up, facing the "hunter" that Alucard claimed to be their son.
"Sir Hellsing," D greeted her, quiet voice unperturbed as he briefly caught her shoulder to steady her before stepping back to give her space. "You seem distracted."
The ticking was tolerant when you were around someone and the only one who was close was this person. Straightening herself, Integral observed him closely. He did bear an uncanny resemblance to her. Perhaps that fooled Alucard? "The countdown… Were you listening?"
"I can hear it," he confirmed. How could he not, with his father's blood in his veins, strengthened by ten millenia of existence? Though he attempted to maintain a professional distance in dealing with the woman, his often abrupt and detached manner softened in her presence.
"Has Alucard explained to you?" Integral asked, distracted by this. She wanted to speak with Walter, just in case there was no other chance left. She wanted to express herself to her subordinates too. "That is the countdown for the end of all worlds."
D arched one perfect eyebrow in a display of healthy skepticism. It was unusual for him to be so expressive, but he found himself behaving more and more as he had in his youth with renewed exposure to his parents. "The end of all worlds. Who has made this claim?"
Integral understood why he was skeptical. She had reacted in a similar fashion during the first few months, until she understood the grave circumstances they were living. "The so called minions or city deities," she explained. "This sounds like madness but I assure you their claim is not without foundation. I wouldn't worry if was indeed a fallacy."
"No." D sighed. "I suppose you wouldn't."
With that resignation, this hunter resembled Alucard. Integral reached out, extending her arm to touch his face. His high cheekbones were like hers, like her vampire's. His long nose also a trait they shared. And those eyes, of such cold blue. He is my… It was countdown stress that was making her imagine things, a whisper of a future that could be perhaps. Was she clutching straws to think of a tomorrow? A new year? "Son…?"
"I am," the dhampir confirmed, not daring to do anything more. Did she truly believe what Alucard had told her? What her own senses should be telling her?
"This shouldn't be," she whispered, averting her eyes. "You two shouldn't have told me a word. It's too soon for me to know… My choices could change. You can never be born. What was Alucard thinking?"
With a sad smile, D inclined his head. "To be honest, I was not in a state to think such things through when I arrived, but the risk you speak of is one that I am willing to take. It has been ... very lonely, and there are certain elements of the future that I would not mind changing."
"He is. Yours and mine," Alucard replied, stepping from the shadows. He had been watching the entire time. Integral seemed at her wits' end, the ending of the world was dawning before them. "We will stop it, Integral. We will. For London, for the world and for our son. There will be no mistakes."
And he wanted to live. Now, more than ever, he wanted to live.
She was too distracted to notice Alucard, too focused on D before her.
"Do you see why I find it difficult to believe that the ... countdown ... is truly one for the end of all the worlds?" D asked his mother. "You have more left to do. Father has more left to do."
Moving from behind, he looked at his family, quite contented. The madness calmed within him, the voices, the drive for destruction, all were gone. With a sigh he moved to touch their shoulders, one hand on each. His family.
