Log;

Already angry from his earlier run-in with his long lost father and Fourth Hokage, Uzumaki Naruto had erupted - quite literally - at the presence of Orochimaru in the city. A few antagonizing words from the snake bastard set him off, as bad as it had back on his own world only weeks ago. Since learning how to use the kyuubi's chakra, it was becoming easier and easier to access that tremendous wealth of power.

The seal he'd had since birth, however, had been there for a reason. Channeling too much of the demon's power had its consequences, consequences he was feeling now after his fight with Orochimaru. The way his body ached and burned like he'd just been set on fire wasn't what bothered him, though. What bothered him was the total lapse in his memory. Naruto couldn't remember a single thing after the fourth tail manifested itself.

Rather than voice those concerns, he focused on the pink-haired shinobi who was pulling him along towards the apartment. Doing his best to walk with his own two feet and failing miserably, he'd never felt more guilty over something he'd done.

He could have gotten her killed.

"I'm sorry," he whispered hoarsely into her shoulder.

Trying desperately not to cry after an agonizing hour of helplessly watching Naruto –or what used to be Naruto- battle it out with Orochimaru, it had finally ended. Naruto had passed out and changed back to himself before Sakura’s very eyes, and she had rushed to help him, gingerly pulling his arm over her shoulder and resting his weight on her right side.

She was still scared out of her mind, bottom lip chewed raw, but hearing Naruto speak gave her a flicker of hope that he would be alright, despite the terrible condition of his body. He had always healed fast, she had noticed over the years. It would be okay. It had to be.

Still, she couldn’t stop the tears and she held onto him tighter, carefully pressing her cheek to the top of his spiky blonde head for a moment. “Shut up, Naruto,” she sniffed softly, a tear falling into his hair. “Too late for apologies now. You did what you felt you needed to do. Even if it was stupid,” she murmured, her voice thick with emotion and trace amounts of fear as she continued helping him towards the apartment they shared with Sasuke.

Naruto had the gut-sinking feeling that he had lost, which made him feel even worse about all of it. "I'll kill him next time." But before that time came he knew he had to do something about the kyuubi's chakra. As invincible as he claimed himself to be, he knew better than to think he could keep going on like this in battle without thinking about the consequences. Jiraiya had warned him.

Jiraiya was hardly ever serious unless he was truly concerned.

Then, suddenly, Naruto remembered what it was he had been trying to do before he fought Orochimaru. "We gotta find Sasuke!"

“No! Naruto, you’re hurt. Stop playing the hero for once and let me take you home. I don’t think Sasuke-kun even knows Orochimaru is here yet. We have some time,” Sakura shook her head furiously. Jeez, Naruto was thinking about running off again to find Sasuke and he could barely walk. Idiot.

The two of them managed to reach the apartment building which luckily had an elevator. Still sniffing softly as they waited to reach their floor, Sakura glanced over at Naruto, studying his face. “Jeez, you’re heavy, Naruto. You need to lay off the ramen a bit,” she tried to joke, smiling weakly, though it hardly reached her eyes. The elevator stopped on their floor and she helped him out and down the hallway towards their apartment.

“And if you don’t let me take care of you, I’ll punch you and knock you out to make things easier,” she muttered, eyes burning from crying, arms weary from carrying him.

"Pfft... don't need you to... just need some sleep..." Naruto murmured, his lips drawing back into a weak smile after attempting and failing a nice guy pose. No good. "This sucks... As soon as I wake up--" Hot breath blew across the sensitive skin of her neck before he placed a tender kiss there. "--I'm so making this up to you."

He didn't have the strength not to tell her not to cry. It wouldn't have been a fair thing for him to say anyway. Making a promise to himself, he vowed not only that he'd never make her cry again, but also that he'd confront the Yondaime about all of this. He was the one that made the seal, he had to know something. Some way for him not to go off the deep end everytime he fought.

Feeling feverishly hot by then, Naruto felt his mind slowly following his body into shutdown land. And he began voicing his delirious thoughts. "I don't want to lose myself... just when I've found everyone... Sakura."

Frustrated with the lock on the apartment door, Sakura finally kicked it open and helped Naruto in, bumping it shut behind them with her slip hips. Gingerly she guided him into his room, shivering when he pressed a sweet kiss to her neck, making her feel better and worse all at the same time. Cursing under her breath at the new, hot tears forming in her eyes, Sakura carefully helped Naruto sit down on his bed, gently lying him down and pulling his feet up.

She removed his shoes and unzipped his tattered jacket, helping to adjust his head on the pillow before reaching for his hand and holding it between both of her own. “Sleep now. You’re not going anywhere, and neither am I,” she promised, lacing their fingers together and resting their entwined hands in her lap. She reached up with her free hand to wipe a smudge off of his chin before leaning down and pressing a kiss to his cheek. “Do you need anything?” she asked, arching a worried brow at him. He was starting to mumble and not make very much sense.

The moment his head hit the pillow, he felt worlds better. Being able to finally sink into a soft mattress was Heaven. Naruto chuckled softly at her question, squeezing her hand weakly. "Nope... got everything I need... right here." Minus Sasuke, but he was sure Sakura would take care of things while he was out or die trying. Knowing himself as he did, he might be out for a while, and a lot could happen in a while.

Bringing his arm up to shield his teary eyes from sight, he whispered, "Please... don't let Sasuke go anywhere... Sakura."

Before he could hear any response from her, Naruto fell the hardest he'd ever fallen into deep sleep.
