Summary; Cobray challenged Zaheela to a duel, mostly to prove he is worthy of Motoko. They fight. Cobray's long hard training pays off and he scores a draw.
Log; Zaheela wasn't quite sure of what to make of all this. Her head was spinning with the memories of what had happened, what could possibly happen... She was utterly confused to say the least. Her wounds had healed but she forced Eisen into a slow trot, taking the time taken to clear her head. The Temple loomed ahead and as she slid off Eisen's back, she took a deep breath. It was not the time for what ifs and what to do. She was here to fight... Though she had no real idea why she had accepted in the first place.
Sword clasped to her side and the thin, yet surprising strong armor hidden under her tunic, she strode proudly forward. Even though it was accepted on what seemed a whim, a duel was a duel, and she was not one to take back her word on such matters.
Cobray leaned back against the the system that he had built himself. He was still disappointed in himself from yesterday. He felt that he had let Motoko down. Lately, he didn't have any work that would keep his mind off of such matters. However, coming before him was the cause of some of his problems. He quickly patted his pockets to see if he had everything. He was dressed in his normal silver pilot suit which he wore everywhere. To be polite, he waved a greeted to Zaheela.
Zaheela froze as she saw Cobray greet her with a wave. She nodded her greeting before eying the structure. Eisen had been rather antsy, understanding that today he was to aide his master in a fight, but even he, a high class War mount, didn't quite like the look of the strange object they were about to enter.
“Are you prepared?” She questioned, knowing full well that she had easy access of her hidden dimensional pocket for when the battle started. "This is your last chance to retrieve anything you believe you may need."
"If I am missing something, I will retrieve it during the fight. Now if you will please follow me." He motioned toward the gate, which was glowing blue. He stepped through and the blue surface rippled. On the other side, he stuck his hand back through and motioned again.
Zaheela watched as Cobray disappeared into the strange machine and realized just how similar it was to the transportation circles of the Ru' Ann gardens and motioned for Eisen to follow after her. Stepping into the portal, she refused to close her eyes past half lidded as she found herself experiencing a shifting motion and then the surprising feeling of sand appearing below her feet. Suddenly she was glad that she had decided to bring Eisen along. The sand would normally pose a problem for her to effectively run upon, but Eisen was able to travel along the sands as if they were solid stone. No doubt Cobray would have an alternative way of moving however. She had to be careful.
She leapt onto Eisen's back, her black pants contrasting against his bright plumage as she drew out her blade, the dark metal shining brightly in the sun and the rubies glimmering proudly. She turned Eisen around and walked back the required pace and stood there for a moment, Eisen's antsy movements hardly phasing her. She had to remember to be careful... And with that, she directed Eisen towards the left.
Cobray watched closely. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a handful of silver pellets. She was going to have to charge sometime. Common sense dictated that. So he held the pellets, waiting for her attack.
Zaheela was not idle as she stood there, softly muttering a phrase as a shield of light appeared to bloom around her. Once the spell had taken it's effect, she leaned forward for Eisen to charge. She was at a disadvanage with being a large target, but she wasn't going to let it get the best of her.
Watching her charge, Cobray held his hand open. Using his telekenetic abilities, he made them float in the air. Once in contact with his own power, each the pellets changed into watery silvery kunai. He pushed them to quickly accelerate them forward, towards Zaheela.
Eisen was quick to react as his sharp eyes caught sight of the strange objects. He turned sharply, instinctively dodging the projectiles as Zaheela quickly too action and sheathed her sword and whisked out a silver plated harp from her hidden pocket, her fingers quickly adjusting and plucking out a tune, sending what looked to be a flash or distortion of sound, sending the directed song straight at her opponent.
Cobray saw the ripples in the air. An alarm went off in the back of his head from Astranagun. So he stepped backwards. A red demonic symbol opened up behind him and he transported himself out the the right of the attack. In retaliation, he pulled his laser pistol out of his pocket and fired 5 quick blasts.
Zaheela frowned as she saw the strange blasts of light as she quickly leapt straight up from Eisen's back, clearing an impressive distance for such a cramped position, but it was not enough. While three of the shots had missed entirely, only one had managed to hit the shielding spell she had placed up and the other scored directly on her right leg. The Burn was agonizing as she once again landed on Eisen's back, but she was almost like one on her mount and with a quick movement, both restored her harp and grabbed the hilt of her sword, all the while Eisen had charged forward towards Cobray, his speed impressively fast for a animal of his side. As they Eisen streaked by, head bent almost parallel to the ground, Zaheela took the chance to unsheathe her sword and swing her sword in a graceful downwards arc, her tail acting as a balance for the extreme movement.
It had only been less then a minute but already one of the three blows had been struck by the opponents. She now knew she couldn't underestimate this man.
Cobray dropped his pistol in the sand. Jumping to the side wasn't an option because she would just hop off and probably finish the fight. So he charged up his fist with green energy and attempted to grab the sword. He reached outwards and wrapped his right hand around but lost his grip completely. The blade dragged up his right arm, leaving an open wound the whole way across. When she passed by, Cobray realized he would probably have to fight lefthanded now.
Zaheela turned Eisen around to face Cobray, her face flashing in concern as she saw the long gash along his arm. She hadn't meant to do such extensive damage, aiming for the upper arm, but he had moved out the way. Perhaps after this battle, she would offer him some more magical assistance, but for now, she couldn't show mercy as she lead Eisen into a large circle. She couldn't risk resheathing her weapon, even if he was wounded, for it would leave her open, so she opted for another root. Holding her hand out in front of her, she muttered softly as Eisen continued to circle and suddenly flung her arm outwards.
“Light of Gods, Banish!” And with that a pillar of light appeared from the sky, aiming to strike downwards at Cobray.
Cobray was used to this type of attack. His own Dis Astranagun used something that seemed very similar to this. He decided to dash forward. He was slowed by the sands but he made it out of the way. What he needed was a sword. So while running he held his left arm straight out and his right hand close to his stomach.
"Extend. T-Link Sword."
In the sapce between his hands, a ball of green formed. It glowed brightly for a few minutes and then stretched out to for a wicked looking short sword. The whole sword was glowing green with no distinction between the hilt and the blade. He grabbed where the hilt would be with his left hand and prepared himself for the next attack.
Zaheela urged Eisen to charge forward, her body half lifting from her saddle before she suddenly lifted herself upwards, grabbing firmly onto the handle bars of Eisen's saddle and swung her foot at Cobray's head, her metal sollerts sure to do damage if this tricky maneuver hit. Placing all the force she could muster into the kick, she barely missed by an inch and cursed, flipping upwards into an arch and seating herself again before charging, aiming to land a blow on Cobray's left arm this time. She would disarm him and then this would all be over, or so she thought.
Cobray brought the glowing green sword up and used the flat of the blade to block her kick. He kept himself upright, pushed back with what might he had. Now was the time to make use of his reflexes and his ability to take part in midair manuevers. Before Zaheela could charge by, he used his damaged right arm to latch on to her leg. Then he placed his right leg on the side of the chocobo and pushed, hoping to drag her off her mount.
Eisen squacked as he left the uncomfortable weight of another on his back, moving to snap his sharp beak at the extra weight, but a look from Zaheela stopped him from following through and she leaned forward, lifting her left leg so that she slid easily from the chocobo's back but flung her body weight so that unless Cobray, with his weakened arm, let go, she would drag him to the ground with her. If he did let go, it would be easy for her to reposition herself to land in a half crouch, perfect for a lunging swipe. Her sword however was still suffering from inertia and left her open for a wound, if not shallow.
Cobray did let go of her leg, using the inertia to fling himself a ways away. He hit the ground with his right leg extended and his left crouched, allowing him to spin. He moved the sword to his right hand and threw it toward Zaheela during one of his spins. It stuck in the sand right beneath her legs and began to glow very brightly.
There was no time to react but to fling herself away towards to the left, but the reaction was quick. The green object exploded and sent her flying a distance away. She rolled in the sand, saved from more serious wounds due to the shielding spell and her own armor, left arm stung due to the burn. She snarled a feral snarl before leaping back into Eisen's back once again. Her expression was furious, and she obviously had something big planned, with the coils of Mana appearing to seep into her wounds. Natural healing could soothe the burns, but it would still take time, and she wasn't in the mood to wait.
Cobray smiled. One more hit and victory was his. All he needed to do was withstand her next attack and then get right up in her face so she couldn't swing her sword. He held his hand out infront of him and closed his eyes. He needed to concentrate so he he saw only through Astranagun's sensors.
Pity she wasn't about to let him do a god damn thing. She quickly bunched her legs and leapt into the air, the coils of pure mana still dancing around her arms, as she somehow managed to at least hover over the battke field. Eisen had taken off in a blur of red, but at least HE knew what was coming. Cobray did not.
“RAIN UPON JUDGEMENT AND SHATTER ARMOR! DIAGA!” As if waiting to strike, the air was filled with Hundreds needle thin bolts of light. The chances of at least one hitting were night, and she didn't feel like playing nice as she watched the light streak down. Knowing full well this only counted as one blow, she would NOT let this... this little HUMAN beat her over. Her pride wouldn't allow it!
Cobray had spent his time preparing to strengthen his nendou field. He was happy he did so. Cobray smiled when the bolts of light first began to reflect off the field. Quickly it turned into a frown. One came through but missed. However, the entrace of one signaled dozens penetrating through. He was hit at least 7 times. It burned oh so badly. Enough to drop him to his knees. He had to stop for a moment to catch his breath through his clenched teeth.
Zaheela, however, wasn't in the mood to wait. She wanted this battle to end, and end it quickly. Once she had landed, she sprung forward, her sword almost glowing as she raised to strike his arm for the final blow. Her eyes appeared almost glazed with killer instinct, and she was snarling.
There she was, almost on top of him. Cobray had one more ace up his sleeve. He might not be able to win, but he was going to take her with him. He dug a small stick out of his pocket. Out of the end, a blade extended outwards. Sparks ran up and down the blade as the machine cells struggled to reproduce. It formed itself into a longsword, which he thrust toward her stomach.
Far too easy for a warrior such as herself, she easly parryed the blow and pushed the longsword back, her snarling still persisting as moved to elbow him on the side of the face, her sword raised to follow with a downward stroke meant to sever one's neck from torso.
Cobray had to prove himself. He was going to win this fight, even if it seemed like he was cheating. He opened a wormhole and stuck his sword directly into it. The blade came out right in front of her neck at the same time her blade was coming down. He had already died before in this city so he was ready to die again. If she did fully slash all the way through, her own throat would be slit from his blade.
Even if Zaheela was aiming to murder the young man, she knew a blade at her throat when she felt one. It's metal edge bit into the tender flesh but her own blade was eagerly drawing blood from her opponent's neck. She frowned as she realized they had come to a draw.
"It seems that both of us are well matched..." She growled, her voice rough with rage. Eisen watched from distance away. He had been confused when his master told him not to bite the man. Why not? he didn't know!
"...you called me a human earlier. I am no human." Cobray stood up and wiped the blood from his neck. "However, you are a good fighter. There is a man from my universe named Zengar. He would probably be pleased to meet you if he was ever in this city."
"Praytell why?" Zaheela questioned as she swung her sword in a powerful downward swing to fling any blood that may of accumilated onto her blade. Her eyebrows were raised, but then she smiled and offered her hand.
"It was a good fight. It was an honor fighting against you." She said, a gentle smile on her face. "I have some skill with the healing arts in this form if you wish my assistance?"
Cobray gave her one of his rare smiles. "I come from a planet called Balmar. I am a Balmarian." He waved off the help she offered. "No thank you. I can handle myself. Being a Timediver allows me o do things beyond what normal people can do."
"A time diver? How can one effectly do such?" Suddenly her burns announces that they were not happy with being ignored and she covered it gingerly with one hand, encouraging her magic to cool and heal the wound.
"Perhaps I shall ask another time. For now we should head back before anyone notices..." She said with a sigh.
Cobray stopped in his tracks. The thought of Tsunade ran across his mind. She probably already knew. "I'm sorry, but I won't be able to escort you back." He leapt forward into another wormhole which dropped in directly into his room. He laid there and played innocent, hoping Tsunade would not catch on.
Zaheela blinked before shrugging and climbing onto Eisen's back and pleading for him to be gentle. As they entered the transporter, Zaheela smiled. It had been a good fight...
