Shoes tapping lightly across the beautifully tiled floor, a mesmerized gaze drifting over the elaborate decorations. Aya's eyes were wide with awe, her mouth open slightly as she'd never seen such a beautiful piece of architecture before this. She never was able to travel very often, so to her, this was a privilege. "So this is the Cathedral... it's more than I ever thought one would look like…"
Aya held up her hands to let her finger tips graze gently against the soft, lush velvet of burgundy curtains, and she smiled. “It’s almost too beautiful..”
In stark contrast to most, Kadaj took no immediate interest in the Cathedral's interior. He looked more dazed than anything else with a strange light in his eyes as he stumbled in. His gaze roved the near empty expanse, seeking answerers he would not get as he stalked along.
This place…it reminded him of something. Something he did not like. His eyes narrowed at the faint recollection, a place to which he could not return. Kadaj looked for the nearest person and headed toward her. He wanted to know where the hell he was, and now.
In mid-breath, she caught something moving quickly out of the corner of her eye and turned quickly to catch the movements. A sharp pain suddenly gripped her upper arm, and now facing the man who had been walking at her, he seemed rather disturbed. She managed to croak a small cry of anguish. “..Ugn..What.. do you want..?! Le- Let go of me!!” and tried her best to struggle from his harsh grasp.
Of course, Kadaj no intention of doing such a thing. Not after doing to the trouble of getting her attention. His grip did not relax and he watched her with his odd eyes almost too intently. "Where is this? What is this place?" Kadaj's face was probably a bit too close to hers for comfort in light of the situation but when his mind was on one thing the rest did not matter.
His breath was hot on her cheeks, drying her eyes so she had to blink more often to be able to see clearly. Even so, she cringed, pulling back on his intense clutch and straining her arm though it would do her no good.
What was WITH people suddenly asking her for all the answers? “I.. I don’t know!!” Another quick struggle, but to no avail. “I just got here a few days ago myself!”
"Where IS here?" He remained unaffected by her reaction, mind still set on answers. Kadaj didn't seem to care that the girl was clearly upset by his actions. His mind was still focused on getting answers. Until that was accomplished he didn't care how she acted.
“I said.. I DON’T KNOW.” Aya glared at him with her narrowed hazel eyes, and heart beating rapidly. “All I know is that there’s a bunch of us here.. from different worlds.. and we’re all STUCK. Just calm down and I can try to explain more..!!” She clenched her other hand tightly into a small ball of a fist and launched it towards the crazy man’s pale face, hoping to release herself even the tiniest bit from his staggering grip.
Kadaj's expression didn't even flicker, free hand catching hers. She didn't intimidate him in any way, if that was what he had tried to accomplish. In some sense he didn't get just why he was upsetting her or how much so. He just watched her face somewhat passively as she ranted at him as though she spoke some foreign language. "Me calm down? That's funny."
Somehow his urgent calmness still made her uneasy, and she gulped hard, still staring him in the eye. “Fine, then. From what I’ve learned, almost everyone is trying to find their way out, but the ones who do get to leave are few. What else do you want to know…??” she still snarled at him – Aya hadn’t felt this angry since Kagami tried to.. well, let’s not think about that.
A familiar pang of stress rang out in her chest, but cringing once more, she tried to hold the feeling back. Ceres, just wait… not yet, not yet!
"Is that so? You don't know all that much, now do you?" Kadaj smirked, an expression that came with odd ease on his features. He'd have been strangely pretty if he wasn't scaring this girl so much with his attitude. Still yet he didn't move. "So what do we do in this place? Do you know that?"
“Didn’t I just say that..??” This guy is really wiggin’ out, and Aya wasn’t about to cross him more than she had to. Especially if Ceres was reacting this much – but Aya had promised, and she couldn’t bear to break it yet.
She sighed heavily, her brows still furrowed and eyes focused on the strange man’s face. “All we can do is find a way out – there’s millions of doors in this place to check. In the meantime, there are people to meet, and places to see… which was exactly what I was DOING until you ambushed me.” Aya tried once more to release herself, and thought for a just a moment that maybe his grip loosened.
Well that seemed about all he could expect of this girl. Kadaj let her go abruptly, though he hadn't expected her to fall on the floor when he did. He gave her a slightly curious look but didn't really move to help her up. Instead he stood there and watched her in silence for several moments. "...Not very graceful, are you?"
Aya hit the floor with a loud “Oof!” and skidded a few inches on the smooth tile. “Augh.. whatever,” she retorted, and got up to kneel and examine her skid marks. Nothing too bad, since the floor was relatively smooth.
Brushing herself off, she stood back up straight and frowned, crossing her arms. “So how did you get here…?? Maybe there’s some clues in the events of that happening on how to get you back.”
"...How I got here?" Kadaj tilted his head slightly, silver hair falling over his face for a moment before he turned, taking a few strides along the marble floor and listening to the resonant clicks that resulted. He smiled slightly like a cat toying with a mouse might before about-facing and looking at her again. "I was killed, and what happened then, I just don't know."
I can see why! Aya smirked inwardly to herself. She was a little calmer now, but watched his movements closely so not to be caught off-guard again. Rubbing her arm where he had grabbed her seemed to sooth the pain some. She just hoped Yuuhi wouldn’t see a bruise – if there was one – Aya didn’t want him to worry more about her.
Well, no idea what else to say about that. Let’s get back to basics… “So, you never told me your name. I don’t think you want me to refer to you as the ‘crazy, pale guy that attacked me in the Cathedral’, ne?”
This was rewarded with another smirk. "Oh, you'd bother with such a long title then? How flattering."
"Why not? Or I could just dub you 'moron', but I'm a little too nice for that even though you practically cut the circulation off my arm.. " She placed one hand on her hip in return with his demenor.
"And I could name you any number of unpleasant things as well." Kadaj countered evenly, not at all affected by the labels she threatened him with. He simply regarded her with that odd serenity still longer. Anything short of mentioning his brothers would garner little now that he had some of his bearings. "I am Kadaj, if it means so much."
Starting to get the jist of his ways, she nodded stoically. "Good to know. And good luck finding your way out." She flipped a lock of hair back over her shoulder with her good arm and put it back on her hip.
"Though, here's a few pointers on the city: if you aren't in company of another person, the ticking clock of the carousel will follow you everywhere, and eventually drive you crazy. There's also a lot of strange people everywhere - even worse than you, I think - so watch your back...." Her gaze drifted to the cavernous ceiling of the building, listening to her own voice echo eerily through the hall, as if it had some answer to who could possibly be lurking in the shadows.
Without much mind to how she might respond and with inhuman speed Kadaj had drawn Souba, twin blades glinting in the light. This was his response to being told to watch his back. Kadaj needed no warnings from this girl and he certainly was not weak. The weapon was pointed directly at her for several moments as he remained silent, tempered steel nearly touching her. Though, it was not his intent to do more than demonstrate that he was armed.
Aya jumped back suddenly at the sound of metal swooping through the air, and finding the shining tips right near neck. Her eyes were wide once more with surprise, and again felt the twinge of Ceres’ presence in her mind, only to hold back the restless being inside her once more.
"…O-okay, I get your point..!" Man, she really needed to get away from here.
Kadaj sheathed the weapon again with the same strange speed, stepping up to Aya and looking at her arm. She certainly bruised easily, he noted with minor amusement. However she had been helpful in her own way so he supposed he would repay her assistance, however minor. After all it did seem to cause her some discomfort. So he grabbed her arm again--but not as hard--and something in his left arm glowed.
Aya jumped again, like a cat being startled, and began to stutter. “What.. what are you doing to me..?! Why are you glowing?!” Panic set in, and another futile struggle to get away. “Touy- Yuuhi?! Where are you..?! Please, please don’t kill meeee~!” Her eyes shut tightly, not only to keep from watching what seemed like her eminent death, but to restrain Ceres – this was just too much. I don’t know if I can hold her back any more..!
He ignored her, holding on a moment longer before the glow in his arm died down. Once the light vanished completely Kadaj withdrew his hand to show a now unharmed arm, gloved hand dropping back at his side. He didn't really think of something to say to her whining, taking a good step back and looking over his work somewhat. At least spells worked the same. "Do all people here complain so loudly when healed?"
Surprised at his question, she glanced quickly at her arm and gasped. Her bruise was gone! “You.. you healed me…??” Aya switched her gaze from her arm, to Kadaj, and back to her arm again in a daze. “That.. that is too cool,” bringing her arm up to her face to examine it closely.
Despite their earlier experience together, maybe this guy wasn’t as bad as he seemed. After all, a truly bad guy wouldn’t just heal her like that… would he? Aya turned her face to him and smiled happily. “..Thank you! It’s amazing.. how did you do that?”
He blinked at her, somewhat puzzled and almost insulted. This girl was quite strange. Kadaj had never met someone who was so greatly impressed with a simple cure spell. There were children who could do that with little effort. "That's the most simple of spells. You expect I couldn't do it?"
Aya blinked back at him with disbelief and a small blush crept to her cheeks. “N-no… In my world, we don’t have ‘spells’ to cast. Though, I’m an unusual case... I have a power of a different sort.” And she brought one of her hands over her chest, signifying her existing alter ego. Not that Kadaj would understand, of course.
"What a strange place..." Kadaj thought aloud, wondering at what sort of world this girl came from. He didn't really understand what she meant about some power that she didn't show and that he couldn't pick up on. For a moment he'd watched her as though he might do something before deciding she wasn't going to do whatever it was that she could do. "At rate I suppose there are other things I should do. Fiding a place to go for instance." He ignored the warning about being alone. His brothers weren't here after all.
“Alright, I guess I’ll be seeing you around then. It was nice meeting you, Kadaj.. I think.” She raised her healed arm and gave a shy little wave.
"If everyone reacts like you I may have trouble finding out where to go." He sighed the words, already heading for the door. Kadaj held up a hand in a neutral wave. Even if she didn't know any spells and made a lot of noise she was okay. He only spoke again after he'd pushed the doors open to leave. "Next time you'll have to say your name."
