The first ebbs of consciousness stirred Yumichika, and he very slowly opened his eyes. For a moment he thought he'd gone blind, but then he realized it was simply just that dark out. The digital clock somewhere in the haziness read 12:04 AM. Was it really that late? Why had he been asleep anyway? The last thing he remembered was yelling at Ikkaku for—

Ah. That's right.

Yumichika pulled himself off the couch, very awake now that he'd remembered exactly what had knocked him unconscious. Ikkaku's head. The dumbass had gone so far as that in order to get the bed all to himself! Well. Yumichika certainly had something to say about that. Disregarding his tousled hair and crumpled clothes, the fifth seat stormed over to the bedroom door and pushed it open, then went right up to the side of the bed and promptly kicked his friend off the mattress. The deed complete, he slipped under the covers and settled down contentedly.

The heavy footfalls on the floor of the apartment caused Ikkaku to stir, groggily turning over to open his eyes before the world seemed to spin. With the thud that sounded as he hit the floor, he was fully awake and reaching for Hozukimaru before it dawned on him what had happened. "The hell, Yumichika!?" He sat upright quickly, peering over the side of the bed at his friend. After a moment of glaring he moved to rectify the situation and reclaim his place, but as he did he caught sight of something out of the corner of his eye.

With a grin, he grabbed the pillow beside the one Yumichika was using and delivered a good thwack to the other shinigami's head. "Get back to the couch, asshole."

The undamaging if irritating attack on Yumichika's person snapped his eyes open. Face contorted in annoyance, he twisted around and snatched at the pillow that had become Ikkaku's weapon of choice. "No way! I kicked you off the bed fair and square, so I get to claim it as my own."

That said, he stuck his tongue out at his friend, pulled the nearest pillow underneath his head, and turned back around to sleep.

He narrowed his eyes at Yumichika's back, taking in the situation, weighing his options. That was how it was gonna be? Fine by him. He climbed onto the bed and slid his arm around the disheveled fifth seat's waist, hoisting him over his shoulder and carrying him out to the living room, where he was unceremoniously dumped back on the couch. "All yours tonight, Yumichika." He said, flashing a triumphant grin before turning to make his way back into the bedroom.

Yumichika was already falling into a pleasant slumber when he was lifted clear off the bed. Eyes snapping open again, limbs flailing, he barely had time to react as he found himself on the couch again. Quickly, before Ikkaku could disappear into the bedroom, the fifth seat grabbed a throw pillow off the couch and launched it at the back of his friend's head with all of his might. Immediately afterwards, he got up and flash-stepped to the bedside, bending down to pick up Ikkaku's discarded pillow off the floor.

Recovering from a momentary daze, Ikkaku grabbed the pillow that had hit him in the back of the head, standing straight only to find Yumichika already in front of him and armed. He narrowed his eyes, wielding the throw pillow as he approached the fifth seat slowly. Important matters had to be dealt with carefully, and this was no ordinary fight. He faked to the right before making a dash to the left, claiming the bed, the high ground and the greater stash of pillows for his own.

But no, that feint didn't fool Yumichika; having fought alongside his friend for over a century now, he knew the third seat's fighting style, even when the prize was the bed for the night. Yumichika lunged for the bed, throwing his pillow right at Ikkaku's head, then quickly snatching up another one to follow up with a beatdown.

"Take that!" he nearly cackled, lips twisted into a grin, as the pillow came down once—twice on Ikkaku.

Ikkaku couldn't help but laugh between hits -- between because they weren't exactly light, Yumichika was stronger than he looked -- scrambling to block the assault with one arm while his free hand groped along the side of the bed for another pillow. He finally managed to grab hold of one, bringing it up to block Yumichika's third attack.

"Give it up, I ain't gonna lose this one." He grinned back from behind the two pillows.

A stalemate. Not exactly what Yumichika had in mind, not when he was set on getting the bed for himself. He narrowed his eyes, sizing up the situation, trying to calculate the best possible way to counter and claim his victory.

Finally, with a devious grin and a simple, "Well neither am I," Yumichika wrenched Ikkaku's pillow from his hands and tossed it over his shoulder. With a final swat, the fifth seat dropped right there atop his friend and curled up contentedly. The only way Ikkaku could win in this case is if he carried him to the couch again, and that wasn't going to happen. Not if Yumichika could help it.

Blinking, Ikkaku took in the situation for a moment before resigning with a chuckle. He reached up to snake his arm around Yumichika's waist, rolling over so that they were both resting on their sides. "Guess that works, too." He mumbled, leaning down to a press a kiss to mussed dark blue hair.

"'Night."

Yumichika nestled closer and buried his face in the crook of Ikkaku's neck, a pleased smile on his lips. Sometimes, he reasoned, all of their bickering and fighting was worth the effort. "Good night."
