Ptolemy sat in a comfortably padded chair near an open window, surrounded by tall and short stacks of papers weighted down by whatever makeshift paperweights could be found in the flat. They covered every surface within an arm's length away: the arms of the recliner, his lap, a little end table, and the floor. One in particular had all his attention as he wrote his thoughts down clearly and carefully, in a script unreadable to most in the City.

He paused a moment, searching his mind for a phrase. The glow of a nearby lamp lit the dim room just enough that he didn't strain his eyes as he wrote. As Ptolemy thought, he pulled tighter around his shoulders a heavy blanket, keeping out the day's chill. Though he didn't find the current temperature to his liking, the scents brought in with the fresh breeze were worth a few extra layers.

Kitty's offhand suggestion that he try writing in the living room someday had been a good one. Today had seemed ideal, since both she and Rekhyt were currently absent from the flat, and he would not need to anticipate many interruptions for the time being. He was finding the change of space helpful, if for no reason beyond the fact that there were new things to stare at when his pen faltered.

It never did for long, and having found the words he desired, he lost himself again in long explanations of facets of the Other Place and its great importance. Lost himself so thoroughly, in fact, that he wouldn't have immediately noticed if, say, Kitty had entered through the unlocked door and begun to tear the rest of the room to shreds.
