Summary: Doc's going to give Knives a physical. In the not-dirtiest of fashions.
Log:

Doc puttered around in his lab. There were things to be doing with the Deus Ex Machina II, but they could wait with this fascinating opportunity on the table.

Instead, process data from the weekend's fight, surf the communication network, work on a new fertilizer for his babies, print out a new recipe for Sauerbraten, and write out his plans for a new cattle prod that would recharge in part from the electrical/nervous system of living beings it was used on.

All at once.

This should be interesting. He would have to show this "Knives" person his cabbages, if he seemed like the sort who would understand.

"Gentlemen, if you would follow me, the lab is right down here. Forgive the cramped conditions, but our new home is still under construction."

Knives followed the Major down the corridor, his eyes roaming to take in and memorize as much of his surroundings as possible. He could feel Legato at his heels, a comfortable presence in a foreign territory. He just wished this would be over soon; he didn't want to stay any longer than necessary.

Even though Knives-sama said these people were allies, Legato didn't trust them in the least.

There were too many dark areas-- perfect places for someone to be lurking for an ambush.

If this was anywhere but this City, an ambush by humans, even vampires, would be anything but a problem.
But this was different.

Doc perked up at the flash on his monitor, damping the alert before going to the heavy door and pulling it open to admit his - odd to use the term - guests.

"Major. I'm ready for you." He gave the other two a smile from behind the many lenses of his glasses and pulled the door further open to admit the three.

The Major nodded and entered, his two guests presumably following.

"Herr Knives, Herr Bluesummers, may I present the Doktor. Dok, this is Herr Knives and Herr Bluesummers."

Knives tilted his head slightly at the doctor. Right away he knew he didn't like the man simply from how... unconventional he seemed. The plant had known and depended on other doctors in the past, but this? This was absurd.

"A pleasure, I'm sure," he said dryly, not feeling the exact sentiments as his gaze travelled around the room. The interior certainly fit the strange man's profession.

Hearing Knives greet this "Doc" in an almost-friendly manner let Legato know that he had to keep up appearances and act like he wasn't ready to rip them to pieces if they were to blink the wrong way.

All he could allow himself to say was, "Doctor."

He certainly didn't care for the disregard of humility these people had for the master.

Doc nodded to the arrivals and closed the door behind them. This was Doc's lair, and the panic button on his remote would do more than turn on flashing red lights.

Despite that, he wasn't pleased to have free individuals in his sanctum, but what the Major wanted, Doc provided.

Besides - sentient plant! It was fantastic!

"Mr. Knives. The Major tells me you have some reason to want my services?"

The Major held up a hand. "Doc, Doc. We mustn't forget our courtesies as hosts. Can I get either of you two anything? Food? Drink?"

Knives held up his hand in protest. "It's perfectly fine. We have already eaten, thank you." This was true. It was also true that Knives would never accept food or drink from someone other than a close associate. The Major and the people in his organization were nothing of the sort.

He turned instead to the doctor. "The City's power limit. I'm sure you're familiar with it. I am willing to offer you the challenge of removing it, either some or all."

Legato almost appreciated the offer the Major gave. But it very well could have been a trick or worse.

He had a diffucult time consealing his surprise at Knives-sama's statement.

He knew that his master wanted this hinderance removed from his body, but he didn't know he wanted it completely removed from the City.
How did he expect this human to manage that?
Maybe this was his way of saying he wanted Legato's handicap removed as well.

Doc was just as pleased that they'd declined the offer. He was ill-accustomed to entertaining in this environment and far preferred not to have contaminants like food or beverage in his lab.

The Major was an exception to all things, of course.

He tilted his head at Knives, absently reaching to his keyboard with one hand to type in a sequence of seemingly meaningless letters for anyone paying attention. "You want me to study and remove the City's power limit? Or the power limit the City placed on you?"

How he loathed English and its imprecision. Another sign of this City's need to burn that they used it as the lingua franca.

The Major stepped slightly to the side. "I suspect he means the power limit the City has placed on him," he said. "At least, this was the impression I had in our conversation."

"Exactly," the plant said with a nod, folding his hands behind his back. He was itching to test his blade. "Though I'm sure that if you were successful, you could in turn use that knowledge to remove the limit from other individuals."

He kept his eyes on Doc, though he continued to muse about reversing the experiment to further suppress powers. He really wished he had his own doctor.

"Since you are, as the Major tells me, something I have not encountered before, I won't make any promises for this first meeting," Doc said, picking up a tablet computer and making a few notes. "And I will need to conduct a thorough examination, you are aware of this, yes?"

"That is fine." Knives was used to plant doctors, but this was a whole new place where no one but a select few even knew what a plant was, so he would have to settle for their terms.

"Just direct me as you would." He refrained from saying normally, as he was quite certain this wouldn't be the case.

Legato shifted uncomfortably and clenched his fists behind his back.
He knew that this was going to happen, but that didn't keep him from hating the concept of someone who knew nothing of plants of Knives-sama's magnitude prodding around and experementing with his master.

For now, he would have to bite his toungue and allow this.

Doc would far prefer to do things as he usually did. It would require less time-wasting politeness.

He drew a curtain aside from a (surprisingly) clean examination area and patted the exam table there. "If you'll remove everything except your pants, I'll start with the less invasive aspects of this."

Vivisection was so much more fun though.

Oh well, another time.

The Major smiled. Unlike the other three, he was actually enjoying himself.

"I apologize for the invasiveness of any of our procedures," he said, genially, "But we know so little about your base state, indeed, your species as a whole, that we must be as thorough as possible."

Knives made his way to the examination table, removing shirt and jacket and any other articles of clothing—except pants, of course. He moved with no hesitation, not at all feeling exposed. After all, it's not like he needed clothes to defend himself.

"I understand," he replied to the Major, seating himself on the table.

Legato understood as well. He also understood that if they found out all of what he was capable of, they may see him as a threat and turn on him.

He read Knives-sama's brief glance as a "Stay calm" gesture, and did that as best he could.

Doc had precisely zero bedside manner and began to work with little more than the fewest words possible to move Knives as needed.

Simple things first, starting with those that didn't require so much as touching the subject - photographs, thermal readings, x-ray. Easy enough.

Blood and tissue samples next.

It started routinely enough, at least based on his previous experiences with doctors. There was nothing extraordinary about a check-up.

He hoped.

This had better work, he mused as he watched Doc tinker with whatever instruments he needed. He noted with a quick glance at the other two a cryptic stoicism in Major's face and evident distress in Legato's eyes. Knives' brow furrowed in the slightest glare directed at his servant, then returned his attention to Doc.

Legato's concern began to slowly dissapate. He had seen doctors examin the master in this manner before.
He wondered if this doctor should know about what happened to the other doctor who had withheld information from Knives.

"I don't suppose," Doc muttered while he worked, as much for himself as for Knives, "that I could get some brain tissue?"
