Sarah waited patiently at the fountain, humming softly to herself as she waited for the Count to come to their agreed meeting spot. She had picked out her most appealing dress and had even taken the pains to make herself look more presentable than usual. Being taken on a friendly walk by a count mean a lot to someone like Sarah. Her family had been scorned and hated for years and it was only young men who were the sons of successful farmers who felt the need to rebel against their family that had doted on her. Vladislaus, however, was a noble, and that meant that he was far more suited to courting her than any other man probably had.
She stifled a mad giggle, unable to picture the envious looks on her sister's faces if they were in the City. They should have known I would come out on top, she thought to herself, adjusting her bodice at the last minute, wondering when her suitor would appear out of the suffocating darkness.
