WHEN; June 13th, fairly late at night.
WHERE; Hot springs, Kurogane’s room.
RATING; ‘A’ for Awwww~?
CHARACTERS; Fai {[livejournal.com profile] fooolery} & Sakura {[livejournal.com profile] un_recall}.
SUMMARY; After the mage’s unexpected arrival to the City yesterday, he caught a cold and ever since then, the princess has insisted upon looking after him.
LOG;

FAI; So, he wasn’t really lying when he told everyone he was still sick.

Being confined to one room for hours and hours and hours on end had driven a certain Fai to a bit of cooped up madness last night at least, where he had unfortunately made acquaintances with a particular computer device and had spent a better portion of the evening doing what was supposedly known as ‘hacking’ into somebody else’s journal. To be frank, which he always tried never to be unless beyond drunk or otherwise, he still had a bit of a lagging cold since he had been sniffling all day and forced to sleep the sickness off, a task he was more than happy to comply with if it meant successfully avoiding the other two.

"Hyuuu~" Yawning a bit lazily, the mage rolled back onto his stomach within a cocoon of blankets and stretched skinny limbs out like a pleased cat before he settled back down with a sigh, glad of the fact that nobody had told him he had to get up and face the world, just yet.

SAKURA; Sakura wandered around the house wondering if there was anything that needed to be done. Watanuki-san was always busy and despite his constant reassurance that he could handle everything by himself, she was determined to lighten his load. After all, he was a lot like some super man, walking up everyday to cook, clean, and tons of other things that she couldn't even contemplate.

It looked as there was no help needed around the house so she decided to do the next best thing, check up on Fai-san. Her happiness at his arrival was slightly tainted with worry for his health. He was sick, that was plain to see. The mage had been sleeping a lot as well. What had they all been doing after that whole incident to get them so exausted? Kurogane-san seemed fine, after all. Eri padded softly behind her as she got more tissue and a new bag for the waste basket, the one in use seemed to have filled to the brim with used tissues. She really hoped that Fai was alright, at least it looked like he was getting better?

The thought was reassuring.

FAI; There were a lot of productive things he could have been doing to help around this place, but every one of them entailed that he should leave the room, and that wasn’t going to happen soon, unless it meant making up another lie. So he stayed put, muffling light chuckles into the sheets now and then at the amusing thought of having hogged the ninja’s bed for at least a day now. Guess everything hadn’t been a complete waste, really.

It took a good minute or two longer than Fai would have preferably liked to realize that somebody was heading toward the room again, maybe to check on him to at least make sure he hadn’t escaped yet, and by the pleasantly soft footsteps upon wooden floors he quickly recognized them to be Sakura’s, who had insisted upon looking after him ever since his unexpected arrival yesterday. As was to be expected, the mage proceeded to bury his ruby red flushed nose into the blankets and curled up even further beneath them, pretending to sleep with a more deeply slowed breath, knowing full well that the princess would see past his act.

She always did, and it made his heart warm just a bit more, despite his frown.

SAKURA; Stumbling into the doorway, she was relieved to find her friend still sleeping...at least he looked like he was still sleeping. The princess took a moment to rest on the doorframe before doing anything else. Really, when had the hallway gotten so long, and walking so tough? That one leg really did make a difference. Limping had never been so exausting.

Eri let out a small yip of concern and the girl responded with a small reassuring laugh to show that she was fine. Pushing off the door frame, she went to Fai's bedside and placed a fresh box of tissues under the box half-used. The girl then quickly changed the wastebasket and was done. She let out a sigh of accomplishment. There, now when Fai-san woke up he wouldn't have to worry about running out of tissues! With that, she turned towards the bed and bent over the bed, she reached over the blankets to find the mage's forehead hidden under blond curls. Lightly placing her hand on his forehead, so as not to awaken him, she checked his temperature.

Normal.

It looked like the fever was gone for good. Lifting her hand she smiled softly, a weight lifted off her heart. Fai-san was fine.

FAI; It was getting consistently more difficult to lie to the girl, if out of any of the other traveling companions, lately. And the mage could only bring himself to listen to her padding about the room a bit heavily due to her leg, each weighty sound of that particular foot against the floor mirroring each guilty thump of his heart, a blush crossing over the bridge of his nose even as the girl’s hand ghosted across his forehead, checking to see if his fever had gone down. Now that gesture took everything of Fai’s wavering resolve not to reach out and gently cup her cheek, apologize to her for what he’d done, do something other than curl back up into the blankets like the coward that he’d always been meant to be.

That’s just what he did too, swallowing thickly to keep from speaking aloud and breaking the promise that he had made to keep the rest of them safe, to keep from hurting them even more than he already was. But it was difficult, even as the mage’s single blue gaze softened as it shifted just slightly from underneath the heavy sheets to blink lazily at the princess hovering over him, inexplicably drawn to her.

As always.

SAKURA; Getting off the bed, onto wobbly feet, she finally realized just how tired she was. She yawned slightly as she made her way to one of the two mats laid out in the room. There was one for Kurogane-san, since it was the ninja's bed that was being used, and one for herself, so she could help watchover Fai when she had free time, and just so she could be there for him when he woke up.

Plopping down on the mat, she laid down, turning to her side so she would be facing Fai, that way if he needed anything she'd be able to get up quickly and go in the right direction as well. The wolf pup trotted into her hold and she quickly fell asleep, Eri following suit soon after.

FAI; And Fai simply watched her, fascinatingly captivated by the sight of a person actually caring about him without rhyme or reason, even after everything that had happened because of him. Because of the cowardly nature he had always been doomed to exude. If he were honest at least once, the mage would give in to the strong desire to protect the princess as best as he possibly could, and may even have told her about how large a part of his heart she already held within her tiny hands.

But he’d never truly felt like this before, only a very, very long time ago where the memories had begun to grow dark about the edges from the dust of having locked them away for so many years, and that was precisely why he held back, away from the two children. They wouldn’t like what lay beneath all the vague smiles he offered every day, not at all, so why force them into such a danger?

He refused quite adamantly, even as badly as the mage’s heart yearned to reach out to each of them, to seek comfort and something deeper, more lasting. ". . Sakura," Fai murmured quietly under his breath, finally sitting up as the warm blankets were suddenly tossed over the sleeping princess, gently tucking them around her small form and simply watching over her protectively, for it was the only way he could express what he had no words for. While she slept.
