Ran had been running around this strange city for what seemed like hours. "I cant find my hatchi and i am soooo hungery". her school girl uniform was getting hot she she took off the sweater that coeverd her long sleaved white button up and thanked god that her skirt was so short.  Her stumic growled to emphisis her hunger. 'where the hell am I?!" she protested as her legs gave way and she landed on her knees and butt, no graceful pose for one wearing at skirt at all, but at lest she had her legs togeather.. She started to cry, "where is my presious Hatchi!"

Archer had taken another trip into the city for some more books on architecture. He had no problem building the house strong enough to stand, it was just knowing what to make it look like that he struggled with. He already had a stack of books with examples, but it never hurt to have more.

Rounding the corner of one of the streets, Archer tensed as he heard someone crying. Looking down the street a bit, he saw a girl sitting on the ground, crying for some "Hatchi" thing.

Since she didn't appear in any immediate physical danger, Archer approached cautiously. She appeared to be about the same age as Hotaru, so she was somewhere around 16.

"Can I help you miss?" Archer asked hesitantly, glancing around to see if she was maybe part of a group, but no one was nearby.

Ahhh, a newcomer to the City, Archer thought. That explained why she was in such a state. Arriving in the City could definitely throw you for a loop even if you were used to strange things happening to you. On top of that, it sounded like the girl was about to die of starvation.

"You're are in the City," Archer said, offering her a hand. "I would be happy to explain all that is over some food if you would like."

Archer almost stumbled back at the overeagerness of the girl. One moment she had been crying, the next she was practically leaping with joy. She was definitely a bit of a spaz, but she seemed to be genuinely nice as well.

"Yes, is it called the City, capital C," he told her. "I'll explain it all over some food. There is a good ramen place not too far from here if you think you can make it."

"My name is Archer," he said, reaching out to shake her hand. He was pleasantly surprised at how firm her grip was. She may be small but she definitely wasn't weak.

"It's nice to meet you Ran. Don't worry about saving money, you will find that it's rather easy to pay for things in the City," Archer told her. That was still something he as getting used to, it felt wrong to pay for a meal with some lint.

"But we'll talk about that over some food," he added, starting to walk towards the restaurant. "You sound like you could really use some food."

Archer walked in silence as the girl chattered on, more than happy to not have to interject into her conversation. He was not exactly a people person, nor was he good with conversation. So if Ran wanted to talk on and on he was more than happy to let her.

Unfortunately, as much as she talked, she was not so rude as to only talk about herself. When she asked him to talk about himself, the white haired man pursed his lips in thought. How the hell did he explain who he was?

"There is not much to tell really," he said. "I lost my memory shortly before coming to the City a second time. Currently I love in an apartment nearby with my..." Archer paused for a moment, trying to think of what Hotaru was exactly. Girlfriend seemed too... juvenile, but he supposed that's what it was. "With my girlfriend."

"Her name is Hotaru," Archer said. He normally might not have been so free with information about himself but he could tell that the girl had no bad intentions. She merely seemed curious.

"And fortunately for me, she is nothing like me," he added, which was true. Hotaru was very nearly the opposite of himself. "I'm sorry that it seems that your boyfriend is not here with you. Perhaps your stay here will not be long. Ahhh, here is the restaurant."

Archer reached out and opened the door for the girl. She seemed impatient and hungry enough she might tear the thing off its hinges if it didn't open fast enough.

Archer glanced over the options that the man behind the counter offered. Being an amateur chef himself, Archer was rather picky about what he ate at places like this. He always had to resist the urge to go back into the kitchen and experiment with the dishes himself.

"Just some egg drop soup," he said, figuring that would probably be the safest thing. "And a generous tip if it all comes fast. The young lady is rather hungry."

Archer gave a low chuckle at the man's comment about not needing to tip. However, the ex-Servant was not one to pay for hurried service with lint from his pocket.

"Much appreciated," he told the man. Reaching into his pocket, Archer pulled out a lump of rock. Focusing his energy on it Archer opened up his magic circuit, transforming the rock into a gold coin. It was no more valuable than the rock in the City, but it was hard to give up old ways.

Glancing over he saw that the girl was devouring the meal so fast he thought for sure she would choke.

"How long has it been since you've eaten?" Archer asked.

Archer gave a low chuckle at the girl's exclamation. He hadn't thought that perhaps she might not be from a world that didn't have magic or anything else extraordinary. Most everyone in the City was from a place like that, but not all of them were.

"You can actually pay for things with normal rocks," Archer said. "Or really anything. Lint, scraps of paper... it's all currency in the City. I just happen to be able to transform things from one item to another."

"It's not... quite that simple," Archer said defensively, seeing the almost hungry look in the girl's eyes. Oddly enough, she seemed to want jewelry that she would look good in, not that she could show of or as a status of wealth.

"I can make anything that I can picture in my mind," he explained. "So it helps if I'm recreating something I have already seen, or that I am imagining myself. It's difficult to create things that other people are thinking of and describing to me."

"Finding a place to live is easy," Archer assured her, forgetting how serious suddenly being dumped in the City could be for a high school girl. It was bad enough when you had abilities beyond that of normal people and were used to taking care of yourself.

"There are several vacant apartment complexes in the City," he told her. "And you just occupy one when you find an empty one you want. And there are plenty of places to buy clothes here, and you can just pick up rocks on the ground to pay for them."

"Ran, calm down," Archer said in what he hoped was a soothing voice. He really wasn't used to dealing with hysterics like this. The hysterics he dealt with tending a to be a bit more... well just about different things.

"We'll find you one that's furnished, I promise," he reassured her. If he didn't find any furnishings he would make them himself, just so long as the girl calmed down.

"And you saw how easy it is to get food. We can even find an room in my apartment building, I can teach you how to cook if you need to, I enjoy doing it. And I'm sure Hotaru can keep you company at times..."

Archer immediately froze up as Ran hugged him, completely unused to that sort of affection from anyone but Hotaru. He was thankful that she released him right away though before he had to come up with some reason for her to release him.

"Yes, really," he told her. "The City can be a pretty scary place. I would not want to see anything happen to you."

Not only that, but Archer thought that Ran would be a nice, safe friend for Hotaru to have. The ex-Servant wondered if that might have been the first time anyone had referred to Ran as the "normal" friend. She was sweet, but a little spastic.
