Log;

Silent footsteps padded the hallway as Nill made her way quietly to Joshua’s room. She clutched a pillow as if it was a teddy bear that would protect from the bad things that hid in the shadows.

The events that had built over the last two days were too much for her to handle. People’s deaths, sacrifices, and too much innocent blood spilt. Her lip quivered slightly, images of the probable mass of bodies at the roots of the cherry tree slid into her mind. She had tried to sleep in her room, but the same images kept coming back to her. Nill didn’t want to imagine it anymore, she didn’t want to be alone…

Reaching the room, she carefully turned the doorknob and peered in checking to see if Joshua was still asleep. To her relief, he was sleeping peacefully although he lay sprawled on the bed, sheets ruffled up and half off the bed. The sight was comforting...since he did look kind of silly.

Closing the door behind her, she tiptoed to his bed and carefully crawled in.

Joshua rarely slept soundly. The nightmares had yet to cease, and there were plenty of them. The murders he had committed sometimes ate away at his subconscious, and images of his sister leaving him... Those were terrible. But the most common would always be that night Pyramid Head had captured and tortured him.

Coupled with the noise that was only magnified in his sleep, whispers and screams of people's thoughts in the Cathedral that melded into a loud buzzing sound just made him constantly toss and turn.

But he was a light sleeper, out of necessity, so the moment Nill touched the mattress, his eyes were open and he had rolled over with his claws bared and a snarl ready to rip from his throat. Then he saw who the intruder was, and fury turned to surprise, his hand immediately withdrawing.

"Sister." This was...unusual. Yes he sometimes snuck into her bed for snuggles, but he couldn't remember her ever doing the same to him. "What is it? Are you okay?"

Communicating was such a hard thing to do. Where should she start? Where could she start?

Sitting up, she took his hand and traced the two selected words out of her vocabulary to sum up everything. B-A-D C-U-R-S-E.

Her wings drooped slightly and averted her eyes, as if the words she wrote pained her. And they did, the words spurred on imagined images of the curse's outcome that day.

Rubbing at his bleary eyes with his free hand, Joshua watched as she traced out her letters, and then blinked when his brain tried to register what she was saying. Curse? What curse?

...Oh, right. The cherries and the murders. Of course something like that would upset her. She was so sweet and innocent.

With a gentle smile, the teenager took her hand and brought it up to kiss her palm. "Don't think about it. Those people will be revived... Like me. They just may not have a heart beat."

Lowering her hand, he held it against his chest, the rumpled shirt thin enough to reveal how cold his skin was, not to mention the lack of a beating heart. "But it's not bad, see? I'm fine. They will be, too."

Nill nodded slowly, reassured by Joshua. They would be alright...everything would be fine in the end...

Her expression pained slightly, feeling the area where his hear should have been beating. The girl wrapped herself around Joshua, glad that he was fine, glad that he was still moving, and glad that he was here.

The sudden embrace wasn't too surprising. Not anymore. She couldn't speak with words, so he was rather used to her expressing her feelings through hugs... And could he complain?

Absolutely not.

But he didn't like knowing she was doing it because she was sad. After all he was in a pretty good mood. So he reached down to give her a little squeeze before grinning and letting his hands slip just underneath the top of her pajamas to tickle mercilessly at her sides.

What kind of brother would he be to let her go to sleep sad like that?

The girl taken by surprise, released him and tried to protect herself from the tickle attack. She laughed soundlessly and a smile broke out on her face.

The girl couldn't leave it at that. Nill grinned and reached forward to tickle him back.

Retaliation!

The assault came as a surprise, since Nill usually seemed too meek to retaliate anything. It was even more of a surprise that her tickles actually worked. He jerked back and laughed, swatting gently at her hands in self defense.

Nill... Nill. No. Rosette. Sister. Right. How could he keep forgetting? She was Rosette.

Gripping at her tiny waist, Joshua laid back and effortlessly lifted her up so that all she could do was hover up above him, her long hair falling to tickle at his face. Like that, she almost looked like she was flying.

And even better, her arms were shorter than his, and thus he was safe from the tickle attack. A cocky grin was offered up at her. "I win."

Nill's eyes widened at the sudden change in perspective. Really, Joshua never ceased to take her by surprise.

She gave a pout, but could hold it for long. The girl burst into silent laughter. Alright, she was defeated. But she had gotten him to laugh, and was at least able to get a little bit of revenge.

He hated that he couldn't hear what her laugh was like. If he ever met the person who took her voice away...Joshua would shred him into so many pieces that the City could never revive him.

Carefully, the boy lowered her back down so she could rest on top of him, and he didn't much bother to pull the blankets back up. It was warm outside, and blankets on Nill's back probably wouldn't be comfortable considering her wings. He had noticed that she tended to sleep on her stomach.

Sliding one arm over her waist, he pushed up the back of her shirt so that he could trace nonsensical designs against her skin. Enjoying the warmth and softness her petite form offered, Joshua smiled again and shut his eyes. "Go to sleep. Tomorrow I'll take you flying over the ocean again."

Nodding, the girl relaxed and let sleep come. Joshua felt cold, but it didn't matter. In a way, it was comforting...although she would like to get him warm again...But those thoughts were for another day, and Nill quickly drifted off to sleep.
