Summary; Masaki and Kiyone meet at the fountain and end up reconciling. Short and sweet.
Log;
Masaki stood near the fountain, hands on his knees. He was tired from running around. Of course, he left five hours early to make sure he was on time since he could never find his way around. He wanted to see Kiyone pretty bad, though at this point, he'd never admit it. Well, maybe he would, but only to certain people. She said she had his jacket which gave him an excuse to see her again, if even for a few minutes. So, he waited, hoping she would show up.
Kiyone was surprised to see Masaki waiting for her at the fountain. She'd taken her time in getting there, figuring she would beat him by a while. His jacket lay draped over her arm, wrinkled from having been continuously folded and unfolded by her worrying hands. Somehow the bunch of fabric had found its way in amongst her things and she'd unknowingly taken it from Masaki's apartment. However the jacket had ended up in her box, she was glad, in part, that she'd have to see him in person to return it.
She approached him from behind, stopping a few steps back. "Masaki?"
Masaki turned at the sound of her voice. "Oh, uhhhh, hey. Is that it right there?" Worry shot through his mind and suddenly he felt really regretful of everything he'd done. Instead of holding his hands out to get his jacket, he had them behind his back, fidgeting.
"Oh, right. Here," she said, holding out the 'it' in question. Even holding the jacket out as far as she could, Masaki was more than an arm's length away from it. She made no move to close the gap between them. "Masaki, I'm s- I'm sorry, I didn't mean to take your jacket," she finished softly. It wasn't exactly the apology she'd started to say, but- It was the only one she could finish.
Masaki took a step forward. He reached out to grab the jacket but his feelings took over his body. He took one more quick step forward and wrapped his arms around Kiyone, his hands tightly gripping the back of Kiyone's shirt. His eyes glistened and a tear dropped from their depths. "Kiyone..you...you idiot! Why'd you leave?"
Kiyone tentatively returned the embrace, a little more than startled. "I left because you said you weren't talking to me." She pulled back a little, confused. He was only supposed to take the jacket and go, she'd thought. "I didn't think you wanted anything to do with me anymore."
Masaki pulled his head back and looked into Kiyone's face. Now his eyes were streaming with tears. "I didn't but...what can I do without you? Kiyone..I'm...I'm..."
"I'm sorry!" she finished. It distressed her to see that Masaki was crying because of her lie. "It's all my fault. I never should have hidden all of that alcohol from you, it was dishonest, and- Don't cry because of me, please."
Masaki didn't want her apologizing when it was clearly his fault. So he decided to take the initiative. He covered her mouth with his in a delicate kiss. It was this moment that he didn't want to end. One where he didn't want Kiyone to leave ever again.
"I guess..." she said once he'd broken the kiss, laughing nervously and wringing her hands. She wanted to be sure. "You forgive me, then?"
"Kiyone-chan. There's nothing to forgive, alright? I'm the one that should be sorry, trying to bully you around and all. Do you forgive me?"
"Of course I do." Kiyone laughed again, nodding her assent that she did indeed forgive him. She wanted to protest that he had hardly anything to apologize for, but feared that doing so would lead to an argument over who was most wrong and most apologetic. Not that Masaki would have agreed, but she felt she was the winner on both counts.
Now it was Masaki's turn to wring his hands. "Kiyone...you...you wouldn't mind coming back with me? I can help you get your stuff and all. It's kind of lonely without you."
"No, I wouldn't mind," she answered, smiling. "But- I think I'd rather get my things on my own. You know-" She left her sister's name unsaid. Isane had made it well-known that Masaki was not to set foot anywhere near their apartment, let alone the building they lived in.
Masaki nodded. "Then I'll go home and wait then?" He took a few steps back, knowing it was going to take a while to get back. She might even beat him home.
"Alright. I won't take long," Kiyone promised, turning to leave. "As long as Isane doesn't try to stop me, anyways."
Masaki gave a small smile. He took off running back to his room at the temple. But before he left he turned and waved goodbye to Kiyone, hoping that she really would come back.
