Log;

Sometimes, he really disliked habits. Especially ones that included consistenly waking up at the same time every morning, even though he had some time to sleep in now. Unfortunately, the SPK member had been waking up at 6am sharp for as long as he could remember. First, it'd been for school, and then for work, and during the Kira case, it'd been for work and because he probably hadn't gotten sleep that night anyway.

Groaning a little as he turned over, away from the window, he felt his arm nudge against something. What was that? Was it his soul dog again? Couldn't be. Well, maybe. Fully awake now, he sat up, the sound of a chain reaching his ears. Jevanni tugged on it, and saw that it ran to the person who was laying next to him.

In other words, he was chained to someone he didn't even know.

Fantastic.

The past few days had been more than hectic, especially with the overwhelming amount of curses. Syaoran still didn't know how he was going to patch everything up with Sakura. Things were so awkward now, but at least Fai and Kurogane were getting along again, 'getting along' being a lightly used term. Nevertheless, the sheer amount of activity sent Syaoran to bed early that night.

But the morning brought something very different. Something tugged at Syaoran's arm. He grumbled and pulled away, but the clinking sound of metal brought him to full awareness. He brought his left arm from under the covers, discovering a handcuff locked around his wrist. He followed the chain. There was another handcuff.

And then there was a total stranger sitting in the bed with him.

"Ahh!" Startled, Syaoran sprung from the bed, though failing miserably and becoming tangled in the covers and falling over the side and landing heavily on the ground.

He'd been about to wake the other person up when they started to stir by themselves. Jevanni withdrew his hand, feeling a few tugs as the (boy?) tried to turn over. With no success, really. The other person woke up then, fingers following along the chain before he yelled, springing from the bed (and failing.)

"Ah, uhm. Are you alright?" He asked, leaning over the side of the bed where the other boy had fallen.

Okay. That wasn't what he was expecting at all. Syaoran slowly examined the room. This wasn't his bedroom, the one at the Hot Springs (though it was very clean, he had to admit). Then what had happened? A rattle of the chain reminded Syaoran of the handcuffs. Was this another curse? The boy was beginning to feel that the deities only liked to torture its citizens. Great. Just great.

It took Syaoran a moment or too to figure out the other man had asked him something. "O-oh! Yes!" He scrambled to his feet, face growing very hot. "I-I'm sorry...! I don't know what happened, I just woke up and..." The rest would explain itself. Syaoran finally got a look at the man he was handcuffed to. He was much older than Syaoran and had very dark hair. His clothes were different too (even though they were only pajamas).

Jevanni was able to get a good look at the boy, finally. He looked no older than maybe sixteen, and had a very... odd outfit. It looked like something out of a fantasy story. Then again, what else should he have expected? This place was full of strange people.

He was shaken out of his observing when the kid scrambled up, apologizing and turning an interesting shade of red.

"No, no, it's fine." The older man started, giving a reassuring smile. "This city does some weird things, or so I've learned."

Well, things could have been worse for him. He could have been handcuffed to someone less reasonable. At least this man understood what was going on and didn't overreact. It made Syaoran wonder how the others were faring, but they'd be able to handle everything. Hopefully.

Syaoran took a seat on the bed and crossed his legs. "Yeah," he motioned to the handcuffs again. "This is only the second curse I've been affected by, though. I've gotten lucky."

Suddenly, it hit him. Where were his manners?!

"O-oh! I'm Syaoran, by the way!" He held out his free hand. "It's a pleasure to meet you, sir."

Mentally, he was curious if the others had gotten caught in a similar problem. Imagining Near, L, or Matt handcuffed to anyone was.... interesting to say the least. Though, L and Near probably wouldn't be bothered by it so much. Not even if they'd been handcuffed to Kira himself. That was just how they were. Thankfully, he hadn't been so unlucky.

"I see, this is my third. Maybe not so lucky, since I've technically just gotten here." He gave another smile, though this time, feeling slightly embarrassed himself.

"Wait, Syaoran, you said?" Why did that sound so familiar? Ah, this was the world-hopping kid he'd met through the network. Well, that certainly made things a little easier. "I remember you. My name's Jevanni."

... Jevanni? Syaoran stared at the man for a long time, gears churning in his mind. Where had he met him before? The name was so familiar and...

"That's right!" He exclaimed. "On the network! When you first came here! I thought it was weird that we would be cursed together if we didn't even know each other..." He trailed off. The deities were smart, they had to be. They wouldn't throw complete strangers together like this. Actually, maybe they would but Syaoran would consider that possibility later.

"Well uhh.. Jevanni-san, how should we handle this?" Syaoran scratched the back of his head. "I mean, we'll probably be stuck like this all day."

Syaoran, he noticed, was rather excitable. Not overly much, but still. He had more life to him than most of the people he usually hung around with. Including the ones who were the boy's age. Because as much as Near played with dice and toy airplanes, he rarely ever showed any kind of normal emotion. It was actually sort of relieving to be around someone who did.

"We could try to get the chains off," He started, thinking. "But I sort of doubt the deities would make it so simple." If worst came to worst, they'd just be chained together all day, but tomorrow would make everything normal again. That wasn't so bad. At least he had pleasant company.

Get the chains off. Jevanni was right. The deities would never make it that easy. There would either be a trick to get them off-one that was none too desirable-or they'd be stuck. Syaoran wasn't about to go through any extremes to get them off. Jevanni was pleasant to be around anyway. He was certainly different from any of his friends. Maybe it had to do with the world he came from.

"We might as well leave them on and just wait this out. I don't want to make this any worse... but no offense! That's not what I meant!" Syaoran looked down at his hands. How could be be so rude? Soon enough, Jevanni would be angry with him. The man was being so polite too. Maybe a change of subject was in order.

"Well... maybe we should get to know each other a little better? Since we're spending the day together and all..."

"Ah, no, no, it's ok, really!" He waved the apology off. This kid was so polite that it was almost weird. Then again, since when had he been around normal teenagers? It'd been a long time since then. Or, that's what it felt like.

"That's probably a good idea." Jevanni replied, nodding. "Where would you like to start, then?"

Where to start? That was a pretty good question. Well, there was no reason to beat around the bush, he supposed.

"Well, you know I travel worlds. I originally came from a place called Clow Country with another girl my age, Princess Sakura..." Then he paused. Was Sakura okay? She wasn't handcuffed too, was she? Wait, he was talking to Jevanni. It was rude to cut short like that. "...and then well, the country was attacked and I fled with Princess Sakura. That's when we started travelling and met Fai-san and Kurogane-san."

This all sounded so weird. He'd almost forgotten the boy came from another world entirely. So now he was hearing about a Clow Country, princesses and world traveling. It sort of made his head spin, but he pushed that away. He'd get back to involving physics and such later.

Though, it looked like there was one thing he could still understand. The need to run to survive. Syaoran mentioned something about an attack, so maybe there was a war going on in his country. That was definitely something he understood. Looked like wars really had no discrimination. And that people, no matter where they were from, were still people.

"So Fai, Kurogane, and Sakura are your traveling companions?"

"Yup!" Syaoran grinned. He couldn't be luckier either. The three of them were like his family now, especially since his father passed away. He only wished he knew more things about the attack, and everything else for that matter. This mystery around Fei Wang Reed still bothered him.

"They're here in the City now, actually," Syaoran mused, then remembered something else. "Hey, did you ever find your friends? From your world I mean."

"Yes, I did, actually." Though, he didn't know if he could call them friends, exactly. Friends didn't fake their names, order you around, and generally weren't super geniuses. If anything, Near, L, and Matt were accomplices. And that was where it ended. If any of the SPK were here, that might be a little different. But neither Lester nor Halle had shown up.

"To tell the truth, they're more accomplices, than anything else."

"Accomplices?" Huh. Normally people didn't refer to their friends like that, then again, Jevanni wouldn't have made a point of corrected Syaoran either. He wondered what happened between them then. Or maybe...

"What were they accomplices of, if you don't mind my asking? Were you working on something?"

"Well, I suppose you could call them detectives. We were working on a large scale investigation on a man named Kira." He replied, evading most of the details. As much as help and an extra set of eyes would be nice to have in the City (especially since Light was here), Jevanni wasn't so sure he wated to involve Syaoran. The kid was well--- just that, a kid.

Oh. So they were detectives. That would explain the 'accomplices' remark. Syaoran vaguely knew about detectives, but they were always different in each world. Apparently they were very serious where Jevanni came from if they weren't too friendly with each other. He supposed it was okay if that was what Jevanni was used too.

"Kira?" Then Syaoran stopped himself. Jevanni would have further explained if he really wanted Syaoran to know. It was the same as Syaoran not explaining the whole attack on Clow. For now, they needed to lie low. He didn't want to stir anything up with everyone being so on edge anyway.

"Well," said Syaoran, breaking the silence. "Maybe we should do something about breakfast? I know it's early and all, but we might as well continue our day like normal."

Maybe he'd tell Syaoran about Kira later. That is, of course, if he trusted the kid enough by the end of the day. Hopefully, he'd make up his mind by then, as well. In any case, the boy had a good suggestion. No use trying to do anything out of the ordinary today, especially not with three feet of chain between them.

"Good idea. Though," He started, a sheepish smile on his face, "I can't cook very well, so going somewhere might be a better idea."

Syaoran scooted off the bed, adjusting his shirt as he did so. Maybe he'd be able to tell Jevanni about Fei Wang sometime. It may be helpful. He'll just have to take it up with Sakura and the others, especially Kurogane. Did the ninja already know who was behind all of this?

"Oh no! I can cook!" Syaoran smiled broadly. "I've been living on my own for awhile, so I needed to know how. I'm not amazing or anything, but I can certainly make breakfast..."
