Summary; Smith plops into the City and is greeted with a "slightly unhappy" Mello who is looking for friends
Log;

You know, riding on a warp scooter would imply that you arrive in a completely different location, but one would assume that they arrive on said scooter. C.T. Smith had no such luck. There was a flash of light and he suddenly found himself standing in front of a lavish fountain instead of crammed on a tiny seat with a number of other people. His briefcase was at his feet and hat was safe atop his head. Slowly he reached for the briefcase and examined his surroundings.

It was an odd city to say the least, or at least it was nothing like he had ever seen. It was quite beautiful, though. Smith adjusted his hat to keep the sun out of his eyes. Well... this was interesting.
---
Mello was out near said fountain. And in a particularly sour mood, at that. He'd since cooled down from his tirade at Matt the other day, though that wasn't quite what was bothering him. Two things were a little more important than that. One being that Light had somehow managed to get under his skin, if only a little. The man also known as Kira had been making contacts much faster than he, Near, or L. It was disconcerting and at the same time, aggravating. The people here didn't know what lay behind Light's carefully crafted (though charming) exterior. And it was difficult to convince them otherwise, since they didn't have much proof.

The second thing, well, was the fact that he was the one out and about, trying to gain some more contacts. It was hard, though Near and L would probably struggle just as much, if not more. Wammy House didn't exactly breed sociable people. However, it did bring out people who coped well under any kind of pressure or strange event.

Such as seeing a man pop out from virtually nowhere, right in front of him.

"Holy fuck!"
---
The city was pleasant, or at least it was, until a shout behind Smith brought his attention to the people around him. He was nearly scared to death! Good thing he had such fast reflexes and control~! Slowly, he turned around to find the owner of a voice. Behind him stood a young man dressed, well, kind of like Gamma. Smith stared at the blonde boy for a few seconds. He was obviously startled with Smith just popping in out of no where. His expression--and exclamation--gave that much away.

With a wide grin, he turned to the young man and held out his hand. There was no reason he had to be a stranger! Maybe he could learn more about where he was, how he got there, and most importantly, how to leave. He did have Rings to find.

"Hello there! My name is C.T. Smith. It's a pleasure to meet you!"
---
During his stay in the City, Mello had met some very strange people. None of them beat this C.T. Smith. None. For a brief moment, the blonde stared at him like he was crazy (which he probably was, he really wouldn't be surprised.) The moment passed, and he warily shook the other man's hand. After all, he had to be on his best behavior. That meant no chewing people out. For now, at least.

"Likewise," He said, trying to keep his voice pleasant, "I'm Mello."
---
Smith grinned, shaking Mello's hand. He did not exactly appreciate that 'you must be crazy' look he was giving him (where had he seen that before?), but he continued to ignore it. He adjusted his hat again and looked around the what he assumed to be a plaza of sorts before looking back at Mello.

"Mello?" Hm. Strange name. "Well, would you happen to know the name of this city? I'd like to know where I am so I can get back. I have some business to attend to~"
---
The blonde withdrew his hand, still eying this Smith guy with caution. Mello was already suspicious of almost everyone aside from L, Near, and Matt, but this man was especially strange. Perhaps it was the briefcase. It made him itch to open it and see if there was anything remotely notebook related. But he withheld.

"It's just called 'The City'. There are deities that run it, and there's some really weird curse shit that happens every now and again. That's all I know." He shrugged. "The only other thing is that there doesn't seem to be a way out. And if you die, you just come back twenty-four hours later."
---
Smith's eyebrows shot up, disappearing underneath the brim of his hat. Just 'the City'? He had never heard of a place like that before. Of course he had never heard of a place you couldn't leave and grants immortality. It was a shame Gamma didn't know about it. It made Zombie Powder seem like such a waste~

"Hmm, well that's odd." Smith paused to think, though it was more of an act than anything. "Then do people normally pop in like me? I'd think if you lived here longer, you'd know more about it, or at least more details."
---
"So far as I know, they do. I haven't been here that long." He shrugged again, feeling a small bit of irritation well up. Smith's questions made him remember how much he didn't know about this place. Which was aggravating, considering the circumstances. He really hated not knowing something. And this place was his biggest puzzle yet. Maybe even more so than Kira.

Ok, maybe not.
---
"Oh really? That's great!" Smith exclaimed, goofy grin growing on his face again. That meant Mello was at least familiar with the layout of the City. That meant he would have someone to rely on, at least until he figured everything out himself. Of course Mello didn't seem like a, well, happy fellow. Maybe he was just shy.

"Then would you know where I could stay? If I'm not leaving any time too, I'd like to find some inn~ Perhaps I'll be able to contact a few people. You know, this and that~" A few people meaning Gamma, Elwood, and Wolfina. If anything, they'd want to hear about the immortal city. Then Smith would work on a way to get out. He couldn't be stuck here forever.
---
"There's not really any inns here, but there are apartments. Just pick a building and an empty room." The blonde shrugged, pushing his irritation away as best he could. Less thinking about Kira helped. Of course, that was task in itself. He was being polite to most people because of Kira and the case. Mello really hated how things went in loops like that, sometimes.

"It shouldn't be hard to find people. The network here is extensive."
---
"Oh? No rent? Goodness, who would have thought?" Smith grinned. At least things would be easier than he thought. Maybe the food would be free too. Oh he hoped so. The City wouldn't be that bad if it handed out free food. He thought a little harder about 'the network' though. That meant there were computers and some kind of technology then. Lucky for Smith he was good at figuring technical things out, even if he wasn't used to them.

"Oh, I don't think I'll have too much trouble. Gamma is pretty easy to find, which is funny since the authorities haven't..."
---
"There are no authorities here." He replied shortly, cutting off the other's trailing sentence. That was another thing that grated on his nerves. No authorities meant no law, which meant Kira couldn't be brought to justice that way. How irritating. Biting the inside of his cheek (and wishing he had a chocolate bar right about now), he reminded himself to calm down (again).

"No authorities, no rent, and you can pay for things however you'd like. They take anything as currency, doesn't matter."
---
Smith stared long and hard at Mello, mostly out of disbelief. That was... different. How was everything so peaceful and orderly then? Well, no one could die, right? There would be no reason to get into fights like the gangs of Smith's world did. Things were slowly beginning to look better and better. As Smith was thinking Mello made a face, then spoke again. His statement was promptly ignored.

"Hey, what's chewing you out anyway? I think you're the crankiest person I've ever met before."
---
Mello was in the midst of ignoring Smith's stare. He was observing a little more, as he'd been taught. Right now, he was puzzling his way through this guy's overall look. And not the physical kind, per se. There was just something that seemed... well, off. He was bright and cheery, but that wasn't all there was. The blonde would definitely keep it in mind. Someone like Smith could be a great help to the case, after all.

Though, that question threw him off a little. Most people didn't care whether he was cranky or not. And now this random guy was asking about it? He could always tell him the truth, well, mostly.

"I apologize. I've been working on a difficult case lately, and there seems to be no real headway."
---
At first, Smith gave Mello a small, concerned pout. He was what? 18? Maybe? Smith was so bad at guessing ages to begin with. But he mentioned a 'difficult case'. So he was a detective? Mello sure didn't look like one, but Smith pushed the fact aside. He was from a different world and all. It was probably normal that detectives from his world dressed in leather and tall boots on a daily basis, though it was a little impractical.

Smith gave him a resounding slap on the back and grinned. "Well brooding isn't going to help! If you want, I'll lend a hand. I've done my own investigating, actually~"
---
He pitched forward a little with a grimace, at Smith's display. Mello was not used to people being so friendly, especially not when first meeting them. Maybe this guy was a little... you know... not all there? That might explain that weird feeling he got when he talked to him. Probably not, but it was something to consider.

Well, not there or there, Smith was offering a hand. He could prove to be useful.

"Actually, that would be a real help." Mello replied politely, after looking to think it over.
---
Hmm. Maybe Mello wasn't that bad. He just seemed to have a few mood swings, though they were a little drastic. For a second, he wondered if Mello was really a detective, but he wouldn't be so put out by this apparently very difficult case if he wasn't. And he was polite! That made things better~

"Alright then~! Why don't you lead on? It'll be easier if you write down everything so I can refer back. Then I think I'll start looking around tomorrow~"
