Log;
Juliet was looking better today. She wasn't longer pale and fragile. That filled his young heart with relief. Soon, she would likely leave the hospital and they could return to Opera Abandoned and continue their lives without incidents. It frustrated Romeo he wasn't able to rescue her or to be there when danger struck and bled her out.
Juliet… forgive me. I…
Shaking his head, the young nobleman stared at the starry horizon, feeling the air becoming colder. Smiling, he pushed his grievances away and finished to pluck a bouquet of irises to take to Juliet. He closed his eyes to smell at the delicate fragrance. Irises always had a calming effect on him, like a sedative that serene his concern and brought joy back into himself.
They would return to Neo Verona one day, all of them, and changed it for better, to make their world belong to the people.
I'm sure of it. This cold wind will become the whirling of hope.
His high spirits renewed, Romeo stood and started his way back to the Hospital. He swept off the leaves and soil from his blue robes meanwhile. Xanadu has always been quiet and peaceful. Regardless how empty could be at night.
He sped up his pace so he wouldn't take long and make Tybalt and Benvolio worry.
>>>
It was burning, hot and boiling in her, the need for it, for blood, for satiation for her Thirst. Radu Barvon- Somewhere back in her mind, her logical, rational mind, she knew she’d been had, she’d been set up and she’d fallen, all because of her damnable pride.
I can handle this, she’d thought. She’d given the Aqua Vitae to Ion Fortuna rather than admit they were running out, said she’d already eaten and sat in silence. I can handle this. Even when Greed had tried to offer her blood, she had managed to refuse, wouldn’t lower herself to that, but now-
The scent of it was so strong, she’d lost so much, and she needed it, bestial mind and the bestial part of her body needed it, and then-
There it was.
Terran. Before she had time to think her body moved and she ignored Radu Barvon, so fast, ten times faster than any human, and she was on him, bowling the young man over and her claws sinking into his shoulders, going in to bite.
"Eh?" Romeo managed to say, uttering an unexpected yelp followed by a cry when the unknown woman sunk her claws into his shoulders. He gritted his teeth, dropping the irises and trying to reach his sword. During this motion, his small portable communicator he was carrying to Tybalt's comfort fell off to the floor.
"Stop this!" he shouted, tensing his muscles at the razor fangs.
>>>
“I-“ She felt the crunch of the communicator beneath her high heeled boot, felt his skin beneath her claws and instinctively they moved, one grabbing his wrist and pinning it to the ground, a snarl and her fangs bared, gleaming bright white in the moonlight.
“I can’t-” Her voice broke, entire body quaking with the force of the effort she was exerting not to draw his blood, to sate the violent need in her own for hemoglobin to keep her alive. And yet, to do this, to steal blood from a Terran-
No, no, no, she’d be no better than him, he who had killed the one person closest to her in life-
“Stop me-“ Astaroth grit out, face contorted in the agony it took to not just bite on his jugular even as her hand ripped away at the fabric near his neck and her slit pupils flashed brighter gold, moving in to sink those fangs deep into his neck.
>>>
Romeo squirmed beneath her weight, attempting to push her away with his legs after his wrists were pinned by the woman. But her strength, it was overwhelming. How could be she so strong?
"I-I am trying," he said, finding his voice in his dread. What was wrong with this woman? She sounded…
Suffering…
"What-Are you alright?" he asked, fear leading to concern. His heart rate had sped, unconsciously, at the signal of danger but Romeo's eyes bored into hers before they flashed golden.
He closed them when she tore the fine fabric of his collar and, when she bit down and the world was filled with pain, Romeo thought of Juliet.
>>>
The blood that welled into her mouth made her entire body tense, tremble in anger, the bestial need sating itself even as her logical mind, her true self, recoiled in horror, condemned herself for what she was doing. This was a crime, taking blood from a Terran against their will was a crime and she couldn’t stop herself, couldn’t stop her tongue from lapping up the crimson she spilled with white fangs, from savaging at his neck.
Her hands vainly tries to shove herself off of him, to let go, let him go, Astaroth, but she couldn’t, not when the bacillus in her own blood was so weak, needed hemoglobin and needed it now, her own blood dripping from her open wound down onto the human beneath her as she snarled and bit harder, though beneath the noise of that snarl was something like a sob.
Stop. Her mind rejected this, rejected everything about this. She wasn’t- Stop. She wasn’t anything like those sort of people, she wasn’t, she wasn’t, and she couldn’t stop and he was thrashing and she was pinning him effortlessly and the taste of it in her mouth was so heady in made the slits of her eyes dilate wildly and it tasted like life, the life that was bleeding out of her, and yet-
Astaroth finally released him, his blood dribbling down her chin as she weakly recoiled, the gold slowly draining from her eyes and horror and disgust beginning to set in, panting hard and almost retching at the taste of pure, unfiltered blood in her mouth, on delicate lips.
She was just like him now, just like… just like the one who had killed her tovaras.
>>>
When his life was being sipped away, Romeo thought about Juliet. He thought about her and their wedding vows.
In life and in death, together forever.
He would honor his promise to her. He would open his eyes and fight this with all his strength. So he did. His trashing become more violent fight for his right to live with her, with Juliet, his beloved. He had more strength every time he proposed to do something for her.
"Stop! I promised! I promised to Juliet I will be with her!" he shouted hoarsely, hissing at the damage the claws were doing while they held him down.
"Relea-" his weaker demand was interrupted by Astaroth's recoiling. What? Panting, he tried to cover the wound with his hand, but found his strength lacking. Dazed, Romeo looked up and ask in a whisper.
"A-Are you… feeling a-alright?"
>>>
“No, I’m-“ Juliet, wasn’t that… wasn’t that the Terran girl? O… Odin? … No, no, it couldn’t- Fate couldn’t be that cruel to her, not now, her hands clutching the wound she bore that had triggered her Thirst and her lips still dripping blood, but when she looked at him now, sated, she didn’t see what slit gold eyes had seen, didn’t see a meal, no, she saw a Terran, whose life she had almost taken in such a way-
“I’m just- Just like the Count of Zagrev-“ She whispered, horrified, stretching weakly to press her claws over the bite, stifle bleeding in him and feel the pulse to make sure he would live- Now that she was in her right mind, she couldn’t leave him, couldn’t let him die-
“Just, stay calm, I’ll-“ A sound behind her and she turned in a whirl of ivory hair and droplets of blood from her lips that had come from the Terrans neck.
>>>
The steps that brought him back to the garden were slower, noticeably calmer and only differing from a casual stroll by the clear and exact direction. He had felt the urge to light a cigarette, but had dismissed the thought. No, he was not relaxed, not content, not satisfied. He was hurried, worried, disgusted and terrified and had to see to prevent the damage the Duchess would cause in her bloodlust. He had to be more convincing than this, and as an answer to his self-scolding, his steps raised their speed. He could not risk being too early and catching her before she had caused destruction yet, but by now, the closer he came, he could smell the shed Terran blood. He was not too early, but maybe too late. What a pity. He sighed in frustration that he still had to help instead of simply going home after his work was done, but orders were orders and his concern switching to horror believably enough when he ran the last part of the way and stopped short at the sight of Astaroth and the dying Terran.
"You..." His words were strangled, and for the moment it was good that he could use his anger at the woman and her queen and state, where he should have shown an equal anger at the monstrosity of her doing. A spark of blue fire flared up in his palm, but he held back, and instructed her with a voice as calm as he could manage, "Duchess. Get away from him."
>>>
Romeo stayed calm. He was feeling conscience slip away slowly and the blood still leaving his blood through the claws and fangs injuries opened on his throat. "I…" he tried to speak but he was losing strength to articulate words. Next to his face, he caught the glimpse of the fallen irises now stained with his blood and the dirt of Xanadu. He focused on them and the image of Juliet waiting for him in the Hospital.
"J… Juliet…" he whispered as Radu made his appearance act again. He tried to look but couldn't focus. Romeo could spot a man with dark blue as his was while he struggled to keep himself awake.
>>>
Her eyes widened, then narrowed into slits, a growl wrested from her throat that came out wet and bloody, more crimson on her lips and chin, but she recoiled once more from the Terran, horrified at what she had done, her morals, everything she had stood for in tatters, stained in blood.
Blood Extortion. A federal offense, a crime, and she had-
“Baron of Luxor-“ She almost couldn’t summon her hatred of him, too shocked, too disgusted with herself, bile rising up in her throat and suddenly gagging, trying to retch, to vomit up the blood she’d stolen, shaking in the fearful aftermath of Thirst, in shame and helplessness, unable to rise, body to weakened and wounds still starting to heal, a stricken expression on her face as the Terran called out the name of his lover.
>>>
It could not be helped, but at least she was in her right mind again. The flame in the Ifrit's hand extinguished and he lunged forward, pushing her away from Romeo and taking a look at the man's wounds. It was not good - he was bleeding to death. But a life saved, as unimportant as it was, would only help to better his reputation and drag that of the Duchess in the dirt. He hated it, but he knew.
When he took off his headscarf and tore it into stripes to bandage Romeo's wounds provisionally, he did not give Astaroth so much as a glance. He was well used to treating wounds, but there was only so much he could do here, without any equipment at all. "Go to the hospital. Hurry. Make sure they are prepared when I bring him in."
>>>
“I-“ Her mind was frozen, the wounds on her neck and arm hissing as they slowly knit back together, crimson matted and drying in her uniform, on flesh and lips. Her blood. His blood. She gagged again, struggling to her feet automatically, responding to the authoritative voice before she froze.
It’s an act- It had to be an act, she knew it was an act- The Duchess stared at them, one in regretful horror and the other in abject hate, But… Now…
She wanted to, she could stab him, she could kill him while his back was turned, but what would that make her? Spitting out a mouthful of blood in disgust, Astaroth turned weakly on her heel and ran for the hospital.
>>>
Romeo stared at Radu weakly; his eyelids were so heavy and closing. This man was stopping the flow of the blood. He would endure this and would survive. For Juliet. The promise… I will honor our promise. I can't give up.
"Ah…" Romeo tried to speak, to keep his mind busy as images of moments lived with Juliet aided him to regain his strength. "T-Thank you… I will be strong and wait." And smiled or tried to; his lips twitched and trembled.
