Log;

Sasuke headed out of the apartment and started to walk further into the city. He winced slightly, clutching his shoulder from the pain. It wasn't until yesterday's curse, that caused the seal to start bothering him again.

He sighed, moving his arm away from his shoulder, and continued walking, hoping he could come to a decision by the time he headed back.

He'd returned briefly to the inn where he'd spent the night, to pick up what little food he'd procured in his ventures into the city yesterday and to make a brief inventory of the bare-bones reference materials he'd taken from the library. As the day wore on, Kimimaro had gotten restless, however, and was now in the street, cross-checking the several maps that had been in the library.

It appeared the mapmakers had tried to be as unhelpful as possible, by breaking the charting of the city into several pieces, each attributed to a different author and each using a different coding system. Frustrated and distracted as he was by both the sheets he was holding and his seeming inability to find anything of use, still Kimimaro did not miss the flash of a very familiar headband--he slowed his steps.

There was not a ninja of the Hidden Village of Sound who would not recognize the figure currently strolling down the street with head low--Kimimaro more than most, since he had more interest vested than most in Orochimaru-sama's ambitions.

As it was, he made certain that he was almost squarely in the boy's way before straightening his map with a rustle, and querying softly, "Do you know where I might find this street?"

He should not have been surprised, really, that the Leaf genin did not even suspect or look twice. Tayuya had claimed to have avoided the Konoha group, after all, though he'd not been sure how much credibility to give that. Still, he would've thought that a boy pursued both by Orochimaru-sama and the Akatsuki would have taken more precautions.

He'd been careful so far, but it was time to gamble a little. "I was told there might be a weaponry shop on that street."

Tayuya herself was tailing Kimimaro. She didn't trust the fucker as far as she could throw him, but she served him. Not out of respect or admiration, but out of fear. He'd send her off to find Kabuto, and she had left under his orders, but having been unable to locate him at the moment, she'd returned to find her... leader... scheming. Or at least it looked like it, since he was approaching Uchiha Sasuke. She'd lied earlier to the man about not speaking with any Konoha ninja yet, and a tightness in her throat made her feel as if she might be found out. Moving silently, she kept quiet on the top of a nearby building, only one story tall. She kept her head low, but her ears tuned, trying to listen to their conversation.

{ooc: hope no one minds, but she just jumped in on her own}

Kimimaro noticed immediately the moment the nature of the other's regard changed, and accordingly shifted his stance, subtly readying himself for confrontation of any sort.

What he was doing was rash, compared to the level of caution he'd been exercising until now--but the new information he'd gathered, both from the library and from Tayuya, gave him more mobility. "As a shinobi in a strange place," Kimimaro admitted, tone wry, "there is hardly anything more important." He paused, genuinely curious. "Heard? Have you not seen it?"

Tayuya cursed in her head, worrying that each word the two exchanged let closer and closer to her being found caught in a lie by a man she held a healthy amount of fear for. She could always give herself up, she supposed, but she didn't know if Kimimaro was the type to go lenient with such a confession. Better to wait and come up with ways to cover her own ass later. As for now, she continued to listen in.

Tayuya felt a bead of sweat roll down the side of her face. If Kimimaro found out, if he found out... she didn't like to think of it.

Her eyes widened as she saw a cat stalking a mouse across the way. The mouse was one a rickity pipe. Shit shit shit shit shit shit shit shit. She took out a kunai, intending to scare away the cat before something happened, but the cat sprung and the mouse was off, bringing the cat crashing into the metal pipes, which clanged out with a sharp series of noises. Tayuya hurried into a crouch, looking about for a quick change of position.

Kimimaro had been aware for some time of a fairly unruly and half-smothered chakra very close by, and although his head came up at the sudden cacophony down the street he gave no other indication of suspicion. He wanted to know who was spying, and whether it was himself or Sasuke (the more likely, having been here longer and more notorious to his knowledge) being followed.

"Oh?" He tilted an eyebrow delicately at the boy. "May I ask who was your source of information, then...?"

Tayuya bit back her fears, trying to quash the flare of chakra she'd probably released when her concentration had blown. She was biting her lip, hard, stock still, afraid that even the slightest movement would give away her already perilous position.

Tayuya let herself breathe, albeit slowly. She kept her head down, pressing herself flat against the low wall on the roof that separated her from the immediate sight of Kimimaro and Sasuke. If they kept on speaking like this she was sure something would happen.

Both of those bastards were from the past, well, her past, so she had the advantage of knowing what would happen, but that was it. She had the advantage over the Uchiha in a fight with her curse seal so much more advanced than his, but that wouldn't last long if Kimimaro took it upon himself to fulfill Orochimaru-sama's will without the snake sannin's presence. As for Kimimaro... he'd always been stronger. He'd be able to use his Earth Seal to whip her ass halfway into the real afterlife. Not a pleasant thought. She weighed all of the options in her mind. Would the Uchiha let on to Kimimaro she had already spoken with him? Would Kimimaro leap straight to some sort of punishment. Was she brave enough to defy him, since she was dead after all?

Steeling herself, Tayuya side lept over the low wall on the roof, coming to land in a loose crouch on the ground below. She stood, a brave face, but inside she couldn't have been more uneasy.

"Kimimaro." She nodded her head to her... boss first. "Uchiha Sasuke." She smirked in the boy's direction. Thinking of his future made her feel a tiny bit superior. Even if she was deceased.

Kimimaro raised an eyebrow at the sudden appearance of his subordinate, but that was the only sign of surprise he betrayed. He might have known it was Tayuya meddling--she'd always been unpredictable, and a busybody who didn't know what was good for her. It was just a pity the other Sound Four members weren't here to restrict her; the team had at least had a sound dynamic, if not strictly teamwork.

"Do you have business here?" he asked of the newcomer in a seemingly careless tone.

Tayuya noticed that eyebrow. Kimimaro did that when he was mildly unpleased. She took a bit of pleasure in knowing she'd moved the bastard's eyebrow.

"I was... looking around..." She knew Kimimaro would know what she was referring to. "And I caught sight of you two. Thought I'd drop in." She smirked, a cocky smile, thought most of it was bluff.

Tayuya could have easily reached out and strangled the smug little bastard where he stood. Kimimaro would draw no other conlusion now, caught in a lie as she was. Not that she didn't think Kimimaro didn't expect her to lie. She only smiled in the Uchiha's direction, a cruel smaile.
