Summary; Kabuto has a talk with Tayuya about her manners.
Log;
Tayuya fought down the erratic pulse she felt, the fear. She was not often afraid. She feared few people, the people she couldn't stand up to on her own, and among those people were a select few. Orochimaru. Kabuto. Kimimaro. It was just her luck that fucking two of them were in the city, and found her. She'd been so excited to be away from them at first, until she was shackled by that fear again. There was a healthy amount of respect as well, but the fear outweighed it. Respect for their power, what they could do to her if they felt the need. And Kabuto... she was worried he might feel like it.
“Tayuya san.” Kabuto said, his voice even, as he walked up to the woman who seemed lost in her own thoughts. He had told her they would be discussing her behavior later, and now was as good a time as any. Besides, there seemed to be a lot of Oto ninja showing up, so there were other things that needed to be brought up. First things first however.
"... Kabuto." Tayuya stood as still as she had been, leaning back against the wall of building 4. She had to be there under Kimimaro's orders anyway, scouting out locations for a base of operations. She tried not to let trepidation show.
Kabuto moved so he was standing in front of her, hands casually in his pockets. “I see death hasn’t changed you.” Though he was smiling, his voice held no warmth. “I guess I shouldn’t be surprised though, you are a very stubborn woman.”
"I never expected death to do anything but send me to Hell. Which, apparently, it hasn't." Tayuya looked Kabuto in the eyes when she spoke, the extent of her bravado at this point. "And you... or wait, I'm not supposed to presume anything about you, am I?" Tayuya baited, walking a fine line.
“No, you aren’t; but I assure you, I’m very alive.” Kabuto was used to dealing with this obstinate woman, knew she liked to push the boundaries given to her. “I’m sure that you are aware that even though your dead, you can still feel as if you weren’t. It must be strange, remembering dieing, the darkness overwhelming you then ending up in this place as if nothing had happened. I’m going to have to have you describe the experience to me some time.”
Tayuya grit her teeth. "Oh, you know, it wasn't too bad. I couldn't really feel anything below the waist anyway. Broken spine and all, you know."
Kabuto nodded absently. “Yes, yes, you can tell me about it later. For now, we have something else to discuss.” His smile never slipped, and to any passerby it would look as if they were having a pleasant conversation.
"... of course." Tayuya didn't have a total disregard for her well-being, she was avoiding using the rough language that had gotten her into this shit in the first place. "What did you want to discuss?" Like she didn't know.
“Do you think I would let an enemy stay in my apartment, free to come and go as they please, if I didn’t have a reason?” Kabuto’s voice grew colder.
Tayuya fought the instinct to press herself back against the wall behind her. "Of... course not." She tried to keep the confidant attitude in the face of a man she believed could easily snap her spine again. "But I still think you have to have more than one reason for keeping the bitch around."
Kabuto raised an eyebrow. “I will not tolerate you calling her that. The idea is for her to want to stick around, to trust me. If she doesn’t, everything up to this point will have been for nothing.” Tayuya was lucky he had so much patience. “As for my reasons, those are none of your business, your only concern is to do as you are told. When you show up tomorrow, I do not expect you to act as if she is your best friend, but you will not act like you did before.”
"What are you planning Kabuto?" Tayuya furrowed her brow. She didn't know what Kabuto meant to do in this City. Leave, sure, but what did he plan to do while in it.
“You learn some interesting things while wandering this place. I plan to put what I’ve heard to use.” Kabuto said it in a way as to hint that maybe Tayuya should be doing a bit of listening in on people’s conversations as well. “Leaving this City won’t be enough to keep any of us in one piece. What I have planned is in your best interest as well, even if you are technically dead.”
"... how do I figure into your interests... my interests... if I'm dead?" Tayuya watched Kabuto dance around the question in his normal manner. She caught the hint to listen better, but she still wasn't satisfied with his answer.
“If you paid more attention to what people were saying around you, then you might know already.” Kabuto seemingly changed the subject. “Has the ticking been getting to you?”
"Enlighten me, Kabuto." Tayuya felt a twitch develop in her left eye. "Pretend I don't know a damn thing. You're good at that."
Kabuto shook his head in response. “What would be the fun in that? You have time to figure it out without me holding your hand.”
Tayuya squared her shoulders. "This city isn't about having fun, Kabuto." She stepped forward, her eyes still meeting his. "Tell me, or I won't be cooperating with anything."
“There is a clock counting down to the end of everything, somewhere in this city.” Kabuto’s smile finally slipped. “I’m not telling you anything more than that.” He turned away, glancing back over his shoulder. “I have some things to attend to, and I’m sure you do as well. Goodbye.”
