Log;

Maybe it wasn’t the time nor place, but a certain captain of a certain ship docked in a certain building thought otherwise. It was probably still early in the morning, but the straw-hat had found himself wandering aimlessly onto the deck of the Going Merry. Whether it was his beast-like nature or just because he’d been half-awake didn’t matter to him at all; he just knew that when his stomach growled, he had to eat.

“Ah, I’m hungry...” Luffy had taken one more step before skimming the area, eyes half-open as it didn’t register to him that it was still dark out. “Meat...meat. I need some. Right now. Meat...

Nami wasn’t there to scold him for his stupidity and his crew were probably still sleeping safely on the ship, so there was little stopping him from his walk towards the sheep figurehead where he’d taken pride in his special seat there—absolutely no one was allowed to sit up there at all aside from himself.

His steps were staggered, but he managed onto the sheep’s top and plopped down upon’s his head snuggled between Merry’s two curled horns. Likewise, Luffy had curled his arms across his chest, his drowsiness sinking away with a yawn or two. He’d given up on finding food for now with Sanji being asleep and all and there were certain things on his mind. Maybe that was the reason he found it hard to sleep.

“Na, Merry.”

The gentle sea breeze blew, knocking his treasured hat off his head only to have it gently fluttering like paper at his back. His eyes were dulled as he sat in thought upon the ship while listening to the snores of his crew through the door of their living quarters.

“They said the there’s a countdown.”

Thoughtfully, he glanced down at the ship’s ebony eyes and waiting as if the ship would answer right back, not that Luffy ever doubted it’s ability to. Merry had always been a cherished crew member aboard the ship. He grazed the worn out figurehead gingerly with his hand and he couldn’t help but be flooded with countless memories of their adventures from the East Blue on. They’d been through so much, but now they’d found this place.

That night, Luffy didn’t hear a word nor a whisper to comfort the uneasy feelings he had felt ever since his arrival here. It was a relief to see his crew appear one by one, really it was, but knowing that no one in his crew were safe now, bothered the boy greatly. He had to protect them, it was inevitable. As their Captain, he wouldn’t stop at nothing to. Aside from that, he’d made new comrades from places he could only dream of going; he wanted to protect them too.

His head craned forward and the shadows upon his face darkened in the moonlight above as single hand shifted his straw hat on top his head. Realizing that he could hardly grasp to understand the situation at hand, Luffy soon found himself leaning against one of Merry’s horns.

His eyes felt heavy and there was no use fighting the urge to sleep inside of him any longer, but he found himself looking back to the ship’s painted figurehead. Through his silent words, the young captain’s worries seemed to subside, his preoccupations lifted for the time-being as he soon found himself falling asleep under watchful eyes.
