Log: Ongoing
When; Friday afternoon (07/11)
Rating; PG
Characters; Meta Knight
metastable, Sasha Nein
monochrome_mind
Summary; Sasha gives Meta a tour, and the two analytical thinkers share some musings and information about the City.
Log;
The City was much easier to traverse by air. All these immense creatures called 'humans' were roaming the ground. Most of them seemed to have no capability of flight, unfortunately crowding the ground far more than he had hoped. He wasn't the sort to go flying around and showing off his wings to everyone -- in fact, it could take any attackers off guard if they expected a land battle and he suddenly made it a ground-to-air battle. Unfortunately, in this sea of five- to six-foot sentients, his little two-foot frame was unfit for walking about in the crowds.
This City did seem like a world of its own, but the more likely possibility was some kind of control from a higher group of entities. Brainwashing, or mass deception, or some kind of magically induced compliance that produced all these legends about one-day curses and deities and so forth. Nightmare was close to a god, and presumably there were gods about, but it seemed so unlikely that here was a sequestered land hidden away from any possible universe and tucked out of the reach of space-time.
It would take a lot of convincing to prove that, say, this wasn't just one of Nightmare's slave-colonies-to-be. Simply him growing these creatures like mice in this false City, waiting to seize them in their prime.
But thoughts aside, the air currents were gentle today, easy on his bat's wings. Down below, amidst the crowd shuffling near the carousel, a man stood near its edge and calmly looked into the distance. His thin sunglasses hid his eyes -- well planned, Meta thought -- but the little lean of his head suggested he was idle for a reason. Though the bird's-eye-view didn't do him justice, he looked like the man in the images. Another human, or at least quite possibly human in some way.
Meta circled once, then dropped down vertically to land on the branch of a small tree near the man. He was slightly above Sasha's head level, putting him at comparable height to the humans now.
"Well met." He pulled his cape across himself and held it in place there. "This is a strange place for a carousel. But then, this entire City is nothing if not strange."

He watches with intent eyes, as the two-foot knight lands on a nearby tree. It looks like the person he's supposed to be meeting with, and so, Sasha walks calmly towards the tree.
"Indeed. An honor to meet you in person, Sir Meta Knight." He nods in agreement to the other statement. "Yes, it is a strange place. But like you've just stated, the entire City can be strange at times. Perhaps nothing is really normal here."
no subject
"The people here. Are they all here against their will?"
no subject
He glances out at the City as well, almost frowning just a bit at the sights. This isn't home to him by a long shot, no mater how many things or people make it seem otherwise. "I think most people forget that after a while. To forget that we're all trapped in a City with no escape, a prison of sorts. I've thought about it for a long time, even though I've been stuck here for only a few months."
no subject
And if that were the case, he had to begin an escape plan at once, because he had to ensure that Kirby and the new resistance made it through the war alive. If they were defeated again, Nightmare would rule the entirely of the cosmos, and there would be no end to his power. He could turn the tables, as soon as he departed this strange upside-down city.
Like fleeing the Factory. One who can do that, can escape anything.

He looks up at Meta Knight calmly. "The City also has another troubling problem. No one has ever escaped the City, unless taken back to their own world by the deities power. Considering they can control time and have enough power to pull us all here, I shouldn't expect anything less."

There are others much more powerful than he in this universe, and not all of them are benevolent. He often forgets, and he doesn't enjoy reminding himself. Nightmare, he can accept. But if these are demigod in nature...
They have not been seen outside this area. Therefore Nightmare is his personal threat, and that is all. He shoves the rest away into the back of his mind.
"No one has escaped." The words mean nothing to him. Not after what he has seen and done in his thousand or so years, and seeing the citizens here be so lazy about it doesn't encourage fear. "Nothing is perfect. No trap is gap-free. Given time and and a brain, one can always find the crack to slip through."
no subject
It may not seem obvious at first, but Sasha can sense that something is wrong with his companion. If only by his gestures and tone of voice. "Do you have anything else you wish to ask me? Or shall we explore the City a bit?"

Sasha, The Corinthian, so many here to open the soul and peer inside. "It is not something I encounter much in my world," is his only explanation. Avoiding mention of his own thoughts is the best way to avoid the delicate situations involved when commenting on himself.
Yes, many delicate situations...

"It is understandable. In my world, psychics are rare, so it is hard to get used to things we don't understand."

He sighs for a moment. "Ach, now I wish I had the Brain Tumbler here. It would allow me to explain things better."

Time has stopped. That means...I have time to search, to find a way out. I have no deadline. That especially was an immense relief. However it worked, and he was beginning to ignore the laws of nature as they applied to this place, it was working to his advantage.
The world always had another trick up its sleeve.

"I'm no engineer, but I've yet to encounter an uninteresting one." He pushes a chair so far that its back touches a table, then jumps up onto the backrest so that he is of a decent height to communicate.

"I'll contact her." He takes the paper and stashes it away, removing his hand slowly from his cape's folds as he thinks. Is it futile to hunt monsters that come and go in a day? No, probably not. The City isn't so magical as to have endless matter for endless monsters. He will be doing some good.
"Thank you. I loathe being unproductive, especially in such a besieged place."

"Good luck. If anything, joining with a group can provide a great deal of information. Perhaps even a few answers to your questions. Like I said before, I trust you, and I will provide whatever assistance I can."

"If he is as you say," he looks up, and his eyes peer into Sasha's glasses, "then I should be on guard, but not obviously. Seeing as how I live with him, my running away would signal that I know something about him. I believe I should stay until the room in Building 12 is complete. If you were in my place, what would you do?"
Now he would be edgy while sleeping. The dangerous part of Nicodemus right now didn't seem to be his manipulation, or his magic if he had any, but his species. Larger and more suited to the area, Nicodemus would have an easier time cornering him and isolating him in the room. He would be able to easily reach all the locking mechanisms, the windows, anything that would slow him down. He could cut through them, but the problem was that it would take him time should something go wrong.
He would keep watch. And of course, he would follow up on Sasha to ensure that this man was who he said he was. He wasn't initially suspicious; it was just his standard practice to fetch information on anything and anyone in a new area.
