Log;

It was a rare occasion for them to just let loose and relax. When the gang had any free time it usually ended up with a raid of some sort from the Fire Nation. Here, in the City, things were different. Weird, yes, but definitely different and Zuko, Ty Lee, and Mai didn’t necessarily make up the entire Fire Nation. At least with the free time she had off from her new job, Suki could spend some of it with Sokka. The amusement park was a great excuse to sneak away from the rest of people in the apartment. She liked them and they were nice to her, but privacy wasn’t much of an option in an apartment full of six people, a lemur, and an air bison. They almost never had it, in between Suki being in jail and Sokka doing his… Sokka things.

“Sokka, are you ready yet?” Suki called out as she put her hand on the apartment door’s knob and turned it slightly. It was already nighttime and if what the rest of the people were saying about it being a curse was true, the park wouldn’t be there much longer. “It’s already late!”

Sokka took that moment to hop into the hall on one foot, still pulling on a boot. “I’m coming! Just let me—“ Well, he finished putting on the shoe in mid-sentence. No need to finish, right? He stood up and shrugged, felt to make sure his hair seemed alright. “Good to go.”

Of course, there was the final glance around the apartment to make sure that nobody was around to decide to just randomly tag along. That? Yeah, that would be totally lame. With the all-clear in place, Sokka gestured to the door with an attempt at a charming smile on his face. “After you.”

Sokka automatically headed for the stairs. The elevator was pretty cool, what with the electricity, light-up buttons, and pulleys, but it was still a little freaky, being a closed-in metal box. Toph could get out of that kind of thing. Sokka probably couldn't. Stairs were just more comfortable. Plus, they were probably good for the legs.

Down a couple of flights and out into the street, and Sokka grabbed hold of her hand as they started down the sidewalk. He kinda' wished that he had something nice and conversational to say, but came up empty on that one. Maybe that was okay. Hopefully.

"Yeah," Sokka answered, "The weather's usually pretty good here." Having traveled here and there, City now included, he was pretty sure that he could get used to proper summers.

Great. With that one sentence done with, he was lost again. This park thing better have some interesting conversation pieces, or that was probably it for him. For now: holding hands was the choice thing to do.

Even those little houses in Kiyoshi were impressive, considering the livlihood of the Southern Water Tribe, at least before he'd gone on to see much bigger places. The buildings here, though, were a little mind-boggling if one thought too hard on it. They were probably on his list of 'Cool Things to Look Into.'

The question was a little difficult to answer in complete truth, really, but he'd just have to try for optimism. "Well, yeah. I mean... I've come back and forth and couple of times, so it's kind of hard to say. Still, I think..." Sokka pressed his lips together in thought and kind of floundered. It's not like he could bring up a proving point about getting out of her. "We'll get there. Just because. Trust me on this one."

Sokka was glad for the park being just ahead. The conversation, even apart from being non-conclusive, was angling on depressing or worrisome. "Yeah, must be," he said, breaking out a smile and a brighter tone of voice. "Dunno' about the music, though. Weird, huh?" He'd heard a little of it before, being here, and he was pretty sure he couldn't identify half of the instruments they must've used.

He was able to identify the Titanic slide, though. He'd been around for that one. He... Wasn't going to mention it. "Looks fun."

Er... What was that? Sokka had sped up his walking pace at her urging, but was compelled to stop every few seconds to stare at things. While his expression on approaching most things here was, so far, interest and curiosity, the inaugural attraction of the evening got something of a bug-eyed, nervous glare.

He would've asked if she was really sure, but she seemed confident. Asking would make him look like the wimp, for sure. It reminded him of Omashu, though, and it couldn't be worse than some things that could happen with Appa. "Sure. Let's go for it!"

"Hey," he whined just slightly, scooting into the car with an obviously lesser amount of enthusiasm. "I'm not a chicken. And if this thing comes off of the rails, it could be pretty bad."

[identity profile] and-sarcasm.livejournal.com 2008-07-18 11:06 pm (UTC)(link)
"Suki... I think people do more of a 'thud' than a 'boing' thing." Sokka let out a deep breath and sunk into the seat. Whatever, right? Falling from some weird ride to your doom wasn't really the most dignified death, but he was sure that the universe could come up with worse.

Clank. Click, click... "Oh." He sat bolt upright, looking around as if he really didn't know what was happening. "We're moving."

[identity profile] and-sarcasm.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka shrugged, slightly impeded by the safety bar. It took his brain a moment to come up with even an automatic response. "It's... Going up this incline, looks like." After a pause, expression unenthusiastic, he added, "Awfully steep, huh?"

[identity profile] and-sarcasm.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
Sokka, loathe he could be to admit it, let out an oddly high-pitched shout upon their initial fall, and few more little yelps at the twists and turns. He was just starting to realize that maybe this wasn't so bad when Suki's exclamation hit his ears. It only took him a second to realize that she was probably right. His yelps stopped, and he laughed instead.

In retrospect, the ride didn't last very long at all. They came to a sudden and near-violent stop before he could really get his head around the entertainment of it all. His assessment came out as a breathless, "Huh."

[identity profile] and-sarcasm.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
"I dunno'," Sokka said, hand on her shoulder in a vague attempt to feel a balanced. He looked around the park from where they stood, not really understanding the rides and attractions, but keeping a particular criteria in mind. Something slow would be nice.

"How about that?" Er... Concession stands are slow, right? Food's pretty harmless, either way to slice it.

[identity profile] and-sarcasm.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, nobody eating them had fallen over dead yet, so Sokka could only assume that they might just be the greatest thing to happen to fruit since pastries. Grinning, he grabbed her hand and set off for the stand. "Can't hurt to try 'em, right?"

He eyed them for a moment, once they got closer, just to make sure they looked alright. "Two, please," he ordered with enthusiasm once he'd deemed them good, once and for all, and handed some coins over to the clerk.

Two fresh... Apple-on-a-sticks were now all theirs.

[identity profile] and-sarcasm.livejournal.com 2008-07-19 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
There was a satisfying crunch as Sokka bit into the thing without giving it any more thought. "S'jus'..." Wait a minute. He chewed, swallowed, and grinned. "It's just covered in something. It's great!"
