Summary; Toph's tired of the Sugar Queen-Floozy, and Tasuki's got spare room for her to crash.

Tasuki had always wondered what it'd be like to have a little sister. No, really-- Chiriko had probably come pretty close, what with all the piggybacks that Tasuki gave him and all the babysitting he did when Chiriko lost his character, but to have an actual little sister with Tasuki's blood, a little sister he could influence and teach profanities to? That'd be pretty cool. Even if it meant adding a sister to the five he already had.

It seemed, however, that the City was willing to oblige and give him a taste of being a big sibling. And Tasuki liked the idea, more than he was willing to admit.

So he put some meat buns on the bamboo steamer, placing it over the stove and then settling down on his couch. Waiting for Toph to arrive.

...then standing up after several seconds, remember that oh wait, the girl was blind, and hurrying to try to make the place a little tidier, lest she trip on something.

Shit. The fucking mountain was moving. Like some kind of earthquake, and shit shit shit natural disasters were bound to happen sooner or later, right? Of course, given that he's lived on Mt. Reikaku all of his life, Tasuki knew exactly what to do, and calmly stood under a door frame. He wasn't too worried, since his workmanship was pretty damned good, but just to be safe--

--until he heard a voice called from outside. Seriously? Well. She did say that that... Earthbending stuff could move around huge masses of earth and rock, right?

Which also meant, of course, that if Tasuki opened the door he'd probably get a huge slab of something slammed into his face, with his luck.

"OI, OKAY, BUT STOP... HITTIN' ON MY DOOR FOR A MOMENT, WILL YA?" he shouted, making his way towards the front door and unbolting it.

If there's one thing Tasuki's good at? It's running. And fortunately, he had the sense to build a back door to his place, and--

--now he's coming out the back door, looking quickly from side to side for the little bugger who's about to knock his fucking house down.

With a little trademark growl, Tasuki runs into the place behind Toph, and realizes that he probably should check on those buns to make sure that they're still doing okay, and so that he can feed the brat before she ends up wrecking the rest of his house, somehow.

"Yeah, I'm heatin' up meat buns as we speak. I hope ya like 'em."

Fortunately, it doesn't look like they've suffered much from his brief period of inattention, and so Tasuki pulls them off the stove, opening the lid with the aid of his tessen and flipping it into the sink, before reaching in for a bun.

"Are ya sensitive t'hot things? Temperature-wise. I don't want this t'burn ya."

"Okay, okay, calm down-- I know ya can handle yerself, sheesh. Ya almost knocked my house down, after all," Tasuki griped, rolling his eyes and shaking his head slightly. "It's just that I only just took the damn thing off the stove, and ya ain't so keen on fire, from what I can remember."

He reached for her hand, pausing when he saw the dirt on it, but figured that Earthbenders were probably immune to whatever germs were in the ground anyway, and then set the meat bun in Toph's hand. Although not before fanning it slightly with the tessen first-- it was a bit hot, even for him.

"Hope ya like it. I've got a lot more, if ya need."

He took one for himself, in fact, before heading to his sofa-- he'd lugged it from the free apartment room he'd been given-- and plopping down among the pillows.

"So what's up?"

"Yeah, yeah, stop whinin'. Force of habit-- if I ever gave one of my sisters a bun without coolin' it, I'd've never heard the end of it," Tasuki replied with a snort, before reaching out to ruffle Toph's hair. "I won't do it next time, 'kay? 'Cause I'm assumin' there'll be a next time."

He took a bite of his own bun, chewing thoughtfully before joining Toph on the floor. He knew better than to ask her to sit on the couch, and he also was getting the feeling that pillows wouldn't be so welcome either.

"...mice?"

Tasuki looked around the shack inquisitively.

"What's wrong with mice?"

"I'll pet ya all I want," Tasuki snorted, doing it again for good measure-- albeit affectionately. "As for the mice, well. I mean. I don't really wanna do anythin' to 'em, 'specially if one's pregnant, but if they get t'be a nuisance I'll lure 'em out and search for holes."

He paused, tilting his head and pondering.

"So. This chick you've got issues with. She still bein' difficult?"

Not usually a fan of apologies, Tasuki simply grinned at Toph's punch-- it smarted, yeah, although it was nothing too serious, and certainly more than easy enough to shrug off. It was enough of a warning, though, and Tasuki didn't want to turn into one of his overbearing and overly teasing sisters as it was.

...which was what this Katara character kind of sounded like. So Tasuki could more than empathize, and definitely understood why Toph had decided to run away like she did. Although hopefully not permanently-- Toph sounded real fond of her friends on the whole, and to leave forever because of a skirmish wouldn't be too great.

"I'm glad ya ditched 'er for the night, then," Tasuki nodded sagely. "People like that-- I'm kinda familiar with 'em. I mean, they mean well, but it just gets so damned suffocatin' after a while, right? Like they don't trust ya t'do anythin' at all for yourself, no matter how capable ya are."

"Wait, wait," Tasuki quickly interjected, raising an eyebrow. "The Fire Lord's the guy behind all this shit, right? 'Cause the Fire Nation's been attackin' all of the other nations? Well then of course ya gotta train yer friend hard! It's the only way any of ya will get by without gettin' yerselves killed! Shit."

He shook his head, rubbing the back of his neck. Of course, if he had it his way, he'd not have Toph or her friends fighting at all. Or at least, not Toph-- he hadn't met anyone else from Toph's world yet, except for Ty Lee and Zuko, who looked significantly older than her.

Kids shouldn't have been fighting for adults. But if they did, they sure as hell could stand to be prepared.

"Has she ever tried trainin' him? It ain't easy t'train another warrior."

Tasuki watched Toph pick up after herself for a moment, and then clicked into host mode-- vaguely. "Do ya want another bun? Yer free t'take as many as ya want, y'know."

She'd probably yell at him if he tried to get her another one, right? Right. And she avoided his furniture well enough, so there probably wasn't any real reason to worry...

But his talk about this Avatarang kid or whatever was pretty interesting. Singing and dancing with the Fire Lord? Didn't like violence? Tasuki was familiar with a few of those types, himself. Chichiri was pretty damn forgiving. Miaka... wasn't really meant to be a fighter. Tasuki was pretty tempted to meet this guy for himself, actually.

"Other reasons for callin' him Twinkle Toes, huh? Wanna explain?"

"Wait, wait, hold up." Tasuki held his hands out, waving and gesticulating despite the fact that Toph couldn't see it anyway, probably. "He's a monk? I've got a monk too! Well, he's not really my monk, but ya get the idea. And he's kinda fond of peace and stuff too, but-- but he can kick some real ass."

Tasuki slumps against the arm of the couch, resting his chin in his hand. "What yer friend needs t'understand is that sometimes it takes violence t'prevent more violence, right? Else you'll get hurt, innocents'll get hurt..."

Tasuki laughed nervously-- wow, this girl was a lot more outwardly violent than anyone else he'd been friends with before. Except Nuriko, perhaps. But Nuriko was... a lot more feminine about it--never mind that he was a guy.

"That... might kinda push him away, I dunno," Tasuki shrugged. "I mean, I did that t'Tamahome, but it's not right for everyone. Come t'think of it, I kinda scorched Tama a lot too--don't think he appreciated that."
