Summary; One visit out of many wherein the crazy analyze the crazier and Clow grooms Rorschach for working with the police.

Waiting for the guard to unlock the cell gave Clow more than enough time to ponder his situation. His last conversation with Byakuya rang in his mind, and he wondered if the other unit heads knew about the Captain's designs on Rorschach - would they approve of employing a convict? ... Well, Ophelia had set a bit of a precedent in that department, hadn't she?

'If I'm to be outnumbered by criminals...' Clow didn't allow himself to finish that thought as the cage door slid open and he stepped in. Nor did he let it unnerve him when the guard locked the door behind him.

"Good morning, Rorschach," he said, mildly, and with none of the foreboding that often accompanied his recital of that name. At least, he thought he'd get started on the right foot today by using the name that he thought the murderer preferred.

"Morning," Rorschach replied. "Mr. Reed? Or are we supposed to be familiar?"

"You may call me Clow, if you'd rather not be formal." Only fair - he was tempted to call the other man Walter. He moved to take a seat on an unoccupied cot, maintaining as relaxed and pleasant a demeanor as possible. Sometimes his ability to compartmentalize and keep his emotions separate from his work - whatever that may be at the moment - amazed even him.

Mm, where to start...? "How are you today?"

"I don't like being trapped," Rorschach replied. "Especially when there is a serial killer free."

"I suppose I don't blame you," Clow answered, adopting a more serious tone. "I doubt it's any consolation, but I think we'd also rather have you on the case than as a prisoner.

"If you were free, what would you be doing about him right now?"

"Hit the streets. Witnesses somewhere. The blood is disappearing. Vampire? Doctor? Magic?" Rorschach said.

"Give me the little finger of a thug and I will find answers."

It was almost comical, but in the process of considering Rorschach's answer, the magician looked at his own pinky finger.

"You'd risk making powerful enemies in the underground?"

"Already dead. No family. No loved ones," Rorschach said. "They have nothing to threaten me with."

It was a good point - but such brashness was seldom wise.

"There are worse fates."

"Worse. Hurm," Rorschach said. "What is it you want to know today?"

"I'm already asking questions, aren't I?" Clow smiled a little bit. "But to be more direct - you're a checkers player and not a chess player, aren't you?"

"Funny. Think that I favor boldness and direct action over complicated schemes," Rorschach said. "But you're right. Schemes are easily destroyed. Like cutting a link in a chain."
