Log;

Sunday afternoon. Reeve stretched in his chair at his workbench, glancing around the deserted apartment with pleasure. He didn't have to be at the Lux for another few hours, and had nothing to do for Walter yet. In other words, free time. A precious commodity anywhere but the City, and something he'd forgotten how to enjoy when Yuffie left. He was startled to realize that he was actually looking forward to the afternoon ahead of him.

Parts and tools to build the latest Cait Sith were spread neatly over the table. He still had enough from what Yuffie had stolen for him to restart the project, which had remained untouched since the Titanic curse. Best to make it all last, though, he mused, with his personal delivery system returned home. He didn't have the money to start buying things legitimately yet, even with two paychecks coming in.

Feeling surprisingly content with the situation in general, Reeve brushed his fingers over a wide array of matte knives, screw drivers, coping saws, and finally selected a simple pair of pliers. He cut two lengths of wire from the spool, pinched the ends and began twisting with practiced hands, ending with a coiled spring that he lay on the table before him with obvious satisfaction. Once begun, half done, right?

All the others, Jadis had caught out or lured into the open. Perhaps she was gaining confidence, or perhaps she saw no other way to proceed on this, her final execution.

The first step, of course, was to persuade her target to open the door, as she much preferred to remain hidden and unknown, for now. So the witch stood on the other side of it, casting the tiniest bit of magic, and a sheen of ice began to creep beneath the door and slowly cover the floor.

Outside the door, everything was covered in ice. The floor and walls glistened like glass, reflecting light into distorted shapes.

When Reeve stepped through the door, Jadis raised her dagger and swung, bringing the pommel into the back of his head with a crack. Unlikely to kill, but she had to be sure of incapacitating him, so that when her blade was buried in his flesh, the blow would be true. Crude, yes, but one had to adapt to one's circumstances.

Perfect. Jadis smiled to herself, reaching down to grab the unconscious form by the front of his clothing and send him sprawling onto his back. Stepping close to stand over him, she brought the knife above her head a second time, then sent it plunging deep into the man's heart.

Without a word, Jadis withdrew the blade, watching the blood drip onto the floor as the ice began to fade away. By the time she was gone, the cold had retreated as well, leaving no trace except a murdered man lying in a pool of blood.

Dmitri was restless in the City, but cheerfully optimistic about his future there. There didn't seem to be half so many maniacs as, say, New York City, and nearly no superheroes--or villains, for that matter. In fact, he was even starting to enjoy himself a little. Get out, talk to people. He'd spent the day planning taking young Pearl to the zoo--

His thoughts completely derailed as he paused down the hall from the apartment he was sharing with the rather pleasant man named Reeve Tuesti. He squinted, the sight at first making absolutely no sense, and then squeaked and ran up, dipping into a crouch by the body.

"Reeve--?!"
