Log;

In the wake of the day's curse, Ianto's death, Kyle's distress and the undeniable lure of giving in to his new found mortality, Jack was feeling a bit melacholy about his place in the Universe. He'd left Kyle and Ianto to the comfort of the beach house and headed out to find solace with the Doctor.

On a whim, Jack had made a slight detour.

As a rule, he didn't drink much anymore, save for a toast to a life well lead by a friend, lover, someone he admired but since it seemed the Deities were in the mood for a tribute and well, if you're going to contemplate your place in the Universe, might as well do it with some beer right? Getting himself a keg, yes a keg easier on the environment than all those cans or bottles, Jack rolled his prize along the street to20the TARDIS.

True, he probably should have gone back home, if you're going to get drunk it's sometimes best to do it in the safety of your home base but given the nature of his thoughts, Jack felt the need to seek out the Doctor, while he knew his old friend was available. Rolling the keg about into position, Jack sighed and reached up to knock on the TARDIS door and while he waited for the Doctor to answer, he idly contemplated the logistics of getting the keg through the TARDIS's door.

The Doctor had already met the requirements for, or the demand of, the deities. He wasn't usually into giving into oppressive jailers but what they asked seemed harmless enough. At least, it was harmless to most people. Some of the children probably shouldn't partake but they were allowed to find someone to drink for them.

The Doctor would probably render his services in that instance but for now Jack was coming over to talk. He always enjoyed the conversations th at he had with Jack, it was interesting to see the man mature and deal with the immortality that he'd been given, even if the immortality gave the Doctor a cold feeling inside of him whenever he thought about it.

When he heard a knock at the door the Doctor opened it and saw Jack standing
there with a keg. He beamed a grin and waved Jack in, opening up the other door to the keg would fit.

"Jack, you're here!" he declared. "It's good to see you."

Grinning warmly, Jack gave the Doctor a jaunty salute.

"Good evening, Doctor!" He said cheerfully enough. It was hard not to be
cheerful in the Doctor's presence, even if they did have their rough patches. For the most part, all the past hurts now seemed less than the importance of the friendship and understanding they shared.

Rolling the key on into the TARDIS, Jack parked it up by the console and spun
around, taking in the interior with a cheeky grin.

"Doesn't look any the worst for wear, bless her. So, got a tap?"

Jack patted the top of the keg and started to shrug out of his RAF greatcoat.

The Doctor patted his pockets at Jack's request, searching for a moment or two before he finally produced the required tap. Not that he always had something like that ready at hand but in a situation like the currently one you never really could be too prepared.

"So have you started on this little punishment by the deities yet?" the Doctor asked.

A confused look passed his face for a moment and he scratched his head thoughtfully. "Can't make out why they would want us to drink so much."

"Nope, haven't had time," Jack said, taking the tap from the Doctor -not going to ask where it came from- and applying himself to the task of getting into the keg.

"Been too busy being mortal and all that."

The Doctor nodded in agreement. He could understand wanting to experience the human condition, although when he had done that he wasn't exactly aware that he was experiencing something different. When he used the Chameleon Arch he had believed, for all intents and purposes, that he was human.

"How is that working out for you?" he asked, tilting his head in question. "Feel like old times?"

Tap in place, Jack straightened and shrugged.

"Sort of? Was tempted for a short while to see if I could do the deed and make it stick you know? But Ianto and Kyle were having none of that sort of
nonsense," Jack grinned as he spoke, making a joke out of it now but he'd be
lying if he said he hadn't been tempted.

It was something he thought about often, in the darker moments of his life. But this wasn't meant to be one of those times and Jack quickly threw off the mood and smiled at the Time Lord.

"So, glasses, Doctor? You will be joining me, yes?"

"Not even going to enjoy a nap?" the Doctor asked. Jack's body had an over
abundance of energy, he had no need to sleep and the Doctor wondered if that was a bit bothersome at times.

"Oh, right, glasses." he said, heading out of the console room for a moment
before returning with two mugs.

"This should be interesting," he added. "Not sure I've ever been drunk as a
human."

Taking the mugs, Jack began to fill them from the tap with nice ice cold, fresh beer.

"Been awhile for myself," he agreed, turning and handing the Doctor a mug before taking up his own.

Lifting it, he smiled.

"So!" Jack said with that crooked smile of his. "Shall we get ourselves pissed and toast the fickle fancy of our Mistress Time?"
