E x p l o r a t i o n

When; March 21st, 2009
Rating; PG for now
Characters; Hiei and OPEN to ALL
Summary; Hiei is taking a look around the new place, since there isn't much else to do at the moment.
Log;
The sky seemed dark, everything looked dreary to him. The sudden appearance had drawn him off guard only for a moment, and the half breed only continued to stare at the premise in which he slowly ventured. The air was stagnant, and felt heavy to him when he breathed it. In most parts, it reminded him of the Makai, only there wasn't red sky, and forests surrounding the premise, in which each and every little thing seemed alive.

The absolute destruction of this place seemed to that of a ticking clock that would tell them the end of everything, at least from what Kurama had told him. He had found the fox first, and it seemed to be perfectly normal to see his companion. The idiot carrot head as here as well. He wasn't expecting to see the idiot, but he did anyway. He still didn't seem to believe Kuwabara's words on the fact that he HAD been here recently, a long time back, he said, along with his sister, and some other people form his world. This existence between his world and something else made some sense.

He had never distrusted Kruama's words. The fox was his closest companion after all. There wasn't much to say about the other. In the mean time, he did ponder about a lot of things.

He wanted answers, but they were brief and only allowed him some security. It didn't bother him that Kuwabara knew more than he did. It didn't matter, because the red eyed male would probably find out a lot more about this place in a few days than Kuwabara in his whole stay here, thanks to the Jagan, but things were still blurry to him, no matter how much he used it. His thoughts faintly drifted to Yukina. Was she really here? His sister, the one he would protect with his own life? If it was true, he was not pleased with the people who had brought her here, these deities as the fox had called them.

With a faint grunt from him, the boy vanished from where he was standing and moving quickly along the place, seeking out anything that would prove useful to him in the future, exploring, it seemed. He had seen most of the place with his Jagan, but that was not enough to tell him that it was all he could see. There was more. There always was

Kurama hadn't announced the arrival of his partner to anyone, not yet. Perhaps it was selfish of him not to say anything, or perhaps he simply didn't care to offend Hiei by dragging him into the City's social scene so soon. Whatever his reasoning, he wasn't about to leave the other youkai to explore the City alone. Kurama didn't hover or crowd, but that evening, after he had tended to his garden and taken care of certain financial duties, he assumed his fox form and set out in search of his companion. His thick ruff of silver fur protected him from the early spring chill as he settled into the long, easy paces of his original body. He was small enough and clever enough that with his youki masked, he might be able to sneak up on Hiei. Then again, with his partner no doubt in a state of vigilance after being removed unexpectedly from Makai, he might not.

[ooc: I have to sign off in a moment, but we can backdate something tomorrow if you'd like to.]

For Kurama, trailing Hiei without being seen was as much entertainment as it was a skill exercise. He'd honed the abilities over centuries, and it would be a shame to let that effort go to waste from stagnation in the City. Eventually, he would step forward if Hiei didn't spot him first, but for now he was content to make note of where his partner traveled, and the signs Hiei gave that he knew something was behind him, but not what or who.

Remaining concealed was more difficult amongst the buildings of the city proper. Foxes, however, are known for their adaptability, a trait that allowed them to live successfully amongst humans when other species were driven out of their territories by residential and industrial expansion. Kurama was no exception.

Still, he would only wait so long for Hiei to do something about being followed. To speed the process, the kitsune deliberately allowed Hiei the opportunity to catch the briefest glimpse of silver before disappearing again.

Kurama circled the building. Though not as swift as Hiei, he made good time. His climb to the roof was achieved in silence, and said not a word when he seated himself on the edge opposite and behind Hiei, his four tails wrapped neatly around his front paws. He dropped his concealment and allowed his youki to announce his arrival and compliance with Hiei's demand.

The youko huffed a breath through his nose, and spoke in a voice that wasn't precisely in the listener's head, but wasn't produced by his vulpine throat.

To see if you were unsuitably distracted by your new environment. He cocked his head, considering. You don't appear to have adjusted yet.

And you would insist on doing so alone. Kurama's response carried a faint note of disapproval. He might acknowledge Hiei's strength and self-sufficiency, but he would prefer his partner not expose himself to needless risks.

You don't know the City or its curses. Kurama rose and padded across the roof to Hiei. I would be rather vexed if you fell into trouble because of that.

The fox settled again, this time at Hiei's feet. He didn't look up at the currently taller youkai, instead placing his focus on the scene in front of them, apartment buildings and businesses arranged in a radial pattern around a central square.

You died here, he said, with no more emotion than if he were making simple conversation. Perhaps it wasn't you or anyone you might become, but I remember it. I don't care to see it again.

Having made his point, Kurama kept his silence as he rose to move alongside his partner and friend. He was pleased that Hiei hadn't turned him away. Had the other asked, the fox would have left, or at least created the illusion of doing so. It would take time to know precisely where he stood with Hiei now, but they'd made a start, and with that he was satisfied.
