When; April 23rd [BACKDATED]
Rating; PG - PG-13
Characters; Fai (
gracedfall) & Renji (
shedyourstripes)
Summary; After Fai returns back home, elsewhere Renji realizes his mistake.
Log;
The rain drummed heavily against the shutters. After having stolen out of bed next to Yuui he crept outside onto the porch outside to watch the rain fall. He watched torrents of rain fall and briefly he wondered what would happen if he left again. Of course, he wouldn't do this. He saw the conversations on his device when he came back and the thought of running into Mayuri out there...
Fai shifted in his spot, body heavy with fatigue but still unable to shut his mind up. Having thought all day, he was utterly confused. He first arrived here thinking he was dead, believing if he was dead Yuui could leave. Then Yuui arrived here, alive and older, and his belief that he was indeed, dead was well-cemented by his brother's first arrival.
Then he left. Of course, he had a life beyond here, Fai knew this. When he came back younger, again, having never left the tower, Fai wondered if this was some sort of cruel joke. Not only was the realization of Fei Wong's plans enough, he was told that he had been alive this entire time? If he had then how did Yuui arrive here in the first place, older? If he returned back now, Fai's body gone, would he be able to leave again? What if Fai never returned there and Yuui was left to be stuck there forever-
Fai moved to lay down on his side, continuing to watch the rain sideways on the wooden floorboards. All the thinking was giving him a headache again.

Way to screw up
again, Renji. Way to ditch out when someone needs you, or anyone. But he hadn't noticed, only been confused by the young boy's reaction, the abrupt ending of the connection. And then, only later did he find out what happened. And felt the immediate need to be punched.Instead, he checked the transmission- that last one sent, watching as Mayuri appeared and was confronted (stupid, stupid). But at the very least, it looked like he wasn't willing to put himself in the open yet. But who knew how long they had left before Fai- and of them -was a true target.
He knew why, it being the very reason he was able to follow Fai so easily when he sought too; that flickering sense of energy a beacon of it's own, even if it wasn't quite what he was familiar too, it was enough to go to him and appear. His form a blur through shunpo as he appeared in the rain, soaking wet, Zabimaru at his side- even if it wasn't necessary, he'd be vulnerable without him.
He didn't say anything, for a minute, instead simply moving to sit on the porch at his side; staring into the rain.

Silence. Fai watched him for a moment longer before he attempted a smile and failed. "Hey...Renji."

It was easier with Ichigo and Rukia and anyone else, to say the least. His tactic being to yell at them until they stopped screwing around with their 'It's my fault' and 'It's nothing'. A lot of bullshit, basically.
He sighed.
"I screwed up, didn't I."

Slowly, he shook his head. "Why do you think that?"

It didn't matter to him if Fai didn't blame him- Renji couldn't help but blame himself. Even if he didn't know why, he could have been captured- killed. He wouldn't have been able to handle it (again, not again).
"Even if I can't see why it's bad, being alive."

"No. I ran off to go to the Deities' office. I wanted to ask them a question, but I wasn't thinking. There are other ways to speak with them, I..." He trailed off for a moment, looking up into the rain. "...I suppose I just wanted to face them." Some days he just didn't understand himself. He went silent after that, even at Renji's last comment. It made his shoulders stiffen.
