Summary; After pub celebrations Rose heads back to the TARDIS for her present.

At least this year she could actually stand on her own two feet, she thought with a smile as she followed the Doctor out of the pub. Karaoke had been really amazing even if she had slaughtered a few words here and there but it had been in good fun. Now she was wondering what exactly he was going to give her. He really didn’t have to give her anything.

"So, not even a hint?" she asked hoping that she’d get at least a clue.

"Welllll, I suppose I can give you a hint," the Doctor said, offering Rose his arm as they walked. He had drank quite a bit but thanks to the beauty that was Time Lord physiology, he wasn't drunk. Tipsy, maybe. Slightly buzzed? Possibly. Drunk? Never. Well, maybe not never never but definitely right now never.

"It's black," he said.

And Rose took his arm, looping hers through his as she gave his careful words some thought. "Black?" That could be anything really. "Is it a windball?" she started off and then just laughed. "No sorry, probably not." She really did like Mickey's gift.

She bit her lip and thought some more.

"It's not sonic is it?"

"Noooo, not a sonic," he said, shaking his head before pausing. He had considered giving that to her, but decided to go with something else in the end.

"Although I've still got the old one I made you that you can have if you want. But that's sort of been regifted to you about 3 times now so I wanted something original."

"Original?" She tilted her head looking straight at him and grinning in a rather silly fashion thanks to all those creme egg shots.

Black and original. Well that still could be anything but at least it wasn't a sonic.

"I can't wait to see it. And 3 times really? That sounds like a bit of bad luck." And then she started to think that they had such luck. Bad luck really. But at least they weren't running tonight.

"Oh, I don't know about that," the Doctor said, grinning down at her. She really was quite adorable when she was tipsy. Well, she was adorable always, but even more so now.

"You keep coming back, don't you?" he asked. "I think that makes me very lucky."

"I suppose," she replied her gaze still fixed on him as they walked. But she really couldn't remember all those times. Maybe it wasn't even her. "Three times, yeah?" She held up three fingers with her other hand. And then laughed.

"Guess it's just fate that we're stuck--" She paused cutting herself off before saying something silly. "Just keep running into eachother."

"Yes, three," he said with a chuckle. He was glad to learn that Rose was not an angry or mean drunk. He had seen her drunk before in the City and she never was, but you never know.

"I'll have to remember to thank fate then," the Doctor said, smiling down at her.

"Or the City. This dimension," she added with a giggle. Everything was still so odd for her even with her experience with these sorts of places.

"They really ought to give it a better name." She just stared at him with her goofy grin in place. "I mean the City's a bit dull. So is this your human side then?" She had really seen him drink tonight and wondered if that's what Donna had meant, maybe. Not that he looked drunk at all. She couldn't really tell.

"I don't know, I sort of like the City," he said, looking around at all the buildings. "It seems like a place with no name sort of place, doesn't it?"

At the mention of his human side the Doctor twisted his face in confusions. "My human side? I don't have a human side."

"How long have you been here again?" she asked as a building caught her attention. It amazed her how normal this place looked almost like a real City except there were curses and other things. Some horrible, some nice. But still things.

Rose just snorted and then nudged him lightly with her shoulder. "Shut up. Of course you do. Donna was sort of talking about it." Though now that conversation was a little muddy in her head.

"Altogether? About a year and a half. I keep leaving and coming back though," he said. That really made Time confusing, not that he didn't have too much trouble with it, it was just another added complication.

"Donna probably thinks that because a part of me sort of... melded with her at one point that I have a human side," the Doctor said, mentally cursing Donna for talking about the clone in a public post.

"Blimey that's a long time!" she said with a chuckle. "I'm surprised how you've managed." Not that she knew how he did but it was amazing to hear that he had been stuck here that long and not get itchy. "Sort of like me then, yeah?" Not that she remembered. "Only I've been here for..." She started to count off her fingers only to just give up. "A bit."

"Ah, right. Well of course she'd think that. I still can't believe that though. A meta-thing."

"Oh look, here we are!" The Doctor declared, hoping that the presence of the TARDIS and thereby, the present, would distract her from further questions about his "human side" and Donna being a meta-crisis until he could figure out some better answers. And by answers he meant half-truths and little white lies if necessary.

Rose being as she was, giggled at the sight of the blue wooden ship. "So we are! Home sweet ship." She grinned and then started to pat her zipper pocket as if feeling for something before frowning. "Ops, forgot the key." she said unable to keep a straight face.

"Ohhh, no need for a key," the Doctor said, grinning at her. Holding out his hand, he snapped his fingers and the door to the TARDIS opened up.

"Brilliant, isn't it?"

Watching as the TARDIS doors opened Rose was amazed. He’d never done that before. "That's just--" Words were simply lost on her. Beyond brilliant really.

She pointed at the ship and then looked at him. “Full of surprises aren’t you?”

"Oh I am," he told her. "Like your present. It's a good surprise though. Come on, inside we go so you can open it up!"

The Doctor didn't wait for an agreement though and just walked her into the TARDIS, immediately feeling a sense of home as he set foot back inside.

Before she knew it she was back inside the ship. It was sort of mixed for her being back here but she grinned at him instead not seeing anything wrapped anywhere in the console room. Maybe he was hiding it.

"So, where is this amazing thing that you really shouldn't have gotten me?" she asked tilting her head in curiosity.

The Doctor went behind the console and pulled out a package, wrapped in brown paper and tied with string. A simple wrapping job but it was all he could find in the TARDIS.

"Here you go," he said, handing it to her while smiling broadly. The present really was rather brilliant and he was excited for her to open it.

Rose's gaze fell on the simple wrapped package as she took it in her hands. It wasn't small by any means but still it could be anything. She then started to open it only to gasp in surprise when she was finished. His black leather jacket. Could she really take it?

"This is..." she said starting to get speechless as she looked at him and then wrapped an arm around him in a half embrace. "Doctor, thank you, but I-I can't take this."

The Doctor frowned when she said she couldn't take the jacket. Of course she could, she just had to walk out of the TARDIS with it.

"Ohhh, sure you can," he said, giving her a small smile. "It's not like I need it anymore, I've got the Janis coat!"

"Well I..." She took some steps back and looked at the black leather jacket in her hand. Maybe she could take it after all. Tears started to well up in her eyes but she was fighting it.

"I suppose that I could," she said softly not looking at him. "If you're insisting."

Doctor saw how much the gift meant to her and was glad he had chosen that. He wanted to make sure she had something to remember him by when he left.

"I am insisting," he said, giving her a half hug back. "I want you to have it."

Rose pulled back really looking at him for a second. "Alright then, I'll take it." A small smile tugged at her lips. "Well suppose," she began looking around the TARDIS console room. She had really missed this place but it wasn't her place anymore.

"I should get going don't wanna wake the missus." She laughed lightly not meeting his eyes but rather looking down at the floor.

"Ohhhh, the TARDIS never sleeps," the Doctor said, reaching out to run a hand along the console. "Maybe she's quiet sometimes but she's always awake."
