4th of July Barbecue

→ A FEW NOTES ABOUT THIS LOG & FOURTH-WALLING
This log is taking place on Fourth Wall Day. As such, this is a fourth-wallable log, overall. Now, since some characters may wish to participate in the log and not in the Fourth Wall Day event, we are asking that you take care to note on your threads whether your character is open to fourth-walling. So the same way you would ordinarily mark your thread in a log as open or closed, simply mark it fourth-wallable or not. Fourth-wallers should, likewise, be respectful of these denotations and make sure they do not fourth-wall characters who are not marked as fourth-wallable.
Furthermore, due to the nature of Fourth-walling and mechanics (and my wanting to make this as inobtrusive and not-crazy for our fabulous mods as possible), it is necessary that you do not get out of hand. No altercations between players and characters, and nothing too insane. Fourth-wallers have already been instructed to be on their best behavior; anyone who is found to be disruptive will be escorted out by a serial killer or two.
All that having been said, please jump in, thread away, and have fun!
And be mindful that this log is highly BACKDATING FRIENDLY due to the fact that Dexter crew is going to go see fireworks IRL in a short while. ♥

When; July 4th, around sunset
Rating; PG-13 to be safe (um... R if you're offended by Deb's usual language)
Characters; Dexter crew is hosting, EVERYONE is invited
Summary; It's a fourth of July barbecue, on the beach. And curse or no curse, it's the fourth, and the party must go on regardless!
Log;

For a spur of the moment idea, the barbecue was really shaping up to be fairly respectable. So, okay, it wasn't the elite, gala event of the century, but it was a barbecue; it really wouldn't have the right feel if it were too overdone. It had to feel approachable, laid back-- and that it was. The fire in the grill was almost ready, the flames having died down and the coals emanating a pleasant, warm glow. There was one large buffet table that food was starting to be laid out on. Surrounding it were an assortment of smaller tables, with a few chairs clustered around each of them, and a variety of lounge chairs spread out closer to the waterfront. The fireworks display would take place by the shore, over the water.

As far as Deb was concerned, crowd of bizarre people invading the City or not, this was going to be perfect. No way in hell was she going to not celebrate the Fourth of July because of the City being the City. Of course, she was never great at playing hostess - probably why she didn't actually do things like this too often - so she was hovering near the buffet table, trying to keep herself busy finishing getting it set up.

open; 4th wallable;

[Dexter's busy hauling food and drinks around, setting things up. He's happy to do it--it's a lot better than having to interact with party guests the whole time. Still, he'll make an effort to be friendly. It wouldn't do to look like anything other than a nice and normal party host. And he's pretty good at acting charming when he has to be.]

OPEN TO 4TH-WALLERS TOO;

Figuring out what to wear to a barbecue was evidently more difficult than knowing what to wear to the opening night of the Metropolitan Opera. Blair Waldorf did not do barbecues, for apparent reasons such as smoke getting in her hair, smoke getting to her clothes, canned beers, overcooked meats, and casual wear. Blair had stopped dressing down ever since she opened her first Vogue magazine and sold her soul to Anna Wintour. No, really, she wears Blahniks to school on a sports day.

But, the universe had proved again and again that anything you can do, she can do better, including dressing down. So, while replaying the Humphrey mantra over and over in her head, she had picked out this outfit (http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q231/ephemericon/diane.jpg). It was genius, something that even Vanessa would wear to 4th of July --Never mind that it was still Diane von Furstenberg and Vanessa wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole.

Either way, she did not mind getting this outfit soiled, standing there near the buffet table, finding something possibly edible for humans. That was also a near-impossible task.

For once, Blair was out of her habitat in a party.

Mercy'd cleaned up a little and headed out to the barbecue to meet Robin. Which, given how much she had to stay on her toes around him, would keep her mind off other things.

Plus, he always managed to make her smile.

As promised, Robin seeks Mercy out in the crowd, already carefully balancing two plastic cups full of fruit punch in one hand with the preturnatural ease of something his age. The other hand balances a plate, loaded with food from the grill, some pasta salad and two forks. It was clear that he'd already started eating himself, as well as drinking, from the laid-back expression.

He shot her a wink when he caught up with her and held out a drink.

"This is an acceptable distraction."

Mercy took the drink from him with a thank you, sniffing to determine if there was alcohol in it, even as she smiled at him. "Glad to hear that. It seems like quite a nice gathering."

Wagging two eyebrows at Mercy, he nodded to his own drink.

"Yours is virgin. Mine isn't. And it is quite a nice gathering, and it has quite a lot of food. Now there is only to wait for the bang bang pop."

Mercy smiled at him and sipped from her drink. "Thanks again. I pretty much stopped drinking in college when I realized it made me too likely to give away secrets I shouldn't."

"Fireworks." She sighed happily. "I do enjoy them."

He normally wouldn't have gone, but they'd told him to come. So he did. There were a lot of people, even more so because of the curse, but an invitation was an invitation, wasn't it?

He arrived via his usual method of transportation; portal. He stepped out of the swirling darkness and started to look around for anyone he knew.

[OoC: Also, sorry for the godmodding, but assuming either Deb or Rudy said 'you should come' at some point, or else he would not have.]

Open, fourth-waller

Marue remembered a lot about the city from when she'd been trapped inside, to have returned suddenly was no doubt because of a curse but she'd make the best of it. For a couple hours she'd wandered around and then she read in the library until she got hungry. Once she was hungry she remembered seeing a group of people setting up for some out door event, maybe in exchange for helping clean up at the end she could settle her conscious enough to try some of the food available.

It had only been a couple minutes from her arrival when she noticed an unusual but somewhat familiar event. After thinking about it for a minute she decided she would approach the figure that came from the darkness. Only she didn't move from her spot; Marue had no idea if she was correct with her guess so she instead just gave a friendly wave from where she stood and that was that, how embarrassing.

As he looked around he saw someone standing there waving. He crossed over, assuming that it was towards him. Though, she looked familiar, and as he got closer he suddenly recognized her. "Marue?" He grinned a little. Looks like people that were here before could come and visit on this curse day. Unless- "You're here because of the curse?"

glad to see you too :D /hugs

So she'd remembered correctly, what a nice surprise. "Yes," she said and smiled. "But it's kind of nice to be here regardless." Of course she had ideas about this curse, it was such and oddity as compared to the others, but that was the City, nothing about it could really be considered normal after all.

;_; I have you on AIM, at least, but I won't be able to go on until after summer.

"So, what's been going on back in your world. That girl that you know, is it the same situation with her?" So she wasn't back here for good. Oh well. It was sorta nice seeing her again after she'd left. He wondered what that meant . . .

[identity profile] i-canread.livejournal.com 2009-07-09 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
She thought a bit before responding; "Aria and I have been exploring the outside world," and no matter how much they walked they'd probably never end up on the shores of the city, "We haven't seen any other people yet though."

[identity profile] sitaronthewater.livejournal.com 2009-07-13 09:25 pm (UTC)(link)
"Hah, that's pretty cool. What's your world like?" Because for him, exploring one world wasn't such a big deal. He was used to a few different options for worlds. He did like to explore them, though. "Really? That's weird. No one?"
