Log;

Mercy had just needed to get out of the house and away from the tension for a while. And the best way to do that was to go for a good long run. She'd shifted in her room and headed out through the coyote door Jack had kindly installed and headed for the forest. There she could run as far and as fast as she wanted. On her way back, maybe she'd poke around the City a little in this form, get used to the smells and all.

Harry was not exactly a nature lover but he did appreciate the outdoors, especially the lack of noise that you find in the City and the general tranquility of it. Well, tranquil if none of the resident monsters of the forest decided to attack you. Besides, sometimes you ran across actual, normal animals, like the coyote he spotted.

“You know, I know where you can get a good pair of ACME roller skates,” he said in the direction of the coyote but mostly to himself. Mostly to himself, because maybe the coyote was a big Warner Brothers fan. You never knew.

Mercy couldn't help but laugh at that, though it came out more of a coughing sound in this form. ACME roller skates. That was a good one. She moved a little closer to him carefully. There was something about him that smelled familiar, but she couldn't quite get a handle on it.

“Did you just laugh?” Harry asked. “Great, someone gets my jokes and it’s a coyote. I’m not sure what that says about me. Or about you.”

Harry remained relatively still and held out a hand to the animal so that it could smell him. He was glad that he didn’t bring Mouse along, the Foo dog would have either scared the coyote away or wanted to make friends with it.

Mercy sidled closer. Thomas. He smelled a bit like Thomas. Not an incubus. Human, most likely, but probably related to Thomas. She 'smiled' up at him, coming closer enough that he could pet her if he wanted. It was kind of nice in this form actually.

When the coyote was close enough, Harry scratched it behind the ears. He knew it was probably very stupid to do, considering this is a wild animal, but he had probably come in contact with 5 crazier and more deadly things since breakfast.

“Harry Dresden,” he said, feeling like he should introduce himself.

Harry. She thought Thomas had said something about a brother named Harry. She 'smiled' up at him again, but there was no way she could introduce herself to him in this form. Though... she wasn't that far from the garage. And she had a stash of clothes there.

She pulled away and trotted a few steps away, turning and clearly waiting for him to follow. Hopefully, he'd both understand and be willing to play along.

Harry was kind of sad to see the coyote trot off but when it paused and looked at him he got the message. Which was just weird, although not entirely too weird considering where they were.

“Alright,” he said, heading off after the animal. “But if you want me to join your hockey team or help you catch that roadrunner, you can forget it.”

Mercy led the way to the garage and leapt to pull the duffle bag off the shelf and behind the car. She shifted there and dressed quickly. "Hold on a sec," she called. "I'll be right out."

Harry was more and more puzzled as he followed the coyote, eventually being lead to a garage of some sort. Once the animal (which, he suspected was not really an animal) grabbed a duffle bag and trotted off to change, his suspicions were confirmed.

“Now I’m really glad that I went with the Wile E. Coyote reference and not the Coyote Ugly one,” he said. “Not that I’ve seen Coyote Ugly. Not even after losing a bet.”

"It's not a bad movie," Mercy said, stepping out from behind the car. "But the Wile E. Coyote was the thing that caught my attention. Hi, I'm Mercedes Thompson and you must be Thomas' brother."

She wore an old mechanic themed t-shirt, one with relatively few stains even, and jeans. She hadn't taken the time to put shoes on yet. "It's nice to meet you."

“Whatever he’s told you about me, it’s not true,” Harry said, stepping forward to offer his hand to the smaller woman. Of course, at 6’9” just about every woman was “the smaller woman” to Harry.

“Even the good stuff probably isn’t true.”

Mercy laughed. And at only 5'4", had to look really far up to see his face. "Then you're not his brother?" she said with a smile. "Too late. I can smell that on you."

“Alright, that part is true,” Harry admitted, smiling back at her. “And I didn’t know you could smell family relations. Good to know.”

"Everybody has a scent. Relatives smell similar," Mercy explained. "Thomas likes it that I can smell emotions. Says that means he never has to talk about *feelings* with me."

Harry couldn’t help but roll his eyes. Typical Thomas.

“Yeah, that sounds like something that Thomas would say,” he said. Of course, Thomas seemed more than happy to talk about feelings with Harry when he thought he was being needlessly depressed.

"Hey, he makes me laugh," Mercy said with a smile. "Don't knock it. There's little enough to smile about some days!"

“He makes me laugh too,” Harry admitted. “Usually it’s ‘Haha, you’re hilarious’ while I strangle him about something. But that might just be a sibling thing.”

Mercy laughed. "I can only imagine. But yeah, he's a nice guy. A real bright spot for me in this place."

Harry frowned a bit at hearing that.

“Is this place really all that bad for you?” he asked.

"So what are those three things you can't do here?" Harry asked, tilting his head a bit. He guess one was probably travel. Maybe she was a travel agent?

"The Blue Beetle!" Harry said proudly. Sure, it wasn't really blue anymore and he didn't really fit in it, but it was his, damn it.

"I humbly open my apartment for you to clean and make brownies in," Harry said. "No need to thank me, I'm a giver."

"That's not my fault," he said.

"And please take me up on my generous offer any time you want to."

"I'm sure that Thomas and I would both like that," he nodded. "And we can definitely keep you supplied with hot chocolate."

"If you're desperate enough to make brownies to show up at 3 AM then who am I to turn you away?" Harry asked, grinning back. "Although I can't be sure what mood I'll be in."

Harry's only response was to give her a wide, mischievous grin that looked something akin to that you might get from a wolf or a small child.

"Well that's good," he said. "Now I know nothing I do will scare you away."

"I see, I see," Harry said. "I'll be sure to keep that in mind."

"That would really bother him?" Harry asked. "I'll be sure to mention it."

"Of course," he told her. Harry liked Mercy, she had a good sense of humor, namely one that found him funny. "I'm his little brother, it's my right."

Harry laughed and nodded. "Younger brother then," he said.

"And I have several decades worth of missed brattiness to make up for," he explained.
