Summary; On his way to get something to eat, he unexpectedly run into his brother, and Sasuke asks him a few things.
Log;
Sasuke left his apartment just moments ago, deciding he wanted to get something to eat, after not eating much over the last few, his appetite was slowly starting to come back. He walked slowly through the snow, which still covered the ground and continued walking on his way, hoping he would find something that he felt like eating.
As he neared the Xanadu on his way, he blinked in surprise, as he saw his brother leaving from the garden. Of all the people he had to meet, it just had to be the one person he didn't want to run into, especially after what happened last time.
Itachi glanced up slightly as he felt the flare of his little brother's chakra. Eyes that, for once, weren't scarlet with the Sharingan focused on the smaller figure of his one remaining family member. With a slight shrug, he simply continued walking. Afterall, it wasn't as though Sasuke was worth paying any attention to.
Sasuke knew he should probably just continue on his way too, like his brother did, but after what happened during those curse days, but with the fact that his brother saw him. It annoyed him how the other could just ignore him like that.
"Hey. You can't just ignore me like that, you know" Sasuke scowled.
The Akatsuki paused, the chime on his hat jingling slightly as he glanced back over his shoulder at his fuming younger sibling. "And why is that?"
"Because..." Sasuke paused momentarily, quickly trying to think of a reason why, "...I didn't do anything to you during that curse day when you were younger, even though I could have. That's why"
The elder Uchiha raised an eyebrow, turning around to face his younger brother. "And you expect what from me in return? Gratitude? All that shows is how much weaker both you AND that kyuubi boy are. A true shinobi would have had no problem removing a threat from their immediate vicinity, regardless of the form that threat took." If his words were any indication, Itachi still remembered a good deal about that day.
"I don't except anything from you, I know better than that" Sasuke scoffed, "That's just something you would do, besides you weren't much of a threat as you were then, anyhow"
Itachi smirked slightly. "I am sure I was likely still a greater threat then you are right now." He cocked a head to one side. "But tell me, little brother. Did you have 'fun', the other day? Seeing me as a "helpless" little child?"
"Hn" Sasuke said apathetically, as he forced himself to try and not to let the other get to him "I suppose. I just think it's too bad you didn't stay stuck like that..."
"Stuck in that ridiculous form? So that you could exterminate me at your leisure?" He studied his brother. Sasuke was not usually something that Itachi considered worth his time or attention. But this time...the younger Uchiha actually seemed...bothered by the fact that his brother was behaving in typical fashion. One black eyebrow raised in thought, Itachi simply watched to see what amusing thing Sasuke would do next.
"Oh, like you could do to me?" Sasuke said, looking towards his brother "Oh please. I'm not like you. If you were stuck in that form, I wouldn't do something like that, it would just be better than way so you couldn't do anything"
The ponytailed man allowed the corners of his mouth to curve up slightly. "So I see. But..." He stepped closer. "Are you sure there isn't an ulterior motive, 'Sasuke-baka'?" He made sure to use the childish nickname from the other day, interested to see what sort of reaction it would get out of his brother.
Sasuke flinched, as the other stepped closer as he heard his brother using that name from the other day, but he made sure not to react to that specifically "Ulterior motives? Of course not. Why would you think something like that?"
"Because I have serious doubts that you would pass up an opportunity for your revenge, was it given to you. Or, have you forgotten why you were left alive?" He noticed Sasuke flinch, and couldn't help but grin slightly.
"And I told you I wouldn't because that's just something you would do. Are you saying you'd want me to go through with it then?" Sasuke said, curiously, "I...No. The only reason you left me alive for your own amusement, to see me suffer...unless you have another reason to add to that?"
Black eyes faded into red as he leaned his head to the side and cracked his neck slightly. "You continuously misunderstand, it seems. Did you forget what I told you, that day? 'If you want to kill me, hate me. Hate me and get stronger.' And you were doing quite well, Sasuke. Although lately it seems your hatred is thinning. Perhaps you don't want me dead as much as you claim you do"
"Yeah. I remember....but I don't believe that was your only reason" Sasuke scoffed, "Really now? I was doing well? Hn. I do hate you and I do want you dead, but then we'll just have a repeat of what you did to me a couple of week ago, won't we?"
He laughed. Uchiha Itachi actually laughed. Most anyone who happened past that knew the elder Uchiha would probably have lost control of their bladder and bowels at the sight simply because it seemed so..alien. But despite the laughter, his tone still carried a cruel note to it that belied what would have otherwise been a chilling sight. "I suppose so, considering how weak you still are."
Sasuke clenched his fist. He felt like hitting the other so much right then, but he promised, instead he just shook his head at the statement, "I am not! I will get stronger, you'll see!"
In yet another strange gesture, Itachi's hand came down to actually pat the top of Sasuke's head once. "Prove it, little brother. Get stronger, so you can kill me. Otherwise....." He narrowed his eyes. "I might kill you instead."
"Kill me...?" Sasuke made a face as the other patted him on the head,as well as what his brother said about killing him. It was probably just to mock him. "Hn. I will prove it to you, you'll see soon enough. Geez. Why couldn't you have just been normal?"
Itachi frowned. He had surmised that his younger brother was the cause of that embarassing day he'd spent enthralled by the "will of fire" that he'd been raised on. Sasuke's question only confirmed it. "Because I, unlike you and that place, am not weak."
"Hn. Really...so that was what it was all about?...So you wouldn't be weak?" Sasuke asked his brother.
Itachi smirked. "You really think so? Please. It was all just a stepping stone, anyway. What use is power if you never test it, never see the limits you can push it to? If you never validate the size of your container?"
"No, of course not. How would I know, it's not like I can read you mind, or know why you do anything" Sasuke frowned, "You...it doesn't mean they had to die because of it! Why do even think that?"
"And how to know if it was within my power without going through with it? Or did you think I killed Shisui because of some plan to acquire the mangekyo. I was merely curious if it was indeed possible. As I'm sure you're aware that it was." He shifted his cloak slightly, making sure to keep the satchel he wore underneath it concealed.
"Yeah, but still. They didn't deserve to die, none of them did, all because of the fact you were curious if you could do it?" Sasuke shook his head, "...What made you start thinking like that anyway?"
Itachi's eyes narrowed, Sharingan whirling slightly faster. "You'll understand, one day. One day when you find yourself walled in by the limits of what you are allowed to acheive."
"Hn.One day?" Sasuke sighed, "Why do you always have to sound so mysterious?"
"It's only mysterious to someone who can't comprehend it. And yes. One day you'll understand what it's like to feel your potential stifled and contained. And you'll break free of that, in your own way. As I broke free, in my own way."
"Or because I just don't know whether I should believe you or not..."Sasuke arched his eyebrow,"Broke free?"
"Of course. Or do you really think that Konoha would have allowed me to acheive the levels that I have acheived had I stayed there? Don't be naive, little brother. Besides. It's not as though they care anything for you. They only value you as a carrier of the Sharingan." He tossed his long ponytail back over his shoulder, refixing his eyes on Sasuke's.
"And how exactly do you know that for sure?" Sasuke asked the other.
A grin, followed by the slight jingling chime as he slipped his hat back onto his head. "I know because I've seen it proven. As you'll see, in time. Now, I fear I must be on my way." With a slight bow, he walked past Sasuke.
"Right..." Sasuke said, the more he seemed to talk with his brother, the more he doubted him, but even so, as much as he didn't like his brother for what he did, there were still a few things he couldn't help but wonder about. Though he guessed he would have to ask him another time, maybe seeing as Itachi just walked past him to leave.
