Summary; Expedition to the clock
Log;

Jaime supposed he was basically leading this expedition, but it was a little awkward since he was the youngest as far as he could tell and also didn't know where they were going. The Scarab wasn't being particularly helpful, either because of the city!magic or because it was angry at him for telling it very sternly not to keep any records of their trip. He was armored up, of course, so anyone who'd only seen him as a scrawny kid might have been a little surprised, now that he was winged and blue (but still scrawny).

They were gathered at the part of the Underground where there were still some (slightly sketchy) shops and no visible monsters. "Okay, everyone. We're all here, so...let's get going. Experienced fighters to the front and back, magic users around those without major powers or combat skills, and...I guess that's it unless someone has a better strategy."

[ooc: Basically, you can post with your character for anything taking place in the Underground during the trip there. Please say whether the thread is open or not. I'll post with Jaime for a few random events, and eventually when the clock is reached. Haven't heard anything from the mods about that, so I'll probably hold off posting about that until tomorrow. Other than that this is a giant free-for-all.

ETA: Have heard from mods. The deeper underground, the more/more dangerous the monsters. They can be anything beastly, so feel free to NPC stuff. Also, there will be more difficult terrain, cave-ins, caverns, etc. At the end, they will be able to see the clock but not actually come close enough to touch it.]

"Big bulky people on the front lines," was Kate's suggestion. "If we run into anything nasty while we get from point A to point B, they can take the beginnings down while the rest of us hit from the sides."

She checked the state of her weapons and twirled an arrow between her fingers before loading up her bow; best be prepared at all times in this place. Who knew what the City would throw at them, especially to the clock that had a not so hot reputation?

If it seemed like Kate was taking charge, she was. It was what Kate did best. Ask the rest of the Young Avengers. They knew how she rolled.

Kate put herself right behind the front line, because while she was more skilled that the average seventeen-year-old girl, she also knew her limits as a non-powered human. Her athleticism would only take her but so far into a gang of monsters that were probably licking their chops in preparation.

Wait a minute. Did he just ask her that? He did just ask her that.

"How would I know, Jaime?" Kate replied, her voice dropping to a whisper. Last thing they all needed was a revolt against the guy in the blue metal suit because he had no idea what to do. "You're the one who came up with this idea. I just came along because if Teddy and Billy didn't come back from this in one piece, I'd never forgive myself." That and it had been a while since they all got into trouble as a team. Good times.

Sylar headed to the front of the group immediately, figuring that he likely had all the prerequisites. He didn't bother with a weapon, there was no reason. He was at ease, pleased to be heading back down to the clock. It'd been ages, and the deities had made him forget the way, but perhaps it was long enough for him to find his way down there again. They had to have found other tortured souls to focus on.

When Jaime told people to follow him, Sylar looked back and smiled at the guy. "It's very well hidden. Sometimes they even move it." Although that didn't seem to affect his mood at all.

Clef wasn't sure it mattered who was in front or in back, since odds seemed good that everyone would scatter all over the place as soon as the first monster showed up. They'd figure that out soon enough, he was sure, so he took his place sort of near the front but where he thought he'd be out of the way of any melee fighters.

"So I take it you've done this before?" he asked Sylar, managing to look up at the man without turning his face up like a child. Not that it mattered much - by all appearances he did look like a ten-year-old boy wielding a rather large staff. He was dressed in what might pass for normal Earth clothing if it weren't for the eccentric application of earrings in both ears. You can take a person out of their world, sometimes, but you can't take that world out of the person.

A moving clock? If it was as big as he'd heard it seemed like it would be a hard thing to move. But who was he to argue when the whole damned city periodically tore itself with some new curse? Besides, the clock at Deling City had moved too. Not necessarily the same way but hey. Not really his problem, right?

"So we just wander around until we find something?"

"A few times," Sylar replied, turning around and walking backwards a few steps so he could talk to the group.

He didn't look at Clef as if he were a child- he'd been here long enough to know that the outer shell was never a good indication of the age or power of an individual. "It's not an easy trip, and you won't see much when you get there. But what you will see is fascinating."

"There are some ways that are more likely than others, I've found," he said with a bit of a smile. "Generally, down is the direction to go."

He came across a fork in their path and chose left, which was slightly steeper of the two.

"The path, I think," he replied with a shrug. "It's changed a few times since I first made it down there. I'm fairly certain they wouldn't move the mechanism itself, but who really knows when it comes to the deities? Or whoever is really in charge here?"

Sylar loved the idea of doing something proactive without the impetus of a curse as well. And maybe this group would be less bent on trying to figure out what he was trying to pull and more intent on figuring out more about the Clock. Sylar had mechanical expertise, but that definitely wasn't all that was used for this thing.

Rip - or, as she had introduced herself - Kaspar walked behind them and listened closely to all that was said. Perhaps it was risky accompanying them, but she had wanted to see the clock so much. Besides, she had tried her best to appear harmless and being only on a guided tour, no visible weapon at all.

"The path changed?" she asked, as her curiosity got the better of her. "How is that possible?" Despite her rather androgynous appearance, her voice sounded clearly female.

If Sylar had known anything more about her, he might not have smiled so widely at her. "I'm really not sure, but I'm not surprised this place is capable of it. Maybe they used magic to change the openings, maybe they drilled holes." He was fairly sure they just messed with his head, in fact, since some others seemed to be able to get there again. But he'd rather not mention that. "Either way, it changed."

His smile faded, finally, as he considered it. "The deities are immensely frustrating. After the last expedition, they destroyed our recordings. Everyone else who went gave up on trying to figure it out." He was obviously disappointed with that.

Sylar immediately stuck a hand out, palm flat and pointed towards the triffids. The one that stung Jaime flew backwards in the air, landing against the cave wall with a hard thud.

"Can I cut this open? Will that kill it?" he asked Jaime quickly. He'd never seen these things before- he didn't want to cut it, only to have it explode in spores or something terrible.

He was leaving the other two for the rest of the group to handle, curious what skills they had between them. If these triffids got too close, he'd hold them back telekinetically...and- well, if one got past him, that would emphasize the danger. It looked like they could hardly walk, anyway.

With a smile, Sylar shifter his hand horizontally and slashed the air in front of him with it, left to right. He tilted it diagonally and did the same, right to left. The triffid against the wall was neatly cut into three pieces. It flailed slightly but was soon still, and the stinger fell to the ground along with the rest of it. A piece of petal floated down on top of it. No spores, thankfully.

Sylar's smile widened to a grin as he glanced at Jaime and turned towards another one, this time with a hand glowing with blue electricity. There was a reason he'd managed this trip alone before.

First she smiled back, but only a little, since Rip took care to keep her fangs hidden. Then her expression changed with his words.
"What a nuisance." Not impressed with it, why was being frustrating their very trademark? "They don't want us to know something, hm~?"

Noticing his disappointment, she looked at him more closely. "...Everyone else, but not you." It was a curious detail to keep in mind. How did Jaime call him again? Ah, yes - Sylar.

Watching, Rip kept in the background and let the others handle it. An innocent tourist, wasn't she? So she silently took note on her companions' powers, trying to keep well away from the triffids. It wouldn't be beneficial to be forced to fight herself. Besides, the plant things were highly unlikely to bleed, anyway.

Her companions' efforts, though, were so much more interesting!

Sylar smirked, nodding in appreciation at Jaime's takedown of the second triffid. That blaster arm was impressive. "Maybe we should've gone through the laundry list before we started down."

The third triffid lurched in his direction, and Sylar held a hand out, his expression suddenly turning serious. The small bolts that had been jumping around in his hand became one large blinding bolt and completely encompassed the triffid. the monster fell twitching to the floor and caught fire, and Sylar finally pulled back the spark.
