Log;

Sakura sat next to the window of Rubedo's apartment, wrapped up snugly in a blanket she'd found in a closet, contentedly watching the snow fall. It had a mesmerizing quality to it- the very monotony of it was soothing. It was easy to let your mind rest, watching the flakes fall untroubled from the sky.

Rubedo hadn't really been leaving the apartment unless he needed to since making contact with Ziggy and MOMO. He didn't want to leave Sakura all alone, but he was also too paranoid to take her outside. It was too cold, and what if they ran into Albedo? Not. Good.

He had stepped out while she was sleeping in the morning to grab groceries before it got too bad, but hadn't been able to get much. The snow really was awful. He was currently poking around in the kitchen, wanting something to eat or drink, but not sure what... Oh. Hot chocolate. Peeerfect.

Deciding to make two cups, he carried them into the livingroom, noticing she was looking out the window again. Didn't she get bored?

Ah heck. He didn't mind. She was really so pretty, just sitting there and looking so serene against the white background outside. ....DAMNIT. He wasn't some sick lecher. He wasn't.

"Hey, want some cocoa?" She was sitting in a chair, and he wanted to sit next to her, so he just helped himself to the floor beside her, holding up a mug for her. "Careful. It's pretty hot."

Sakura hadn't heard him come in- she looked down at him sitting on the floor and smiled. "Thanks!" The brunette disentangled herself from her blanket enough to snake an arm out and take the mug from him. She sat back in the chair, and curled her fingers around the mug, glancing outside again, before looking down at the mug and taking a careful sip.

As she lowered the mug, the sleeve of her shirt fell down over her hand, and she set the mug down on the window ledge to roll it back up again. This shirt was really too big for her.

Once she'd gotten the sleeve back halfway up her forearm, she picked the mug up again, holding it between her hands, soaking up its warmth. She glanced down at Rubedo, who'd been watching her, and sank back into her chair contentedly.

Rubedo wasn't much bigger than Sakura in terms of size, but just the little bit was enough to notice when she was wearing his clothes. He also had more muscle than her, which probably made the clothes bigger.

He finally turned his gaze away from her to look down at the cocoa, blowing against it before taking a sip. The silence was nice, but most of the day they'd been silent. He was also starting to get cabin fever. The short trips into the snow hadn't helped much...

Elena was right. Once the snow stopped, he ought to take her outside. Introduce her to people. She needed to meet MOMO. He hoped they got along...

"Hey, when...the snowstorm stops, did you want to go get you some stuff? I'm sure you want girlier clothes and shampoo, right." He tried to grin.

Sakura smiled again. "It would be nice to get a few things. I don't need much. I don't want to keep having to wear your clothes. I... I mean, not that I mind, but they fit you better anyhow." She felt that had ended rather lamely, and looked down at her cocoa.

"I... don't mind, really. Until the storm stops." Worried that she might be creating the wrong idea, she looked back up from her cocoa, watching Rubedo's face.

Unfortunately, by the time Sakura was looking at him, he was gawking at her with a blush on his face. Almost as soon as she turned her gaze on him, though, he looked away and rubbed at the back of his neck. "Uhhh... Yeah, of course. They don't look bad on you! Good even. I mean, uh... You just..."

Rubedo cleared his throat awkwardly, looking anywhere but at her as he blurted out, "You look cuter in a skirt."

Sakura watched the back of Rubedo's neck redden. She set her mug down on the window ledge carefully, as though if she set it down too loudly, she might disturb the balance of the moment, and slid down off the chair onto the floor next to him, and leaned her head against his shoulder. She stole a peek at his face- he was still a bit red. She turned her face towards the ceiling, and tried to think of something to say.

He'd been so lost in his thoughts that he hadn't even heard her slide out of her chair. Feeling the light pressure against his shoulder made him quickly look over in surprise, only to look away again. This wasn't helping his blush.

Why was he acting like a kid again? Uuugh...

Still, in the silence that followed, he managed to calm down. After a minute or two passed, he set his cocoa on the floor beside him, then lifted his arm to drape around her shoulders. With a sigh, he tilted his head to rest against hers, eyes shut so he could just enjoy how simple and pleasant this felt.

He had been concerned about MOMO and Ziggy earlier, and antsy to meet them, but now all of a sudden, he could only think about how he didn't want to leave. He just wanted to let it stay like this forever.

Sakura was still trying to figure out something to say when she was surprised by Rubedo's arm around her shoulders. But his warmth was comforting, and judging by the sigh and the weight of his head against hers, Rubedo was just as content as she to remain there.

She hadn't really expected that. She'd hoped, of course, that he wouldn't mind, but he'd been so anxious since her arrival that she hadn't really thought he could relax so completely.

She turned her head so she could watch his face- he looked so peaceful there, with his eyes closed.

Rubedo just sat like that for awhile longer before sighing again and flopping back, tugging Sakura with him in result. Like this, he was able to just lay back on the carpet and hold her against his chest. He couldn't believe how soothing this felt.

"Ahhh, jeez. Like this I feel like I'm about to fall asleep..."

Sakura rested her head on his shoulder. "Mm."

"I'm...glad you're here, Rubedo."

She sat up, and smiled slightly abashedly. "I'll be back in a minute, Rubedo." The girl stood up, and still trailing her blanket, found her way over to the bathroom, and shut the door.

Rubedo blinked when she interrupted their serene moment by getting up and leaving. "Eh, do you need he--oh." She was heading for the bathroom. He was pretty sure she didn't need his help in there.

Sitting there awkwardly on the floor for a moment, he finally shook his head and picked up the barely touched mugs of cocoa to carry them into the kitchen. Standing there, he sighed and turned to face the fridge, leaning over to thunk his forehead against it. This was repeated a few more times, as if it would knock some sense into him. "Stupid, stupid, stupid..."

What was he doing? Sakura was happy he was here. He was happy to be near her...but it was making him forget his goals! He was supposed to find MOMO and Ziggy and get OUT of here. They had so much to do. They couldn't just sit around and do nothing in thie alternate dimension.

But...Sakura... He couldn't leave her. She couldn't go with him. She was DEAD.

And what about Albedo? Deep down, he knew it was best if Albedo stayed here, but he wasn't sure he could bring himself to abandon him. Plus...leave him alone with SAKURA? Never!

"....Are you all right?"

Sakura had been in the process of coming into the kitchen, and had stopped in the doorway, seeing Rubedo in mid-head-thunk.

"What's wrong?"

Hearing her voice made her jump, and Rubedo was quick to turn around, both hands held up in his defense. "Nothing! Nothing. I was just...uh... Did you still want your cocoa?"

Reaching out, he grabbed her cocoa mug and held it back out.

"S-sure." Sakura took the mug from him, sipping the now drinkable cocoa while watching him over the top of the mug. Something had happened in the time she'd taken to go to the bathroom. He'd tensed up again.

When she had finished her cocoa, Rubedo was still looking stressed. She set her mug down in the sink and put her hand on his shoulder. "I don't know what's bothering you, Rubedo, but... worrying over it all the time... it...can't be good for you."

Rubedo quickly reached up to slide his hand over hers. Hanging his head, he sighed and squeezed his eyes shut, conflict making him shudder. She was so young, still. She shouldn't worry about the things he was worrying about. But...he couldn't just keep her in the dark.

"It's just... I can't...stay here forever..."

Sakura tilted her head at him. "I'm sure you'll find a way." She wasn't quite sure what he was getting at, but it seemed he needed reassurance more than anything. That much she could give him.

Rubedo looked up sharply, then glanced away. He squeezed her hand before he pulled it off his shoulder, only to cradle it against his cheek. He looked like he just might cry as he shut his eyes and tried to keep his voice steady.

"Find a way to what? Stay here forever? Sakura, I can't! I can't just abandon all those people depending on me. But I can't abandon you, either. I... I don't know what to do..."

Sakura looked at Rubedo, concern evident in her eyes, allowing him to take whatever comfort he could from her hand.

Eyebrows furrowed, she said, "It ... must be hard, Rubedo. But... I know that ... when the time comes, you'll make the right choice."

The girl struggled with her words, trying to figure out how to say what she wanted to, failing, and falling silent.

THAT made him laugh. It was short, and bitter. "In my life I've done nothing but make bad choices, Sakura... You have too much faith in me..."

He released her hand, only to fling his arms around her and pull her close. Nuzzling against the curve of her neck, his shoulders trembled with all of his pent up frustration. "I don't want to lose you all over again. It hurt so bad...and it was fourteen years...and now you're in front of me again. I can't just let you go."

Fourteen years... it was still an idea that Sakura had trouble coming to terms with. Fourteen years since ...

Her mind wouldn't quite focus on it.

But Rubedo was clutching her as though his life depended on it, and that brought her out of her reflection. She brought her hands up to give him a loose hug back, still slightly preoccupied with the fourteen years. The fourteen years in which her father had died, and...what else had happened since... that day... she still couldn't quite focus on what had happened. She was too used to shoving it away that she couldn't bring it up to the surface.
