Log; Kirk wondered just how awkward this was going to be. Kirk at least had a little experience giving gifts for Christmas, but the undefined state of their relationship threatened to put uncomfortable pressure on the gift selection process.
Still, he was of the firm belief that if they didn't make things awkward they didn't have to be that way. If they had as little expectations as possible then things wouldn't feel pressured and they'd be alright.
That's why Kirk had picked a rather low key present with just a bit of sentimental meaning. His only worry was that Shalimar would think it was too personal and get uncomfortable with it. Still, he was looking forward to spending the time with her.
