Summary; It's time for Fuu to know what's going on regarding Umi's magic and the nightmares.

[Umi has put this off for far too long. Probably because she's spent more time dealing with accepting it than she thought it might take. Aya's unconditional support has helped, as she knew it would. But it's still been slow and difficult to swallow.

A great number of unpleasant events has lead her here, she thinks. Now it's time for Fuu to know why she's been so much in need for a time away.

Waiting by the entrance of Xanadu, she keeps an eye out for her best friend and considers a direct approach will be best. It's not the end of the world. Just something the Wind Knight should know of, if she's going to be the only Magic Knight left with magic for... who knows how long.]

[Fuu knows this is important. It's never like Umi to spend some time away like this and she masked her worry with a gentle smile when she reached the meeting place they had agreed on. Whatever this might be, she'd listen like she always had. That's what sisters are for.]

... Umi-san?

...Right here, Fuu.

[Getting up from the bench where she's been waiting, Umi goes to Fuu as soon as she sees her arrive, waving a little.]

Thanks for coming. Um. Sorry for the weird time too! Today's been busy and odd. I mean, you SAW how lunchtime went....

Oh, it's fine. Please don't worry about it. [Pause.] It seems that we've all had our fair share of oddity lately.

No kidding. Actually? That's putting it mildly. [A pity that her own fair share has been so much on the horrible side. But nevermind that. Umi can deal. It's what she's been working on for those last days.]

Let's go somewhere to have a cup of tea or whatever, shall we? Like planned.

Alright. [She nods and beckons for Umi to join her as they walk towards the direction of the nearest tea shop.] Princess Tatra might get jealous that we went to enjoy some tea.

That weirdo Princess has her own private stash of tea. And it's HUGE and exotic! We don't need to entreat her every darn time...

[Least of all NOW, that Umi plans to make this as private a conversation as it can be. She takes Fuu's arm and walks on.]

May as well get it started. Fuu... remember the curse with the angels and demons?

[She bets Fuu does. Who could actually forget that one?]

Then, I suppose she doesn't need to go to tea shops that often.

[And back to the discussion at hand:] Yes, I do.

Well... then you remember the sort of awful things I was doing.

[With Ken. With her magic. Her hold on Fuu's arm tightens a little as she draws support from her sister's presence. It's alright. Fuu will always be one to understand.]

How badly cursed I was.

I saw. [It was terrible. Everything about that curse was!] It was curse, though, Umi-san... you should never blame yourself for actions you never intended to do.

I don't! I mean, I kind of did, for a long while... I think all of us who were involved did.

[She was able to bounce back only after a long while of guilt tripping. That's what The City can do to you: no matter how you tell yourself it was just a curse, killing and torturing aren't things that slide off easily.

But Umi's there already, thanks to her dearest people's support.]

But it's not about that. This isn't about guilt anymore. It's just--

[A sigh. It's still difficult to actually say it.]

Fuu, my magic's gone.

I suppose one who isn't inclined to harm people would never get used to executing horrendous acts of torture like that. [Compliment for you, Umi.]

[But when she hears her last words, there was nothing but shock.]

But, Umi-san.... how did that happen? Were the deities involved in this?

[Horrendous. That's a good word for it. Umi winces a bit, smiling sadly. The reminder isn't about to wear off. But Fuu just brought up her hope for dealing with those scars.]

..."It'll never get easier so long as there's a measure of good in you"...

[Her smile grows warmer at the memory. Those words will always see her through anything that place forces her to do, and the consequences. More so now Fuu reinstated them.]

[But then there's the matter of reassuring Fuu and all else falls to a second plane of importance.]

...Eh? No! No, Fuu. I promise it wasn't like that. This was no trade. [She stops in her tracks when both Knights are already close to the teashop, and puts a hand on Fuu's shoulder.]

I just ran out. Stupid as that sounds. The magic's just not coming.

[A sigh, one last squeeze, and Umi's looking down, hands involuntarily curling up into fists in a way that reveals her frustration.] ...When the curse was over Ken and I woke up Underground together. I had it with me then. But after we got out of there and got some sleep... it wasn't there anymore.

[She can notice the visible signs of frustration and she knows these can only be done by her best friend. This place had made them go through so much hurt, and now this?]

How... did that come to be? Have you talked to Guru Clef about this?

I think he knows anyway. He must've felt it. And... [Umi frowns slightly. The Guru hasn't spoken to her in a while. She wonders if this is somehow related to the events. It wouldn't really be anything to be shocked about.] He warned us about it. Remember? When he first told us about our magic?

He said it could backfire on us if we misused it, and that's EXACTLY what I did.

[She remembers that part, where Guru Clef told them that, but Fuu can't help but think.]

Is there a way for us to bring it back? [Without making a trade or something?]

...I'm not sure, Fuu. [Finally at the door of the tea house, Umi opens the door for Fuu, considering the possibilities she went through just as it became obvious her magic isn't going to come back to her by the usual means: rest and sleep.]

I've tried waiting it out, but it's not working. I actually... [A pause. It's hard to say this but it feels truer each time she thinks about it.] I don't really know if it wants to come back to me.

There shouldn't be any reason for your magic to avoid you. [Carelessness and abuse don't count in Fuu's book. She enters the tea house, waiting for Umi to join her.] I'll do research about it. Maybe in Clow-san's shop, there would be an answer somewhere.

I already went through almost every book on elemental magic over there, trust me. [She owns the shop now, after all. Besides Clow's collection is friendlier to browse than that darn Library.] But I bet you'll have better luck.

[Umi follows Fuu inside, randomly picking a table at the back where they can still have privacy. After a pause she adds:] ...This doesn't change anything, you know.

It never will. [And she takes a seat.] I doubt the Umi-san I know will change just because her magic was taken away. But I'd still like to do some extensive research about it.

That's right. I don't plan to be any less help to you and the others. Even if I'm stuck like this for good there are other ways I can help protect them.

Something that's lost can't be gone forever. I'm sure there's a way somewhere.

[Umi takes a seat as well, nodding. Even if deep inside she's started harboring hateful doubts. What if it DOESN'T come back? Then... will a trade help? But she'd hate to have to resort to the deities to recover something she lost because of her abuse of it.]

[Still, she'll try her best to be optimistic. She smiles at Fuu from across the table.]

...I haven't given up hope on that! And in the meantime? I still got my sword. I've been training very hard and improving so I can still make a difference with it. [So I can still protect them.]

I will also do my best to help you train if you ever need someone. [She reaches out to hold the Water Knight's hands gently.] Things don't disappear forever, they only change form.

Change. You-- really think that might be the case here? [Umi's eyes widen as her hands squeeze Fuu's own with surprise. Lots of hope too, though she tries to keep that part quiet.] It's not gone, just... changing?

Well, I'm not closing any doors nor windows. Anything might be possible, though it's nicer to believe that your magic just changed form. [She squeezes back just for a bit of reassurance.]

That'd really be something, huh? If it was just taking a vacation to come back... different. [So it's another bit of hope. Umi will take it, even if she'll handle it with care.] I got no idea different HOW, though.

Your magic might come back as having abilities over plants or the earth. [And you'll have long brown hair and green eyes!]

...Huh. That'd be one really BIG change!

[So much, the sole idea of it makes her sit limp and ignore the waitress.] I'm just too used to it being water!

Yes, I agree! [Too busy filling you in with the ifs of magic change Fuu-style to address the waitress. Later she will.] Then, you'd be the Earth Knight and we might recruit a new Water Knight.

...Earth Knight. Funny how we never really met her, isn't it? I wonder if she even exists! It was ALWAYS just the three of us.

[A sigh. That'd be a change. If she could still have magic, only of a different kind... If water magic didn't want her anymore, but other element did... would Umi be alright with that?

You know, I... I don't think I'd ever want to be anything but the Water Knight.

Perhaps she existed in another world. It's a shame we never got the chance to meet her.

[Not even Fuu can imagine that, but hey, she's just teasing.] I couldn't imagine anyone else either. Or that you'll be wielding an element that is not water. Goodness, your hair might turn into brown.

Hey I'm NOT getting a dye job, even if I'm changing elements! IF that happens... BOY, it'd be weird. [It's to Fuu's entire credit that she can laugh at all this. It certainly feels a lot easier after talking things out.]

But yeah. I'll have faith that things will get fixed. It's the only thing I can do right now.

We've seen stranger things, though. But, I suppose Umi-san won't be Umi-san with brown hair. [It does and that's her goal: to help her friends in any way possible.]

It's the best thing we can do for now. When you have faith, the battle is already half won.
