log; in progress
When; Friday, October 7th; although date may change depending on what this Memory Lane thing is.
Rating; PG
Characters;
soulofocean and
conductyourself
Summary; Clef and Umi hang out at the Bridge of Birds. There's talk of potions, magic lessons, ... and then they run into Clow's wine stash.One of many.
Log;
Long after a person dies - usually only if it's a death, this never happens if the person simply moved away - people say they can still feel their presence in the places they used to frequent. Work places, houses, even something as random as a teacup were said to carry the quintessential essence of the deceased. Clow had already been dead, and now he was gone, but the Bridge of Birds no longer felt very Clow-like to Clef. It felt as though it was waiting, and doing so in Umi's characteristic rushing-around-pointlessly manner. Every time he swept into the shop Clef almost wanted to shout to the shelves of books, artifacts, and sundry magical things, 'No, no, no! I am not the mage you are looking for! I'm just going to drop off some things and see to it that Umi has things under control, and I am definitely not going to do anything even vaguely managerial!'
He thought maybe she should do something to make the shop more her own, as opposed to just Clow's thing that she kept running for lack of knowing what else to do. She was so busy, though, what with also helping run the Koneko. It seemed as though she should foist it off on someone else, but Clef suspected that she didn't want to let it stray too far from her grasp just in case Clow showed back up again. Still, he gave the shelves a 'don't look at me, I already have a business' kind of look as he walked in. The bell over the door chimed merrily as he swung the door open and shut it quickly behind him. It was comparatively warm in here, although not quite as warm as he would have liked near the large front window. He loosened his scarf and unbuttoned his coat with no intention of taking it off as he called to see if the proprietress was around.

She'd made a point to show up there every day since Syaoran had left, making her the only rightful owner. The air of loneliness around it sometimes overpowered the happy memories, she couldn't lie. But those were there alright. Sometimes she could swear that Mister Clow might well walk in at any moment, wearing his usual carefree smile, and inquire about the state of the sales or make some quirky comment beyond Umi's guessing powers.
...It wasn't that magician in particular who walked in this once, though. Umi's eyes rose from a random book she was about to shelve (yes, this job had partially made her a librarian, what about it) to spot Clef as he unburdened himself from his winter wear.
"Clef! Morning." She closed the book and set it aside as she greeted the Guru with a smile. "Welcome to the shop! Coming to check on things as usual?"
There was gratefulness in her voice at mentioning that. Without Clef's and Aya's management tips Umi was quite sure the shop would have long gone to seed.
