Summary; After spending 3 days attempting to escape, failing, and generally being bleh about things he discovered on the island, Aang's feeling better. And missing his friends, which would be an easy fix if he hadn't thrown his device away. Luckily, Hanna shows up to help him track it down.
Log;
Try as he might, Aang had had no luck with getting into the Spirit World. Every attempt ended in frustration and he realized that he needed to give up on it for now. He spent the first evening being grumbly, the second evening meditating by the beach, and now on the third evening he started to miss his friends. He was still upset over the whole situation with Katara but he didn't like being on bad terms with her. Besides, if they were going to get out of this mess they needed to stick together.
"Momo, remember the thing you were playing with a couple of days ago? Do you remember where it is?" As he spoke, he attempted to draw the shape of it in the air. Momo watched him, tilting his head in the process and then eventually nodded his head.
"Great! Go get it!" Aang looked hopeful as Momo took off and sat on the ground as he waited for Momo to return. When Momo finally did, he scrambled to his feet.
"Mom you got--I think that's a bar of soap. Okay, remember what I was holding when I was doing this?" He began to run in place and held onto the bar of soap. Momo's face lit up one last time before he disappeared once more.
About half an hour later, Momo returned with a new shiny. A new shiny that looked like it probably belonged to someone. Momo flew over to Aang and dropped a shoe into his hand. Aang sighed and looked up at his head.
"Thanks for trying, Momo. I think I'm going to have to search for it with you."

He was confused about why Aang had suddenly hung up on him, but he figured that the kid was having trouble getting used to the device and pushed a bad button or something.
no subject
"Hi, I think you're Hanna, right?"
no subject
He grins and waves, standing up. The puppy who is with him, Penny, barks happily and goes up to Aang, looking at him expectantly.
no subject
Aang looks like he was going to say something else, until he sees a puppy. A normal puppy. There's no combination of another critter with this dog. Aang's eyes widen and his jaw goes slack. It's rare to see such a thing!
"It's a puppy!"
Drops down onto one knee and starts to pet the puppy on the top of the head.
no subject
"That's Penny, and I think she seems to like you!"
no subject
"I like Penny too, she's pretty cute!" Sits down on the ground and scratches in between her ears. After awhile, he looks up sheepishly at Hanna.
"Hey, ah, have you seen one of those device things that everyone uses to talk lying around?"
no subject
He smiles and nods.
no subject
"I tried to have Momo find it but he didn't have any luck."
no subject
He nods and smiles, before pulling out his device and holding it out to Penny, who sniffs it.
"Penny, do you think you can try to find one of these devices? It should be on the ground here somewhere..."
She barks and goes off to take a look.
no subject
"What kind of thing is the device we use? I've never seen anything like it before! It's like a person is inside of the tiny box but they're not!"
It will probably take him some time to learn how to use the device because it's so foreign to him. He's a bit iffy on it, he'd rather go and find someone in person. But he can see how it has it's uses. It allowed him to meet a bunch of new people!
no subject
He nods and smiles. Penny arrives in a few minutes with a box in her mouth.
"I think she found it!!"
no subject
"You're great too, Momo. I bet you helped her track this down." At first Momo huffs and turns his back to Aang, but quickly becomes forgiving when Aang offers him a small snack.

Hanna laughs and gives Penny a good scratch behind the ears, and she yips.
"That is the one you lost, right? Penny's the best tracker out of all the puppies, but she gets distracted sometimes and gets other things."
no subject
He'll contact them soon but he's not sure if he's ready to talk to Katara just yet, so he welcomes any sort of legitimate distraction he comes across.
"Do you think Penny could track down some of the places we talked about and we could check them all out together?"
no subject
He shrugs. Penny just barks.
"Sure she could!! We're doing tracking practice right now, because she's in training to do some sheepherding possibly, so tracking is key. And Penny has the best nose out of all the puppies!!"
He grins and nods.
"Where dya wanna go first?

Aang really enjoyed the time he spent in school at the Fire Nation. Most people here probably don't know what the Avatar is, so he'd blend right in. Creates a ball of whirling air that gradually grows larger and he sits on top of it.

Hanna blinks and stares, before he laughs.
"Hey, you're an airbender! We had a curse where people were benders for a day once! I was an airbender too! You're doing the cool air magic unicycle thing!!"
no subject
Plus, it would have been nice to have not been the only airbender for a day. He sighs a little but doesn't let himself get too caught up in his memories of back home. Instead he thinks about the school here and all of the different things that he can do.
"Can we check the school out? The last school I went to was a lot of fun but I only got to go for a couple of days. I wonder if I can convince my friends to go too, or maybe they already go!"
no subject
Nod, nod. Hanna smiles and starts to head off.
"Sure, we can check it out! I don't think I've ever actually seen the school...I'm sort of too old for it, but it'd be neat to take a look!"
no subject
The Air Nomads based their style around defensive moves, unlike with the other bending styles, there was no finishing move for airbending.
"I don't know what year I'd be in. I mean I don't know much about this world so I'd probably be behind in history. But, I know how to read and write pretty good."
Hm, he should have Toph join him. He has a feeling she won't be too gung ho about it, but learning how to write would be a good thing.
no subject
He laughs and grins.
"Well...you're 12, right? You can read and write...you could probably get extra help for history if you feel like you'd be behind...what about math?"
no subject
"Yeah, actually, I think I'm 13 now." Holds up his fingers and starts to count them. "I only had six or so months to save the world from the Fire Lord. I kind of lost track of everything else and focused on that."
Puts those math skills to good use and nods his head. "Yeah, I'm 13 now! And I'm okay with math."
no subject
He can't help but laugh.
"You are okay with math, awesome! So, I'm sure they'll put you in the correct grade...whatever that is."
no subject
Aang wasn't sure what direction he needed to go, but he was rocking back and forth on his feet and ready to go in whatever direction Hanna pointed in. There were still a lot of things he didn't like about this place, but it was starting to look up.
no subject
"This way!"
no subject
Peeks over Hanna's shoulder, noticing the map. "Ooh, how do you do that?"
no subject
"It's one of the buttons on this thing. These things can do a lot, actually!"
