[It's hot. Really hot. There's no oases in sight, but there are scattered signs of civilization-- remnants of camps, broken armor and weapons half-buried in the sand. Just what could this place be?

Or rather, what has it been?]

[If the expedition doesn't find anything satisfactory today, they're turning back to get on the boat and go. There's There are a few patches of scorched sand, some of it so hot and forceful that it's been melted into a hard, shiny surface, like frozen water. But sharper. And glassier.

Well, that's creepy.]

[As the party hikes up a dune, something becomes visible just before them. It looks like a mirage, strange and floating and a little distorted, as if someone painted it with a spotty brush.

Closer inspection reveals that it's a door. In the middle of nowhere. Like most doors, it has two sides. The front looks like a hallway of an industrial building, while peeking through behind just shows the way back through the desert.

It could be a way back, or perhaps to somewhere else entirely. There's only one way to find out.]

[After a moment of temporal discombobulation, anyone stepping through the portal finds themselves standing in the hallway of Building 7. The familiar sights and sounds and smells of the City are back, though some of it might be monochromatic, rather than polychromatic.

Welcome back, everyone.]

[Luke looks unconvinced. He scratches at the back of his head.]

Is anyone else seeing what I'm seeing? Maybe I'm just through with this stupid desert...

[It may be creepy but Rose finds the random glass fascinating]

Well, that's not something I ever thought I'd see.

[Rose had been expecting something bigger than this.

Well, that's not true. She'd actually been expecting that the door was just an elaborate mirage that they just all happened to be sharing but once she got over that, she hadn't been expecting this]

...You have got to be kidding me.

It certainly is interesting.

[Klarth observed it closely as well. Perhaps he should take a sample home, he thought as he tried to figure out how this was possible.]

[Klarth concurred with raised brows.]

No, I'm certainly seeing it as well... A door.

[...in the middle of nowhere... great.]

[Klarth simply stared, taken by what just happened. No... this can't be... All that hard work and struggle and they come back to this!? He grasped his hat, tugging it down over his face a bit, aggravated by the situation at hand.]

[Sasuke sees the same thing, glancing in the direction suspiciously]

I'm seeing it too-- though alternatively it could just be an illusion.

[When they actually went through the door, Sasuke definitely wasn't expecting this]

That seriously led back here again? [Yeah, Sasuke is so not amused by the fact the entire trip turned out to be a complete waste of time]

Yes...although I expect it means we shouldn't spend too much time out here. Or at least serves as fair indication of what might happen if we do.

I can't agree more however...

[He pulled out a small knife and chipped at it to collect a sample, hoping it would come to use in someway.]

[He glanced at Sasuke and gave it a thoughtful nod.]

An illusion. Hm. Quite possible, considering the circumstances that there would be a door here of all places. I suppose there's only one way to find out.

[Rose watches, idly flicking her wand at the glass and blasting it so that a sample comes loose for him]

[Welp. That was way easier, feeling a little silly holding that knife of his. He weakly smiled and laughed.]

Ah, I appreciate it.

[And began to place those samples into his pouch.]

[Yuri blinks at the hallway.

Hand on hip.

Looks around.

And laughs.]

All that just to land back here, huh? Well, easier than having to sail back.

[Yuri picks up a stray rock, turning it in his hands for a bit before he aims- tossing it clean toward the door with a resounding thud.]

--unless it's normal for illusions to make noises, I think it's real.

[She shoots a faint frown at him at his laughter]

Well I'm glad someone's amused. Personally I prefer not to have my time wasted.

[She gives him a slight smile in return]

You're welcome. Somewhere like this, I suspect the quicker option is generally better.

It wasn't a complete waste- we have a better idea of what's out there. We just-- took the short way back.

It could be a trap. How do we test it?

Great. [That's all he has to contribute. He glares at the hallway around them and shakes the sand out of his hair.] I mean, we don't have to sail back, but-- seriously?

Anyone up to being the guinea pig?

[Luke takes a few steps in.]

We're... in the City? But we just came all that way—

[He's in polite company, but at this point he doesn't care.]

Damn it! We were trying to leave, not get sent back!

[While Rose can fully understand being cautious, the dithering over what to do about the door is testing her already largely-tested patience past its limits. She walks over and moves to open the door; unchecked she intends to go through first because really. It's a door. How bad can it be?]

[Still frowning]

All we really found were sea monsters. That doesn't tell us anything except that sea is dangerous, which I could have hazarded a guess at myself.

I can't agree more.

[He gave that wand a glance making certain it didn't damage it. It reminded him of Mint's and couldn't help but warmly smile to the thought.]

[Well, that was certainly one way of testing whether it was real or not. When he saw Rose walk towards it, he contemplated before following behind. He wasn't going to let a girl be the only guinea pig now.]

Think the storms threw us off course? Sent us in some kinda arch?

[No damage, but if he's attuned to such things there's a dark energy still barely lingering after the blast.]

We should probably find the others.

That's possible. Particularly given what this City is capable of; I imagine it had no intention of letting us through the barrier without ensuring it knew where we would end up.

Too good to be true.

No kidding.

Even after all this-- it makes it seem that in the end we were going in circles.

... I guess it's over.

[He sighs and hefts his pack over his shoulder.]
