Summary; Rock Lee manages to get Neji to come with him on a rescue mission! Save Tenten!

Maybe it was because they had not remembered him, or maybe it was because Gai-sensei was not here to instruct their actions, but Rock Lee felt a bit disheveled in this current situation. Of course, Shizune had told him, or rather warned him, about these curses, but it was one thing to observe his closest comrades in their distress.

He stood upon the roof of the building surveying the 'City', as it was dubbed, and immediately his bushy brows narrowed as he waited for Neji to arrive so that they could begin their self-assigned mission. To the horizon, he gazed, pensively staring as he analyzed and took all of this morning's conversations in. It pained him to hear his comrades talk as if they had never met, but from what his elder had said, it would only last these twenty-four hours.

Though if they would be able to get through these twenty-four hours would be another story.

Neji stood behind the mop-headed boy, watching him with interest. He was another shinobi of Konoha, just like himself, though he had never seen him before. But, he supposed that was warranted, since he usually never came out of the Hyuuga Estate. He would go out to accompany Hinata-sama on something if she needed it, or to run some errand for the Soke, but normally not for anything else.

"So, where is this girl you are looking for?" He folded his arms, as he began to inquire about the situation. Helping a civilian was something that shinobi should do, and also, if a fellow nin of your village needed a helping hand, it was only honorable to aid them. He had left a note for Hinata-sama, telling her where he had gone, and to wait for him. Everything was in order for him to begin this impromptu mission.

Turning towards his teammate-turned-aquaintance, Lee's smile faltered only slightly as the words `this girl` reached his ears. Was it really true that their memories as a team had disappeared within a day's passing? Though he had been skeptical at one point, he knew that Neji was not a person to jest, especially when it came to a serious matter.

"Tenten is underground." The young Chuunin settled his gaze upon the ground and flattened his lips, realizing a slight problem in their search. "But even if she is there, I am not sure where the entrance to this place is."

A bit helpless, he moved his gaze towards the Hyuuga. "Do you know where it is located, Neji?"

"I've seen a strange cave mouth that comes out of the streets." He nodded. "I saw it when I was out with Hinata-sama once. That may be what we are looking for." He looked out over the roof's edge, into the city below. He pointed out toward the center, opal eyes focused to a point in the distance.

"We were deep in the city's heart when I found it. That is where it will be." He returned his arms to their folded position. "It should not be too hard to spot once we are down there."

Craning his next forward so as to get a better view of the almost dizzying streets below, Lee gave a firm nod to his fellow shinobi and stood erect. A feeling of relief graced over him, knowing that they now had a lead.

"Then let us go! Who knows what is happening down there."

And with that, like a flash of a camera, the Lee bounded over the building's edge without a moment's hesitation.

From the top of a building several miles away, spidery veins traced out towards alabaster-white eyes that peered out over the top of a black and red cloak. A small hand with purple-painted nails reached up to lift the brim of a wide straw hat, causing a slight jingle as the motion caused the belled tassal to shift.

Like sitting ducks. How careless, Neji...

The veins on the sides of her head faded away as she smiled, before vanishing in a flash of red and black.

Neji nodded, jumping down after him.

The boy is fast. I wonder how he was trained..? Neji mused to himself as he followed behind Lee, weaving in-between buildings, and up alleyways and streets. Soon, they delved into the heart of the city. Familiar things came into view, and Neji abruptly halted.

"Lee-san! The entrance is somewhere around here..I remember this place!" he yelled this, looking around himself. "I will find it..give me a moment!" Placing his hands together in a familiar seal, he felt the sensation of veins popping out upon his temples, as his doujutsu activated.

"Byakugan!"

A frown emcompassed his features as he began to run in sync with Neji, thankful that he had been leading for the time being. His heart felt heavy and heavier still when he had heard Neji called him with unfamiliarity.

Now is not the time.

His head hammered his idea into him as he stopped within a few feet of Neji and his Byakugan. For a moment, though he didn't mean to, Lee stared with an uncomfortable feeling in the pit of his stomach. It was only for a few seconds before he turned away flattening his lips. This was only the curse, wasn't it?

"Did you find it? Are you able to locate Tenten's whereabouts?"

He was staring off into what to normal eyes would have been space. But, for him, he could see through, vision passing through normally visionless walls and buildings, to what he was looking for.

"Yes. I have found the entrance to the underground. But, I was not able to find her. The best thing would be to just go." He began to walk, slaking a hand up behind himself in a beckoning to the other boy.

"Come on, let's go."

Lee knew fully well what the Byakugan was capable of, having fallen victim to the Hyuuga's attack pattern for many years now. To Lee, Neji would has always proven himself to be a worthy rival, one that has pushed and allowed him to become a successful ninja.

"Understood!"

His sandals shuffled underneath him as the roles turned--Lee following Neji's lead this time. The boy followed in the silence until he found his thoughts to fly past his lips.

"I do hope Tenten is all right..."

Neji continued to run, finally reaching the gaping maw that lead into the dark. He stopped, turning to the other nin, looking down.

"We don't know what's down there. Stay on your guard." He nodded once at him, and began his perilous descent into the unknown below. He saw the area around himself with Byakugan, but still, had no idea what to expect. He had heard tales of a freakish creature with a huge sword down here.. which brought to mind a few different shinobi. Running into one of them would not be a good thing to do off-guard.

Chakra masked, she stepped down onto another building, following the two of them carefully. She couldn't help but feel slightly giddy at this perfect opportunity that presented itself. Lee and Neji had power, both of them. But she had more. Time spent with Akatsuki had brought that. It wouldn't be an easy fight, taking on both of them at once. But it would be worth it if she could momentarily staunch the hatred. Even only for a transient period.

Lee had nodded once again with the same fire burning in his eyes and followed suit, unaware of the potential dangers that lurked in the near-by shadows. Like Neji, he too, was ignorant of what this foreign land was capable of.

He trusted the Hyuuga's Byakugan, though, almost to the point where he would risk his life to prove it. And even though he knew Neji did not remember what they had as teammates, a Konoha shinobi would never abandon another of the village.

"Please, tell me when you have spotted her."

A voice came from farther ahead in the darkness. Two eyes were shining just a little farther ahead and began to approach the two ninja.

"What are you doing down here, may I ask? It's not exactly safe in this area."

She froze, making sure her chakra was masked, watching the proceedings with Byakugan. A frown marred her features as she formed seals, prepared to mold her chakra as needed.

They are MY prey. If you interfere, whoever you are, I will not hesitate to destroy you as well.

Neji's eyes raked over the figure in the distance, as Byakugan focused.

"We are looking for a civilian girl from our village. We heard she was in trouble down here."

"I've not seen her, but I can lead you around if you wish."

"That would be appreciated, sir." If he was at all wary, Lee did not show it. Instead, he followed beside Neji, brows knotted like a bow. "She wears her hair in two buns and is only slightly shorter than the two of us."

He tried to keep his voice in check, trying to keep his composure in line, but it would not be as simple as he had first anticipated.

"We are in your hands."

"Let us go, then."

He began to lead them into the depths.

"On your guard, humans."
