When; Yesterday afternoon
Rating; G
Characters; Sora and Roxas
Summary; Sora and Roxas hide to escape the frills.
Log;

Sora adored Kairi. He really did! But there were times when she made him panic with threats of lace, lipstick and petal strewn bed sheets. Was it so hard to understand that he didn't -want- to wear a dress? Scratch that. She seemed to find his embarrassment as entertaining as she did carrying out her threats.

Well... not this time!

"Shhh~" Pressing a finger against Roxas' lips, he pulled the both of them into the room's largest closet, blanket clutched in his free hand as he slammed the doors shut. The small space was blanketed in darkness. "There! She won't be able to find us now! Pink and peach dresses..." Flomping down next to Roxas he pulled the blanket over their heads, grinning in the dark. "We're safe."

He stared blankly at Sora when he was silenced, couldn’t formulate a coherent question as to exactly /why/ they were hiding in the /closet/ when they had just locked the door. He made a small grunt when they shuffled to make room and apply comfort for the both of them in the enclosed space, blinked slowly when a blanket was draped over them, encasing them in double layers of darkness.

Roxas put a hand to his eyes briefly, amused and tired, and nudged Sora softly with his elbow. “Does this help?”

"Yeah... you don't know Kairi like I do! She's real dedicated when she puts her mind to something." Roxas' elbow dug right into his side, a ticklish sensation, and Sora squirmed as he began to laugh under his breath. "Stop that it- OW." Attempting to move away had only resulted in his head slamming against the closet wall. It was tighter in here than he had expected.

"Man..." Shifting against Roxas' side he began to fish into his pockets, holding his hand out between them to reveal several pieces of chocolate. He rested his head on the other boy's shoulder and began to peel away the foil wrapping. "Just an hour at most. Unless you want frills."

He startled when the low thump sounded the walls of the closet, made him stiffen before Sora began to fidget, forcing Roxas to move as well to make room. A compromise was easily reached--this would be the moment in time Roxas that he'd probably admit to enjoying Sora's (and therefore his) smaller stature.

It was almost instinct that he should shy away from contact, but he didn't, instead craned his head in Sora's direction, ended up resting his cheek on top of the brown mass of hair. It tickled his nose, made him blink, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Roxas released a slow exhale.

At the mention of frills, any protest died in his throat. "... an hour won't be long. Right?" He peered at the chocolate over Sora's hair, quirked his lips into a small smile. "When did you get those?"

"If it starts getting too hot we can find somewhere else to hide?" Sora could feel the gentle press of
Roxas' cheek on the top of his head, unsettling several spikes to fall into his face and with every slow breath the other boy took the strands began to tickle his skin. Like perfect puzzle pieces they seemed to fit together.

"And I think it's Demyx's? There was a bunch on the dresser earlier." Too comfortable to move, Sora popped the first piece of chocolate into his mouth, handing another to Roxas as the candy began to melt in his mouth. In the silence of their small sanctuary a question began to eat at him. "Hey. Roxas? Do you ever plan on leaving this place?"

"I don't emit body heat." It was but another quirk about being a Nobody; it was another strange advantage of being only partially-human. He only gave a moment's thought on it, didn't bother to dive deeper into the emptiness that no longer seemed to enjoy gnawing at his insides. Perhaps it couldn't.

Roxas briefly turned his head away to sneeze, and automatically returned to their established position.

He worked his other, slightly cramped, arm towards the chocolate. Roxas had been half-way done with chewing down his piece of candy when Sora spoke again, made him swallow accidentally. "... I don't know. I'm not sure if I'd exist beyond this city."

And he wanted to stay like this--in perfect co-existence, side-by-side, alive, breathing--and so he found himself curling towards Sora a little more, eyes drifting half-way down.

"Oh." Sora allowed his eyes to slip shut, unable to find words in response. It was easy to forget that they were separate pieces of a whole. In fact, aside from startling similar irises, height and body structure; their personalities were polar opposites.

Did he really need Roxas to be complete? Perhaps he'd gain more strength if they once again molded into one... but if more power meant the other boy would disappear, then he wanted nothing to do with it.

From the short time they had spent in this city, Roxas had become his friend, and friendship was one thing Sora held above all else. Even if Roxas claimed he didn't emit body heat, there was still warmth that emanated between them, stirring a sort of nostalgic pain in his chest.

"You're not going to disappear." Shifting, Sora lifted his chin, gaze following the shadowy contours of the other boy's face in the dark before finally pressing their foreheads together. Roxas was his Nobody, his fault, the result of his sacrifice for Kairi. If anyone was to blame it was himself. "I won't let you."

Roxas breathed in without needing to, breathed out because Sora did, gazed quietly, completely still, at his Somebody. Their contact was alien, familiar, and completely natural. His lips curled into another small smile, and he nudged at Sora's nose with his own. "Thanks, Sora."

There was nothing to say beyond that, because words were ill-suited for things like this. Roxas wasn't sure if the emotion was his or the resonating echo of Sora's, didn't care. This was nice. He lowered his head slightly then, eyes downcast as his expression changed into one of subdued happiness.

"No problem. You look out for me, I look out for you. It's only fair, right?" As a soft tumble of laughter escaped from his lips, Sora butted their heads together, a playfully gentle movement. For a moment he kept their faces close. Past skin, muscle and bone perhaps they shared the same spirit. He couldn't be certain...

But there was one thing he was sure of.

Settling back down to lean against Roxas, shoulder to shoulder, he picked up the other boy's hand and pressed it against his chest. "Do you feel that?" His heart was a slow, steady beat against Roxas' palm. "You -do- have a heart. I'm just keeping it safe for you." Resting his head once again on his friend's shoulder he couldn't help but grin, a flash of white in the dark "Okay? So quit worrying."

It was such a weird feeling, the heart’s rhythmic beat; Roxas felt himself lean in closer towards Sora when the other boy settled by his shoulder again. Reclaiming their original position, Roxas pulled his hand away, let it fall comfortably to his side. There wasn’t anything to say, so he instead closed his eyes, basking in Sora’s scent and the moment’s atmosphere. His eyes closed in quiet slumber, head rested comfortably within the brown locks of hair.
